Why is no one talking about this?

Manchester terror attack, London terror attack, general election, Grenfell Tower fire... all hotly debated on my FB.

No one I repeat NO ONE NOT OBE PERSON has mentioned Finsbury Park terror attack on my FB.

Is this accepted racism? Do they not care about this because the victims are Muslim? Or, dare I say it, brown?

Can't believe the indifference!!!!

Leanback · 20/06/2017 23:24

My twitter timeline is full of it but I tend to follow people big on political activism/ social injustice there.

Facebook is pretty quiet apart from the odd shared post. Nobody is adding stickers to their profile pictures like they did with Manchester/ borough markert attack. I don't know if this is because of racism, people being tired of terror over the last weeks or if it's because the death toll is not very high. Who know as

notthebackdoordear · 20/06/2017 23:24

I'm talking about terrorism as opposed to any type of crime.

OP posts:
ohfourfoxache · 20/06/2017 23:24

Bloody hell Titty Shock

That is absolutely fucking disgraceful Angry

(I saw that as a white CofE female btw)

NoLoveofMine · 20/06/2017 23:25

notthebackdoordear Indeed but you're from the area. I'm from London and was the only one of my friends who even knew about it. To me that's a horrendous crime, a young woman murdered in a misogynist hate crime as far as I'm concerned, purely for being female, yet so little coverage.

waitforitfdear · 20/06/2017 23:25

Midlands here and on my FB!

Please don't post to help division. Not saying you are.

Let's stay together and if it's not on your FB op post it

PoppyTree · 20/06/2017 23:25

I do get rather baffled and bemused by people who seem so incensed by the behaviour of their facebook 'friends' yet continue to have them on there as friends. Weird.

NoLoveofMine · 20/06/2017 23:26

But you mentioned the Grenfell fire so not only terrorism.

Anyway I think the scale of violence against women and girls is far greater than the threat of terrorism.

Vinorosso74 · 20/06/2017 23:28

Funny of the first people to post about the Manchester and London Bridge attacks only one posted about Finsbury Park. Is it less people or because the targets were Muslim? Hmmm.
It's literally up the road from me so obviously locally it's been discussed a lot

GladAllOver · 20/06/2017 23:28

As said above, perhaps you should get your news from the proper sources instead of what is posted on Facebook.

Al the main news channels - press, radio, TV - have covered this terror attack just as seriously as the previous ones.

If you trust anything posted on FB as real news then you are seriously misguided.

notthebackdoordear · 20/06/2017 23:30

Not getting news from FB. Am noticing a distinct lack of posts about the incident.

The two are not related IMO

OP posts:
SorrelSoup · 20/06/2017 23:30

I think a lot of people don't want to give him any attention. People don't want to give him any publicity.

Malfoyy · 20/06/2017 23:31

It's been all over my FB too. West Midlands with lots of friends in SW.

Possibly not mentioned so much due to lower body count maybe. I don't know. I'm appalled.

mothertruck3r · 20/06/2017 23:36

Nobody has mentioned the attempted assassination of an American politician either, presumably because he is a white Republican? Haven't seen anything on Facebook etc.

Slimthistime · 20/06/2017 23:36

London here, was all over my Twitter timeline when I woke up.

Italiangreyhound · 20/06/2017 23:41

notthebackdoordear "I'm talking about terrorism as opposed to any type of crime."

What is different about terrorism? How would you define terrorism?

The murder and rape and attacks on women because they are women are hate crimes, yet are not usually recognized as such.

Once crimes are recognized as targeting a specific set of people I think it makes it easier to detect and prosecute etc. (I am not a police officer or legal person so someone else may correct me!)

What I think is good about reporting now is that the ordinarily people are centered, the ordinary heroes who help out and step in. I am old enough to remember when 'Have-a-go-hero' was used and I think sometimes was used in a not so kind way.

But now people stepping in and helping is welcomed and many stories of tragedies show how ordinary people of all backgrounds are helping each other.

notthebackdoordear · 20/06/2017 23:42

Yes there are no hearts for Finsbury or profile picture filters etc.. IMHO if this had been a Muslim injuring Christians coming out of Church on Easter Sunday there would have been a bigger reaction.

OP posts:
ohfourfoxache · 20/06/2017 23:42

I did wonder that Mother, but then I wondered if it was because there has been so much happening in the UK/Europe in the last few weeks that anything in the wider world is too much to take in as well

WarriorsDance · 20/06/2017 23:43

@Titty

Did you see that the son of the van hire company has been arrested for making offensive comments on social media? Assuming it's proven it just goes to show how much hatred there is towards Muslims atm Sad

"Richard Evans allegedly posted: "It's a shame they don't hire out steam rollers or tanks could have done a tidy job then."

PigletJohn · 20/06/2017 23:43

Facebook "learns" your interests from the sites you look at and those your FBFriends use.

I got this one from an ant-Brexit site this morning:

Why is no one talking about this?
PigletJohn · 20/06/2017 23:45

And this one from a political site

Why is no one talking about this?
NoLoveofMine · 20/06/2017 23:45

The murder and rape and attacks on women because they are women are hate crimes, yet are not usually recognized as such.

Absolutely Italian yet the vast majority pass off with scarcely a mention. For example this recent horrific murder of a young woman on her way home from college won't even be known about by the majority of the country.

SheSaidHeSaid · 20/06/2017 23:48

I've had a lot of posts on my fbk about finsbury park though there hasn't been the same kind of reaction as the other attacks or catastrophes that killed multiple people. One innocent life lost is horrendous but unfortunately it doesn't always have the same kind of outpouring of grief that multiple losses do.

Atenco · 20/06/2017 23:49

I've had people saying he must have MH problems, but who ever says that about terrorists with Muslim names?

notthebackdoordear · 20/06/2017 23:50

Atenco precisely

OP posts:
JunefromAccounts · 20/06/2017 23:50

You lot are odd. I thought Facebook was for keeping in contact with friends and sharing your holiday photos. Not virtue signalling whenever there's been an atrocity.

Agree with pp how shocking there has been so little MSM coverage of the young student who was murdered.
