To be really annoyed about people complaining about the weather?

SharkiraSharkira · 20/06/2017 20:29

I work in a kitchen, which is a hot environment generally but is especially hot with the current weather so I do get it.

However, I am getting SO sick of all my collegues moaning CONSTANTLY about the weather. Yes, I know, its hot. I got the memo. I used my eyes and looked outside. I can also feel that it is hot. It won't get any cooler if you whinge about it for 8hrs straight. Just shut up already!

To be fair, it was 35 degrees in there today and we were all dripping with sweat, and that was with the extractor fans/air con etc going so that's as good as its going to get. I know it isn't comfortable but fgs just deal with it or get a different job, I don't think I can cope with another 3 months of the whinging about it being too hot I'm secretly quite enjoying all the heat as we very rarely get any in our part of the country, its nice to have a real summer for a change!

Aibu?? Or just a heartless bitch? Grin

YANBU, people complain whether it's hot, cold or somewhere in between!

msrisotto · 20/06/2017 20:40

YANBU!!! Poor Australian poster is being flamed on a thread for belittling the 'plight' of us brits but she's totally right. This is nothing in the grand scheme of things and i am bewildered that people are complaining so much, as if it's a struggle to cope?!?! I'm happy though, never too hot me Grin

LilithTheKitty · 20/06/2017 20:42

YANBU. The whingers have their cold and miserable weather 50 weeks of the year. Being cold hurts me! I still don't whine about it all the time. Let me enjoy being comfortable for once Grin

toffeeboffin · 20/06/2017 20:44

Folk moan just for the sake of it.

Eolian · 20/06/2017 20:45

YANBU. People happily spend loads of money on booking holidays in hot countries so they can bake themselves in the sun, but when it gets a bit hot here it's suddenly appalling and they can't cope with it. I'm not even very keen on hot weather (25 is plenty warm enough for me), but a week or so per year of high temperatures is hardly too much to cope with.

DanyellasDonkey · 20/06/2017 20:46

Would love to have hot weather to complain about - 14 degrees here with prospect of rain tomorrow. Hate watching the forecast and seeing that it's at least double that at the other end of the country Sad

fluffandsnuff · 20/06/2017 20:47

You do realise you're moaning about people moaning right?

I'm very pregnant btw so I really am struggling. My DS's room was 29c at bedtime tonight. I get your point- we should try and see the bright side- but just now I am hot and miffed!

Foniks · 20/06/2017 20:52

It's annoying, but this type of thread moaning about moaners has come up about a billion times the last few days and is just as annoying tbh.

Helendee · 20/06/2017 20:54

You wouldn't want to be with me then; I detest hot weather with every cell in my body. I feel ill in this weather and actually have some kind of SAD as I get depressed with it too. I shall complain loudly until it breaks. Wink

lalaloopyhead · 20/06/2017 20:56

Yabu. We're British, it's what we do.

Lonelymummyof1 · 20/06/2017 20:56

I am complaining.
It nearly took my dd life on saturday n now were in a very hot cubicle unable to leave until its less than 30 degrees.

MissDuke · 20/06/2017 20:59

I don't mind if people complain but I bloody love it! I love nothing more than taking myself outside with a book and chilling for half an hour on my days off and then pottering around the garden. Absolute bliss!

Your work does actually sound like it could be over the max temp people are meant to work in, does it still apply to kitchens? I don't think I could stick that tbh. My work is usually around 25-28 degrees and I find that tough enough at times.

Iamastonished · 20/06/2017 21:00

It's been 20 degrees here today, but very cloudy. I bet most of the complainers live in London or the home counties, have horrible commutes and work in offices with no aircon.

I live in Yorkshire, have a car with aircon and work in an office with aircon, so the hot weather doesn't bother me as much.

Although I sweated buckets yesterday and Sunday it didn't make me feel ill or uncomfortable. I manage to cope with the heat quite easily.

Scrumpernickel · 20/06/2017 21:01

Brexit means that British conversations about the weather will increase by 2000% next year. So look on this as the calm before the storm (to use a weather related metaphor).

ForalltheSaints · 20/06/2017 21:04

It is as British as cricket, warm beer and a love of steam trains to complain about weather, whatever it is.

MissionItsPossible · 20/06/2017 21:05

I could not cope in a hot kitchen but YANBU about people moaning about the weather even though I moan too lol when it's hot because I bake and sweat so easily, even in Winter!

YABU about your colleagues however, 35 degrees in a kitchen is not enjoying the summer warmth and heat, that is very very hot especially in, I presume, a uniform to be in 8 hours a day. Hats off to you all I couldn't last 5 minutes

skinnymalinkmalojin · 20/06/2017 21:18

I find that when it's cold in a kitchen, it's more bearable. You're moving around and the heat from the grill/ovens/gas soon heats you up. I'll even start off the day with a second layer under my whites, if it's really cold. I keep my 'it's hot' moaning to myself but it bloody well is!!! The heat drains you and everyone is noticeably more cranky and lethargic. I love my job but hate it in the Summer. (Gotta love the walk in freezer though😆)

affectionincoldclimate · 20/06/2017 22:17

YABU.
Talking about weather is a national pastime Grin

Lana1234 · 20/06/2017 22:27

I'm one of those annoying moaning people atm, I've started to annoy myself with how much I'm moaning about it though haha Grin I am 31 weeks preg though so that's my excuse Wink

Rawhh · 20/06/2017 22:30

TBH 35 degrees in a kitchen is rookie temps. You can't start moaning until it hits 40.

But YANBU it seems that it is all people can talk about at the moment. It does get very repetitive.

OrangeFluff · 20/06/2017 22:41

YABU!
I worked in a kitchen for years, wearing full whites, apron and hat. I know how bad it is! Every single part of your body sweats, you feel angry and exhausted and it used to make me ill with heat stroke.

We didn't have air con, just the extractor fans, so the temperature went way higher than 35 degrees during summer.

There is no maximum legal temperature for working conditions, I think there is a minimum though.

It is one of the main reasons why I changed jobs earlier this year. Now the hot weather is great, but I used to really dread it (and moan!).

pieceofpurplesky · 20/06/2017 22:53

I have at least 30 people moaning every hour! Kids. In my classroom. Today it reached 32 - my room is very old school with windows around two sides - those huge ceiling high ones that only open a bit.
Filled with kids it was awful. We have had faintest and vomiters today because of the heat. I love it if in my garden with a book and a pimms

Iamastonished · 20/06/2017 23:18

Where is it still hot today?

user1480459555 · 21/06/2017 16:27

I am not moaning about it because we get so little decent weather in this country.

It's ok for me though as I don't work so if I want to sit in front of a fan all day drinking iced drinks I can. When I worked though I hated it and I have never had to work anywhere as hot as a kitchen.

My body just does not seem able to regulate heat so I go bright red, my heart beats faster and I sweat buckets (not an attractive sight).

I could never ever work in a kitchen. In this weather I don't even cook so we have salads or DH cooks!

Screwinthetuna · 21/06/2017 16:30

English people sure do love a good old moan about the weather.
