To be considering leaving my washing outside all night??

Just got in from work and have a busy day tomorrow. Aibu to consider doing a couple of loads of laundry this evening then hanging them out to dry overnight and either bring them in tomorrow morning if they are dry or after work if they aren't?
My garden is fully enclosed and there are no rumours of underwear thieves around (wouldn't want my big granny pants anyway!!).
I honestly don't know if this is a wrong thing to do or not after reading something on here about laundry getting 'the dark' (and not really knowing what that is)??

I do this all the time. My clothes have not got "the dark" (whatever that is).

Crikeyblimey · 19/06/2017 18:19

Noooo! Getting 'dusked on' is reasonably safe but beware the dark.

StillDrivingMeBonkers · 19/06/2017 18:20

oooh the dark will get them.

harderandharder2breathe · 19/06/2017 18:20

But it'll get darked on oh the horror!

Anniegetyourgun · 19/06/2017 18:20

It was a joke at the expense of someone's mum or gran, or possibly partner, who had a huge inexplicable aversion to leaving clothes on the line overnight. "Getting darked on" is destined to be one of those classic lines that people quote to prove they're regulars, I reckon.

BlackeyedSusan · 19/06/2017 18:20

you are brave. darked on washing and spider willies..

Bobbins43 · 19/06/2017 18:25

Do iiiiiiiiiit. EMBRACE THE DARK

elephantoverthehill · 19/06/2017 18:27

I did it last night Wink.

JonSnowIsMyKing · 19/06/2017 18:30

But what about the spider willies? Shock

2anddone · 19/06/2017 18:31

I hadn't even considered spider willies Shock do spiders even have willies?? Confused

fruitbat2008 · 19/06/2017 18:31

I did it last night too and my washing survived Grin

FanaticalFox · 19/06/2017 18:31

But the adders will sliver their bums all over it Shock

x2boys · 19/06/2017 18:33

i left the kids uniforms out last night i washed them late andd there was no way i was drying them in the morning they smelt lovely too.

MatildaTheCat · 19/06/2017 18:34

You could but you will have to reward it to get rid of the dark.

I'm old and have never heard of any reason to bring in the washing other than rain or knicker thieves.

EatDessertFirst · 19/06/2017 18:35

I'm doing this tonight. I haven't told my mum as she will clutch her pearls and hiss 'but what will the neighbours think???'

Do it! Be a rebel. Embrace the Dark Grin

MatildaTheCat · 19/06/2017 18:35

Re wash. Not reward. That would be even odder than darking. Grin

MsPassepartout · 19/06/2017 18:36

I do this all the time. Nothing terrible has happened yet.

As for spider willies - I put some washing out this morning, took it in this afternoon, and I had to shake several spiders off it. Exclusive daytime drying is no guarantee against spiders and their willies.

2anddone · 19/06/2017 18:38

I was then wondering how you would reward your washing! I could never tell my mum if I do it she is a major pearl clutched Hmm

MimsyFluff · 19/06/2017 18:47

Yes according to Wikipedia if it gets darked on you have to bribe the dark away by singing whilst banging sticks together it also scares away lions Grin

IntoTheBeyond · 19/06/2017 18:49

My washing got darked on the other night.

t'was lush to start the day with a clean, dry, aired load of washing. I'm a convert

elephantoverthehill · 19/06/2017 18:49

As it is almost the longest day, I think the darkening effect is minimised.

JustCallMeKate · 19/06/2017 18:51

Having been on the other darked on/spider willies threads I have become a convert to darked on/dragged spider willies washing.

teaandakitkat · 19/06/2017 19:06

Im just about to hang mine out now, I didn't get a chance today either. And it will probably stay out till tomorrow afternoon because I won't have time to bring it in and fold it before then.
I have no fear or dark or spiders in my laundry. It doesn't even get properly dark right now anyway.

UnlikelyRunner · 19/06/2017 19:14

I've left my washing out overnight every night for the last week or two. I live on a street of curtain twitchers; we only moved here recently and we are 'lowering the tone' nicely. Do it!

UnaOfStormhold · 19/06/2017 19:14

I would be cautious in spring or autumn because you will get dew on the clothes as it cools down at night, but in hot weather that's not a problem.
