...to think house viewer was taking the piss - literally

Our house is on the market and we had a viewing today. They arrived 15 mins late, the agent met them at the door. The door to the kitchen was half open and my DCs and I were sat in the adjoining family room (we normally go out for viewings but this one had moved it twice, it was 430 and I couldn't be arsed going out again. I heard them come in, it went quiet then suddenly the sound of the downstairs loo flushing! Then the tap going.

Am I being picky expecting a stranger in my home to ask to use the loo?

Doesn't mean they actually used the loo. It's sensible when viewing a property to flush the loo, run the tap/shower etc to ensure that there are no issues with water pressure etc.

00100001 · 03/06/2017 18:33

Yep. I flush loos, turn on every tap, light and socket, open every door, drawer and window!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 03/06/2017 18:34

I would find it weird if they used the loo, yes.

I wouldn't have thought about checking the water pressure so I might consider that when I'm viewing the next in an endless stream house.

sonjadog · 03/06/2017 18:36

Yes, I check the water too.

Wolfiefan · 03/06/2017 18:36

Maybe they asked the agent?

Bunnyfuller · 03/06/2017 18:37

We have 4 loos. She only flushed in that one.

PickAChew · 03/06/2017 18:38

Heck, yeah, after so long living up on this hill, I'm definitely checking water pressure, next time.

And listening out for weird plumbing noises!

Trifleorbust · 03/06/2017 18:38

I always check water pressure. Flushing one toilet is enough.

PantPlot · 03/06/2017 18:40

They're not going to check all four Grin

I think you're being precious. They might not have even known you were in.

BarbarianMum · 03/06/2017 18:44

I would always flush the loo/run the tap when viewing a property. And i wouldnt ask, either.

Paperdolly · 03/06/2017 18:45

They may have travelled some distance for the viewing?

VladmirsPoutine · 03/06/2017 18:46

Yabu. It's not an issue at all.

sonjadog · 03/06/2017 18:47

Even if she did have a pee, does it really matter?

BackforGood · 03/06/2017 18:48

You might want to look up the meaning of the word 'literally' - I was agog at your title.

ElleMcElle · 03/06/2017 18:49

We once came home after a viewing on our flat to discover that someone (person viewing? estate agent?) had taken a rather fragrant dump in our toilet. They did not put in an offer.

Maudlinmaud · 03/06/2017 18:50

I don't see the problem. Would you really begrudge someone using your loo.

Ravenblack · 03/06/2017 18:50

Yep YABU. Little bit cheeky, if she didn't ask, but I would have just laughed. Wouldn't have bothered me.

Bunnyfuller · 03/06/2017 18:57

I don't begrudge. But I would ask. Regardless if I'd driven a long way.

OP posts:
Trifleorbust · 03/06/2017 18:58

I would always ask if I wanted to use the toilet. Basic manners.

A house is the single most expensive purchase you will ever make.

You think she shouldn't even flush the toilet?

Veterinari · 03/06/2017 19:03

THey were likely checking water pressure. Even if they used the loo, they prob asked the agent. Even if neither of the above. Meh! Is it really an issue?
