Sunbathing in a bikini in the garden. Is it indecent?

user1495366815 · 26/05/2017 13:42

Once it's genuinely hot I always get my bikini on and lie on my sun lounger getting a tan.

I wear a bikini top and shorts.

Would you consider this okay? Or a bit inappropriate for an overlooked back garden?

I'm never going to stop doing it though. It's not every day we have sun in the UK. Grin

There'll be a thread on here next saying "AIBU to smoke in my back garden" and everyone will be chipping in with "YABU, don't you know you can get lung cancer? "

Deathraystare · 26/05/2017 15:07

I don't see what the problem would be, personally. However, even if I had a garden I would not wear a bikini - but then I never wear one. Just not the right shape to!

gillybeanz · 26/05/2017 15:11

I don't think it's inappropriate in your own garden, but I'd be too self concious of people seeing me and peeping Toms.

ppeatfruit · 26/05/2017 15:13

The main reason why we don't do nudity in the cold countries is because we live in temperate or usually COLD countries. So nudity is no fun. I suppose the Swedes wouldn't go out in their winter with no clothes on would they? The cave men wore fur .

Gardening in the nude must be painful with the roses and nettles etc. whatever the weather!

Killdora · 26/05/2017 15:13

I think most people have heard that the tan itself is actually skin damage.

They just don't care Grin

It's so deeply ingrained in to us that it 'looks' healthy.

saoirse31 · 26/05/2017 15:15

Not inappropriate at all. Your garden , wear what u like and enjoy

Ecclesiastes · 26/05/2017 15:22

It's not the 'indecency' aspect that stops me sunbathing in my garden - it's the fact that I'm bound to fall asleep and don't want the neighbours to hear me snoring away like a warthog although I'm sure they can hear me through the party wall every night anyway

ppeatfruit · 26/05/2017 15:33

Killdora I don't tan , I burn (even with sun cream) So I wear hats and cover up if I go out midday. The weird looks I get from the brown brigade Grin I don't care I look 10 years younger than them Grin.

Giddyaunt18 · 26/05/2017 15:37

Of course it's fine!

weddingopinionsplease · 26/05/2017 17:13

My neighbour goes out in shorts and her bra when it's really hot. She sits on her laptop and works (Im guessing she's working). I think it's fine, I don't do it myself because I have body ishoos though, even though my neighbour is about the same size as me not slim and her seeing me obviously wouldn't bother her

motheroftwoboys · 26/05/2017 17:17

I have few vices. One of them is loving to get a tan
I am prepared to take the risk and am happiest on holiday certainly topless and ideally naked in the sun. Heaven. Personally I wouldn't inflict my not too bad but middle aged body on the neighbours but I don't think there is anything wrong with it. We have far too many hang ups about nudity.

ForalltheSaints · 26/05/2017 17:28

Nothing wrong at all.

GladAllOver · 26/05/2017 20:01

I've was in the garden this afternoon, wearing only SPF 50. Got some fresh as it degrades when kept. Neighbours haven't complained, which is just as well for them! My garden, my choice.

nannyafrica · 26/05/2017 20:25

I have been sunbathing in my bikini on my balcony, good job it's on the 1st floor as the people walking passed would think my "lady forest" would be classed as indecent !!! It decided to spread when I hit 45 and I can't keep up with the maintenance !

AlmostAJillSandwich · 26/05/2017 20:27

As long as nipples and genitals are covered you'd be legally allowed to walk the streets, so it's definitely ok in your own back garden!

RoseAndRose · 26/05/2017 20:30

My DMum (who is in her late 80s) recently confessed how she used to love sunbathing totally nude in the back garden when we were at school.

So you sound positively conservative, OP

Mum2jenny · 26/05/2017 20:33

I love being naked in the sun when I can ie when I think no one can see me. It's the best way to be free.
I do wear pants if I think I may be overseen though!

ohgoshIdontknow · 26/05/2017 20:35

It's fine.

Purplepicnic · 26/05/2017 20:35

We have a weird attitude to tanning in this country. I have friends who go to the gym, eat well and wouldn't dream of smoking or taking drugs. Yet they're obsessed with getting a tan as soon as the sun comes out. It's so inconsistent.

Sparklingbrook · 26/05/2017 20:37

It is very odd I agree.

NeverTwerkNaked · 26/05/2017 20:39

The advice in that article linked is that a tan built up from "incidental exposure" is fine but a deep tan /burn is a risk.
everything in moderation. Vit D deficiency is linked with MS and lots of other illnesses. We do need exposure to sunlight.

Sparklingbrook · 26/05/2017 20:41

You can get all the Vit D you need from a fully clothed walk. Grin

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 26/05/2017 20:44

I sunbathe topless in my teeniest bikini bottoms in my garden and I think it's totally okay!

Mysterycat23 · 26/05/2017 20:46

There was a thread recently about nude sunbathing in the garden and the consensus seemed to be "your property do as you like". Which surprised me and got me thinking about doing it. Go for it OP. Be sure to hoik the straps around every 10 mins to avoid tan lines Grin

It's sad that you feel you have to ask.
