AIBU?

Sunbathing in a bikini in the garden. Is it indecent?

Once it's genuinely hot I always get my bikini on and lie on my sun lounger getting a tan.

I wear a bikini top and shorts.

Would you consider this okay? Or a bit inappropriate for an overlooked back garden?

I'm never going to stop doing it though. It's not every day we have sun in the UK. Grin

metspengler Bleurgh. Good job I have a corner at the top of the garden hidden away from his window then.

I do this whenever the weather is lovely! When I've been busy with work or at home, there's nothing better than putting on the bikini, grabbing a cold drink, towel and a book and lazing in the sun, phone turned off Wine

Your garden, your bikini, your choice.

What about my 65+ year old male downstairs neighbour in all his wrinkly assed, thonged glory??

It's always his thonged ass side he's sunning though, pointing right at my balcony!

I know he has a perfect right to do this and I greatly admire him for not giving a damn about anyone else's delicate sensibilities, but my God I want to heave every time I unexpectedly catch a glimpse of him!

@metal mum you can be sure a teenage lad will find time in his schedule for both

I sunbathe topless occasionally. There's a nursery next door. I am a weird combination of prude in a changing rooms and naturist in the great outdoors!

If people disapprove of that OP, they would really disapprove of me. I was WFH today, conference calls taken in bikini & hot pants on the decking. Why not? They weren't video calls and I'm not Batman - I don't need my suit to do my job.

Oh and I'm very fair. If I'm out for more than 10-20 mins I do put on strong sunscreen though (as I did today).

I think I must be between skin type four and five on that list. Probably more towards five as I have never burnt (I once went pinkish in the West Indies on the first day of my holiday but that is literally it). So I'm looking at up to two hours outside to get the Vit D I need. Happy to speed this up a bit by stripping off as I don't have two hours a day to spend walking around outside partly covered up. A half hour naked sunbathing session in my lunch hour is a real highlight of my day when it is warm enough.

www.nhs.uk/Livewell/Summerhealth/Pages/vitamin-D-sunlight.aspx

It doesn't exactly say ten minutes, I must have read that somewhere else.

I think I read on the NHS page that it was about ten minutes for fair skinned people, 20 minutes for darker tones?

And it said to keep covered up, that your forearms and backs of the hands or your lower legs uncovered is enough.

I thought you needed to expose a decent area of skin to get enough vitamin D? So at least arms and legs.
For about 20 mins every day (as if) between April and Sept.
Conversely countries whose populations have the lowest levels of Vitamin D have the highest rates of cancer...So not as clear cut as it seems. I cover my face on factor 50 and a hat but do expose arms and legs..

I sunbathe naked in my garden from time to time. Nobody can see me unless they are really trying (would have to literally stand on a stool in an upstairs bedroom and lean out of the window) so I don't think it matters. I like it. It feels good.

I sunbathe naked at home and topless at the local naturist beach. At the regular beach or the Pool it's a bikini.

I don't know anyone who would recommend never going out in the sunshine. Just that you don't have to lie or sit in it and a walk is fine.

Supplementing vitD is way safer than sunlight. Most people in the UK are deficient, and should be supplementing anyway, especially during the summer months.

No, not starkers, but never exposing your skin to the sun isn't great either.

Report
Sparklingbrook · 26/05/2017 21:03

Well I was told that by a HCP Blue. You don't have to get starkers to get Vit D.

BluePepper that reoccurrence of cricket is a nightmare. No one likes that sport.

Bloody autocorrect eh? Grin

You can get all the Vit D you need from a fully clothed walk.
Is that the reason why the vast majority of people are deficient in vitD in this country then?
And why there has been a reoccurrence of cricket in children?

No you don't get enough vitD from a walk.

As for the tan.... there are so many other variables there. But I'm always interested in the at that people who spend a lot fo time out in the sun actually have less cancer overall and recover better if they do get one that those who don't.....

It's sad that you feel you have to ask.

There was a thread recently about nude sunbathing in the garden and the consensus seemed to be "your property do as you like". Which surprised me and got me thinking about doing it. Go for it OP. Be sure to hoik the straps around every 10 mins to avoid tan lines Grin
