AIBU?

Sunbathing in a bikini in the garden. Is it indecent?

Once it's genuinely hot I always get my bikini on and lie on my sun lounger getting a tan.

I wear a bikini top and shorts.

Would you consider this okay? Or a bit inappropriate for an overlooked back garden?

I'm never going to stop doing it though. It's not every day we have sun in the UK. Grin

Yukbuck whether sunscreen is worn is not hugely relevant, a tan is a sign of skin damage, the tan is the skin producing more melanin to protect itself from further damage.

Your garden, you can do what you like (within reason). I sunbathe in a bikini in my garden at every opportunity, despite my neighbour having a good gawp every time he makes (numerous, clearly unnecessary) trips up and down his outside steps that go from his bedroom to the garden that give the best perving vantage point Hmm )

I would do so topless if it were legal, I don't think it is.

I'm wearing a vest top and skimpy-up-your-crack shorts. Only really overlooked by one house here and I think the teenage lad is too busy bonking his girlfriend to worry about me Grin

Of course you can be topless in your own garden!

I would love to get my baps out in the garden - don't think my teenagers would be too impressed though...

Yabu because you are risking skin cancer.

Bikini top in own garden is fine.

Do it and enjoy! We hot tub lots in the spring / summer / autumn and take a very Scandinavian appraoch to it.

Sunbathing in moderation is fine - it's the most efficient way of getting vitamin D and melanin. Melanin protects the body by absorbing UV radiation.

As with all things moderation is key, and I speak as someone who's father passed away from skin cancer.

I don't have any issue with it - your back yard is your back yard. However...

Why post in an AIBU about it if you are, and I quote, "...never going to stop doing it though."

Seems goady to me.

Not unreasonable. Just not hugely sensible.

If ou don't burn you won't get cancer. 20 minutes outside in sun with no sun cream is the best way to get vit D. Food and tablets don't work in the same way.

I just have my knickers on - but not over looked, not that I would let that stop me.

I've been in my overlooked back garden in my bikini for the last 2 days. If the neighbours choose to crane their necks and look out of their bedroom windows at me then I suggest they need to get a life!

Oh fucking hell can people just wind their necks in a bit?

The op hasn't stated she's not putting sun cream on, you can tan through factor 40 FFS.

Either way, her question had nothing to do with skin cancer - assuming she's old enough to know what skin cancer is, that's her bag isn't it?

Tanning is skin damage, no different to burning.

I think many people just aren't aware of the dangers actually, hence why there is such a lax attitude to sun safety.

I don't think there's a lax attitude - people know what skin cancer is, surely if they choose to go and sit outside, that's their choice?

I sunbathe topless in a back garden overlooked on all sides.

Fuck 'em. I don't parade about but I don't hide away. If nobody wants to see it, they don't have to look.

Of course they know caffeine, but I think they think it's only caused by excessive burning. It's not.

YADNBU. I can't imagine anyone would think otherwise?! You'd be surprised, my mum for one, I think inappropriate might be her favourite word. And probably MIL who was horrified I'd hung my underwear out on the line for all to see Grin

In the world of normal people tho, absolutely fine.

I think most do realise, they just don't care, unfortunately.

There'll be a thread on here next saying "AIBU to smoke in my back garden" and everyone will be chipping in with "YABU, don't you know you can get lung cancer? "
