It makes me gag.
No one reached out, there was a discussion, or we approached them or we asked them a questions.

I work in science. I don't reach out to people, I work with them.

It's mainly one colleague who says it.

Just needed to get that off my chest!

What if your job is selling four tops records?

StealthPolarBear · 19/05/2017 11:04

But if it isn't yanbu

SignoraStronza · 19/05/2017 11:05

YANBU. Ditto to 'Moving forwards and misuse of the reflexive pronoun ' .....contact myself or another member of my team and we will arrange a meeting with yourselves.'
Aaargh!!

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 19/05/2017 11:06

The series Sons Of Anarchy was spoilt by the characters constantly 'reaching out' to other people.

Got right on my nerves.

KustardKat · 19/05/2017 11:06

I hate this too! I think it is an Americanism that has crossed over the pond.

I also hate "myself" when used erroneously.

Also stupid corporate speak like "drill down". I think often people say things like this because they think it make them sound more clever. It doesn't.

aginghippy · 19/05/2017 11:08

YANBU Is the colleague in question American? It's an Americanism.

rightsofwomen · 19/05/2017 11:10

She is, but we have many non-native English speakers in our group and so it spreads quickly.

They should all speak the Queen's English like I do, goddammit!

They are merely reaching out for the low-hanging fruit which they can then run up the flag pole to see if a paradigm shift is achieved.

aginghippy · 19/05/2017 11:14

I used to work with a man from California. It took me a few weeks to understand that when he said he was 'reaching out' to someone, all he was doing was sending an email.

Leavesandburies · 19/05/2017 11:16

It depends on whether you need to cascade any information as part of your role.

True, but sometimes you need to think outside of the box and use out-of-band comms to reach the corporate eco-system if you want to amplify the message.

Oh my god YANBU!! This also drives me mad.

One of our senior partners sent this to everyone in the firm....hopefully the attachment will work!

iwouldgoouttonight · 19/05/2017 11:39

YADNBU. This drives me insane. We had a meeting the other day to clarify what our jobs are because we've had a restructure. I was told my job involves blue-sky thinking about the institution's ecosystem. Confused I need to leave don't I?

AvocadoHand · 19/05/2017 11:39

This really used to piss me off but I've heard it so many times I'm desensitised.

Rachel0Greep · 19/05/2017 11:45

Are you having a brown bag lunch, OP? Apparently that's another of the cascading, blue sky, low hanging fruit 'things'...

The first time some jumped up yoke told me to reach out to her, I felt a bit sick.

Jellytussle · 19/05/2017 11:46

Aaargh. I hate this too. If people aren't fucking reaching out to me they're trying to connect with me or keeping me in a loop. Bastards the lot of them.

RichardSimmons · 19/05/2017 11:53

The "myself" trend is the WORST! I think people think it sounds smarter or more formal but in actuality it makes my ears bleed.

TiredMumToTwo · 19/05/2017 11:59

One of my team was working to solutionise something the other day whilst another colleague said he needed to socialise the message to other teams!!!!!!!

Chewbecca · 19/05/2017 12:01

YANBU

Whenever anyone says this in my office (multiple times a day) I always stretch an arm out to literally reach out to the offender.

They all probably think I am bonkers but hey ho.

Ethylred · 19/05/2017 12:06

But I like low-hanging fruit!

[Reaches out for cluster of grapes.]

Hey do you see what I did there?

KustardKat · 19/05/2017 12:38

Low hanging fruit makes me think of testicles....
