Ginger That sign is the absolute truth!

I have to admit there are times when I just want to bury myself and ignore for the next 1355 days (next inauguration). And then I remember that I'm not fighting for myself. I'm fighting for others just as others have fought for me. I may have not been alive for their fight, it may have been fought decades or a century ago, but they fought for me as surely as if I was their daughter, their sister, their friend. Because they knew that their struggle would benefit more than themselves. And that the whole is more important than the individual. And that charity does NOT begin at home.

And so I'll pick up my sign, I'll raise my voice, I'll cast my vote. Because I am my sister's (and brother's) keeper.

GingerPCatt · 06/05/2017 17:15

Across that is beautiful. I may print that out and read it when it all gets to be too much.

GingerIvy · 06/05/2017 17:37

Across That's how I feel as well.I'm an American. I live in the UK, so many of these things don't directly affect me. They do, however, affect family and friends and lots of others that I don't even know. We all have to fight the good fight, eh?

If anyone is interested, there is a documentary on BBC2 at 7.20pm about 'Trump and culture: A Brave New World'. I don't know if I can bring myself to watch it.
Across I agree that those are beautiful words. I am truly grateful for these threads and the Referendum ones, I honestly think they are saving my sanity.
I go through days when I literally just want to give up and these threads carry me through and then I have days when I feel all fired up and want to support others. Hopefully, between us all, we will get through this.
Maybe I'm just hopelessly naive but I've always held the belief that most people are basically kind and decent- we're all flawed and we all mess up sometimes but I like to think that most of us are basically good. It's really hard to see someone so malevolent in charge of such a great country. As hard as I try, I can't see a single redeeming feature in Trump. He's your genuine Pantomime villain.

There have been a few links to articles musing that the GOP have been finished by Trumpcare, Ginger. That article doesn't surprise me.

AcrossthePond55 · 06/05/2017 21:05

Gosh, thanks all. Blush

Hoolies I agree. In the words of Anne Frank "Despite it all, I still believe that people are good at heart". It just seems at times that there are so many people these days who don't listen to their 'good hearts'.

And I do truly believe that there is 'evil' in this world. And evil people. And I believe that Trump is evil. He's beyond selfish, that's just 'I'm all right Jack, I've got mine, get your own'. What makes him and his ilk evil is that it's not enough for them to 'have theirs', they actually want to take away from others. To widen the divide. To prove how much they have by seeing how much less they can finagle for others to have. It's sick and twisted because they do it in the name of God, or 'Patriotism', or 'Public Safety'.

But, right now it's time for a Mint Julep and to sit back and watch the Derby Day races at Churchill Downs. Anyone fancy a flutter? Wink

cozietoesie · 06/05/2017 21:31

I rather fancy a mint julep, actually! Grin

CaveMum · 06/05/2017 21:46

Across I work in Racing here in the UK so obviously have an interest in the "Durby" Wink

I'm hoping Thunder Snow can oblige for the Godolphin operation, but realistically it'll be one of the home team that wins. Would be a nice story if Gunnevera won though.
