Texting while driving

Shrzx1105 · 15/04/2017 14:30

DH texts and drives sometimes. He has managed to not get into any accidents (yet...) but yesterday he almost hit a car stopped in front of us because he was texting Angry

I have told him multiple times that I am not comfortable with him texting while I'm in the car but he just told me he never forced me to get in the car with him. AIBU to ask him to stop texting and driving??

OP posts:
MrsJamin · 15/04/2017 16:30

He doesn't respect your life. It's the truth if he puts texting ahead of you.

Fortnum · 15/04/2017 16:55

A relative was killed by a texting driver - who i used to go to school with. It destroyed 2 familys. DO NOT LET HIM TEXT AND DRIVE

Creampastry · 15/04/2017 16:57

It's fucking illegal!!

BeaderBird · 15/04/2017 16:58

What a prick. So mad that people like him are on the road while I'm driving around with my newborn in the back.

Suppose he thinks he's special and won't come to any harm. Sounds like an absolute twat.

Gillian1980 · 15/04/2017 16:59

Yanbu

I'd refuse to let him drive if he has his phone within reaching distance. He's risking people's lives!

megletthesecond · 15/04/2017 17:01

I'd LTB. Seriously. If he doesn't realise how bad this is I wouldn't waste time with him.

YouOKHun · 15/04/2017 17:02

My best friend was killed by someone like your DH. Show him this thread and tell him if he's got a bit of time to spare I'll tell him all about the pain, the devastation, the agony of losing someone because a text saying 'running late' had to be sent while driving.

Feelinglikeafailure · 15/04/2017 17:03

Hard to get to work of your dead.

Get a fucking bus and let him risk his own life

StarryIllusion · 15/04/2017 17:06

Show him the video of the lorry driver killing that family because he was on his phone and point out that that could be his wife and kids. Cunt.

5foot5 · 15/04/2017 17:06

AA advert

Last time I was at the cinema they had this ad from the AA. Apparently you are twice as likely to have an accident if you text while driving than if you drink and drive

ExplodingCarrots · 15/04/2017 17:08

Another poster here who has had a relative pass away in a RTA. It makes me beyond mad to see/ hear about people who drive so recklessly. That attitude 'it'll never happen to me' will always some way or another come around to bite you in the arse.

What happens if when he's caught or if he totals the car? How will you get to work then? What if the people he crashes in to are killed? Why does he take the risk? Is he that arrogant to think he can get away with it.

I would refuse to get in the car with them and take a taxi.

jelliebelly · 15/04/2017 17:08

It's illegal for a reason ffs how much more convincing does he need!

StarryIllusion · 15/04/2017 17:08

Get a taxi to work with his credit card. Fuck him.

MabelFurball · 15/04/2017 17:09

Shocking to read this - blatant disregard for anybody else. What sort of thick stupid person still does this.

HoobleDooble · 15/04/2017 17:10

Use your phone to take a photo of him doing it, plaster it all over social media, and let everyone who knows him find out what a selfish prick he is. Plus this way they get the chance to avoid him if they see him out in his selfishwankermobile. As someone who publicly grassed up an acquaintance for drink driving (phoned the police on my mobile in the middle of the pub he'd just left to pick up his pregnant gf from work), I know, you know it's the right thing to do.

SarcasmMode · 15/04/2017 17:10

I wouldn't recommend taking the phone off the partner - OPs tone sounds like he might be a bit aggressive if she did.

Can you drive OP?

Do you have a friend who could drive you?

Mulberry72 · 15/04/2017 17:17

What a twat! A selfish, inconsiderate twat who obviously doesn't value your, or your DC's lives (Or anybody else's) if he's prepared to text & drive.

A young Mum who lived locally to me was killed recently by a texting driver who wasn't watching the road and drove straight across a pedestrian crossing when the lights were on red. She had 2 young DC (under 5), it's heartbreaking.

I hope your DH gets caught. It might knock some sense into him!

5foot5 · 15/04/2017 17:18

What sort of thick stupid person still does this.

I suspect he is one of those arrogant arseholes who thinks he is so much more competent at driving than everyone else that this rule doesn't really apply to him. Other people who are less good drivers clearly can't cope with texting and driving but with his superior abilities there is no problem. Knob.

Witchend · 15/04/2017 17:22

It's been illegal since 2007 (just after I passed my test)
You're 4x more likely to have an accident while texting. Not quite as bad as drink driving but close (I think that's 6x).
Would he drink and drive?

BIWI · 15/04/2017 17:25

Learn to drive, OP! Then you're not putting yourself at risk.

BarbaraofSeville · 15/04/2017 17:27

It's wankers like your DH who can't leave their fucking phones alone who've caused the increased penalties and crack down.

I hope he gets caught and made to go on one of those courses where bereaved relatives talk of their devastation about the loved one killed by a texting driver.

There. Is. No. Excuse.

ChickenMe · 15/04/2017 17:28

Confiscate his phone and learn to drive. Tear a huge strip off him verbally and don't hold back
Can't imagine what kind of "man" he is but he sounds like a friend's DH who drives at 110 and said the same to her when she objected.

RortyCrankle · 15/04/2017 17:36

One of my personal rules is never to get in a car with a fucking idiot behind the wheel. Your DH is a fucking idiot. I suggest you adopt the same rule.

JustMyLuckUnfortunately · 15/04/2017 17:47

He could kill yourselves or someone else. I would refuse to be in the car when he drives & drive instead

SoulAccount · 15/04/2017 17:55

Is there no other way you can get to and from work?
Do you drive?
