To think current fashion is f*cking hideous?

Probably BU but I went shopping the other week as I needed a few tops. I saw:
Bright yellow playsuits
Hideous tops with the shoulders cut out
Skirts that look more like belts
Jeans with so many rips that they are indecent
Tops that aren't even decent (too short)
Cardigans with no sleeves (why, you wear a cardigan if it's cold surely)
AIBU to think that it's hideous and nobody would want to be seen dead in it?

I love cold shoulder tops, they hide the top of my arms that make me feel insecure and make me feel confident. I have to say I've also been wearing them over a year so mine definitely won't be going in the bin.

Yanbu not to like them but some of you are being u and need to take off your bitchy judgey pants... imagine if someone said some of these things about the clothes you wore. We are not at school but sometimes on mumsnet it feels like it...

Roversandrhodes · 09/04/2017 17:36

Oh dear this makes you sound old

Lovelyjubbly87 · 09/04/2017 17:38

www.fiftyplus.co.uk Wink

WaitrosePigeon · 09/04/2017 17:39

The tops without cutout shoulders are hideous

WomanStanley · 09/04/2017 17:41

Fashion is supposed to repel older people. That's how it's gone since clothes began.

PossumInAPearTree · 09/04/2017 17:42

I've just been shopping for tops with/for 16yo Dd who is quite fashion conscious and even she was moaning about shit it all is.

She's mostly aggrieved about the thin material which makes 95% of tops semi see through and then all the cropped top ones which she also won't wear.

Lovelyjubbly87 · 09/04/2017 17:42

Try the link above Waitrose ... you might find something less 'hideous' there Hmm

Lottie5mummy · 09/04/2017 17:44

I thought I was the only one that thought this - who can wear these maxi dresses with so many frills you look like little bo peep!! I found a few bits in M&S last month but more spring than summer; it's dire out there!!

Lovelymess · 09/04/2017 17:44

Your so right!!! Hate all current stuff at moment 😒

Lweji · 09/04/2017 17:50

Did you wake up from a looooooooong coma, OP? Grin

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 09/04/2017 17:52

Fashion is supposed to repel older people. That's how it's gone since clothes began.

We get that. The problem is that everyone seems to have chased the "fashion forward" frilly shite market and left us with no options for decent basics. We are marooned with previous seasons' treasures, desperately hoping someone pulls their finger out before are forced into sackcloth and rags. I think we all know M&S hasn't got what it takes, so who is it going to be? Maybe next could pull it off? They have lots of stores, a really great online proposition. They just need to start stocking more stuff that we want to buy...

Goldfishjane · 09/04/2017 17:53

Woman "Fashion is supposed to repel older people. That's how it's gone since clothes began"

no, I've always hated frills and patterns and floatiness and I certainly know 20 somethings who also hate it.

I don't really notice what other people wear, much less criticise it - but I do notice when I can't find what I want anywhere. I am also glad I bought 2 pairs of the last boots I really liked.

btw is the ankle skimming thing the trousers that finish at such a point you can always see a bit of ankle? the whole point of trousers covering my ankle boot is not to have to worry about stuff like that.

I'm conscious I've been wearing the same going out stuff for ages now - I mean for bars etc - but I think I'd rather bore myself and eveyrone else with the same outfit than try more online shopping.

malificent7 · 09/04/2017 17:53

Loving the embroidery everywhere now. So pretty.. suits my slightly boho taste

ElspethFlashman · 09/04/2017 17:59

Yeah, the embroidery can stay. In small doses. I draw the line at khaki military jackets with roses all over the back though cos nobody will be wearing them next year.

Bardot tops baffle me. Who is buying these? It's too cold! Even when the warm weather comes, who can be arsed having to deal with the bra situation? Who's going to swan around the supermarket in a see through Bardot top?

WaitrosePigeon · 09/04/2017 18:01

Some stuff hideous via the link too.

WaitrosePigeon · 09/04/2017 18:02

Might order this though, really like it www.fiftyplus.co.uk/shop/soft-pink-colourblock-foil-tunic/kh981/product/details/show.action?pdBoUid=5201#colour:Soft%20Pink,size:

brickinitIam · 09/04/2017 18:05

And don't get me started on bloody peplums and ugly flappy bell sleeves on everything.

Ugh. those bell sleeves are on everything. They're hideous.
I think they do it on purpose because they know something like that will date very quickly, so people won't be able to wear them next year and will have to be new clothes.
They make more money.

brickinitIam · 09/04/2017 18:05

to buy new clothes

CoolCarrie · 09/04/2017 18:05

If I find something I really love , then I try to get it in different colours ( depending on prices)Never cared about fashion when I was younger and care even less now.

CoolCarrie · 09/04/2017 18:09

Tali, that is a stunning dress, love poppies

AlexRose5 · 09/04/2017 18:10

YANBU!
I can't get my head around the tops with the shoulders cut out !
It's even got a style title ..."cold shoulder" (yawn)
I see a top I like then i realise the shoulders are hacked out Hmm .
I suppose it could just be that I cant pull the style off ... I see girks with slim tanned shoulders looking dead relaxed wearing them but a woman of my girth would just look like Dr. Banner getting ready to hulk out...

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 09/04/2017 18:10

Even that fiftyplus website is not immune - embroidered cold shoulder frock, in polyester of course.... Polyester & the menopause are not a good combo.

All that you'd want in a jean.

Goldfishjane · 09/04/2017 18:12

"Who's going to swan around the supermarket in a see through Bardot top?"

they're for nights out surely?
