To buy myself a birthday cake?

Isawahatonce · 06/04/2017 16:37

I really like birthdays. And cake.
I didn't have a birthday cake last year and it's highly unlikely one will materialize this year (unless the cat buys it). It's an important birthday and I just really want one.
Is this a really stupid, sad thing to do? Am I being ridiculous? I think perhaps I am being ridiculous. I also strongly suspect I am overthinking this...

You want a cake? You get a cake!

If it's a big birthday get a particularly nice cake.

From the cats if that feels better. But there is nothing ridiculous about buying yourself a cake when you want one

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 06/04/2017 16:45

Cake Perfectly sensible if you fancy one. Or make yourself something.

PinkHeart59156816 · 06/04/2017 16:45

Get the cake! I've never even get myself some candles

If you can't treat yourself to any cake you want on your birthday when can you

MyLittleBoyBlue · 06/04/2017 16:47

Definitely, I always make sure I have cake. Even if I buy/make it myself. Nothing ridiculous about it.

Piffpaffpoff · 06/04/2017 16:48

I love birthday cake! I buy myself one every year regardless of whether someone else gets me one. Go and get yourself a whopper!!

Goldfishshoals · 06/04/2017 16:49

I have made myself a birthday cake before. One of my friends said it was the 'saddest thing' that I'd had to make my own. But no one else was going to do it and I'd rather be 'sad' with cake than without!

coffeecakemum · 06/04/2017 16:50

Can you find a recipe and bake it with friends or family. That would be fun. If cooking isn't your thing then I would go just go buy one. Cake needs no reason. Enjoy it?

Crunchymum · 06/04/2017 16:51

I make myself a cake (or buy a selection of cupcakes from Hummingbird) for my birthday.... and sometimes not for my birthday too.

LordScuttlebutt · 06/04/2017 16:51

I've done it myself. Why ever not?

You will be under no obligation to share it now!!!!

LadyPW · 06/04/2017 16:53

Your cat really wants to buy you one but can't because of the language difficulties and the lack of pocket money you dole out (on account of cats not having pockets). It's your duty to make said cat feel better about the situation by buying one on their behalf. Candles are good. And don't forget to sing Happy Birthday to yourself too.

popcornpaws · 06/04/2017 16:55

I order my cake every year from marks and spencer, my DH picks it up so I'm just making sure i get the one i want.

Itsjustaphase84 · 06/04/2017 16:56

I've had the same thought... You know I'm actually going to buy a cake for my next birthday thank you

Penguin27 · 06/04/2017 16:56

Definitely, get a special cake for your special day Cake

Isawahatonce · 06/04/2017 17:01

I'm gonna do it! Thanks everyone Grin
I may get party hats and candles too, i'm quite excited now Grin
LadyPW You make an excellent point. I'm sure he'd be most mortified if he couldn't get me one. It's a plan.

Go for it! If it makes you feel any better I've been known to buy myself a birthday cake when it's not even my birthday Blush I do love cake.

Meekonsandwich · 06/04/2017 18:05

It's not sad, if you want something sometimes you have to go out and get it yourself _

Last month I bought myself some flowers and chocolates for my birthday because I suspected I wouldn't get anything otherwise and I was right.

I enjoyed them immensely :)

willothewisp17 · 06/04/2017 18:07

buy a birthday cake for yourself, I'd buy a birthday cake even if it wasn't my birthday 😂 xx

Tunnocksmallow · 06/04/2017 18:08

I read something the other day that said something along the lines of; one of the best things about being an adult, is that nobody can stop you buying cake whenever you want it!
Buy the cake, eat the cake, enjoy! Cake

BeastofCraggyIsland · 06/04/2017 18:09

Do it! Everyone deserves a cake on their birthday and this way you get the one you really want Smile

WelliesAndPyjamas · 06/04/2017 18:11

Get one.
I chose my own one this year because logistically it was the simplest thing to do given family activities and timings. So what!

HollyJollyDillydolly · 06/04/2017 18:13

Absolutely get the cake. 🎂
Life's too short, if you want a cake get one and make sure it's a nice big one too!

DaisyQueen · 06/04/2017 18:16

I bought my own cake for my birthday last week. It was delicious

Isawahatonce · 06/04/2017 18:35

I'm considering this www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=285313228 or maybe a caterpillar cake. I always wanted one as a child and was never allowed so this is my chance Grin

OP posts:
HerBluebiro · 06/04/2017 19:28

If you have the choice of a caterpillar cake or any other sort of cake always have the caterpillar. I warn you though. They don't taste particularly nice.

Astro55 · 06/04/2017 19:32

You can do better OP! Go to the local bakery and order a great cake!! It's special occasion and you deserve a treat!!
