To buy myself a birthday cake?

I really like birthdays. And cake.
I didn't have a birthday cake last year and it's highly unlikely one will materialize this year (unless the cat buys it). It's an important birthday and I just really want one.
Is this a really stupid, sad thing to do? Am I being ridiculous? I think perhaps I am being ridiculous. I also strongly suspect I am overthinking this...

I love birthday cake...only place is marks and spencer for birthday cake...the star or the colin caterpillar. Believe me on this ive done research...worse birthday dry cake was waitrose. Sainsbury and tesco are a no too. Not tried asda as im sticking to marks now. Only thing i buy in marks now apart from the £10 deals. Buy your cake, light to candles so the cake can sing to you too then eat it. Lucky you one cake all to yourself.

Cakes in marks are not bad priced between £5-10. Is colin £7 or £8 but you can get him on offer sometimes. I just buy off shelf.

You definitely need an M&S Colin cake, they are very good (almost irresistible enough to justify cutting the arse off your grandchild's cake and eating it)

ShelaghTurner · 07/04/2017 04:55

Definitely M&S. Their cakes are no more expensive than other supermarkets but so much nicer.

This is one of the main reasons I wish I was rich. I'd love to buy cake-less mumsnetters birthday cakes. I'd be a weird sort of super hero that whizzed round depositing cake around the country! GrinCake

Do it! I made this one for myself one year (and I have a DH/children) and the 2nd one, I baked and let them decorate - but it's mainly because I wanted to experiment and like cake baking.

Have a lovely birthday!

Get the cake !! I too would recommend m&s Vs the others it really is worth the extra... I'm sure it's not much..Ds had a waitrose one last year (the 🐑) was very disappointing...And got an asda one for the kids party and even the kids left it! Twas yuck (i had to check it obviously)...M&s all the way... Although making your own is great so would learn if you can...

TheConstant That cake is amazing!
It seems I've been told, I'll have a look in M&S when I can get there, I think there's one near me though I must admit I've never been there.
Thank you everyone for all the birthday wishes, you've really lifted my spirits Smile
