To buy myself a birthday cake?

Isawahatonce · 06/04/2017 16:37

I really like birthdays. And cake.
I didn't have a birthday cake last year and it's highly unlikely one will materialize this year (unless the cat buys it). It's an important birthday and I just really want one.
Is this a really stupid, sad thing to do? Am I being ridiculous? I think perhaps I am being ridiculous. I also strongly suspect I am overthinking this...

Astro not sure I can afford a bakery cake I'm afraid Sad I'll just have to become a master baker and then I can make my own next year Grin

Everyone needs cake on their birthday. It's my little dogs 2nd birthday on Saturday and she's getting cake!

Astro55 · 06/04/2017 20:05

No!! They do fantastic sponge cakes 'off the shelf' only £2/3 with lots of cream - or the yummy chocolate ones! Nom nom

SootSprite · 06/04/2017 20:08

Your cat told mine he really wanted to buy you a Colin the Caterpillar cake but Asda wouldn't accept a half chewed bird in exchange. He feels bad about it. As a responsible cat owner you really need to get one sorted so he doesn't continue to feel bad.

WotcherHarry · 06/04/2017 20:10

The M&S caterpillar cake is lush! Enjoy!

AdaColeman · 06/04/2017 20:14

I got myself a fab cake from M&S last year, lovely sponge and pink roses! It came with a bottle of pink fizz too, and arrived on the right day!! Wine Wine

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 06/04/2017 20:29

If you get a Colin the Caterpillar cake you must find someone to eat the bum first before you have a chance to blow out the candles.

Bobbins43 · 06/04/2017 20:44

Oh, God, do it. I've been buying myself a cake since I was a teenager. Do it, do it, do it. Get candles too. Do it properly. Everyone deserves a birthday cake Cake

Bobbins43 · 06/04/2017 20:46

I also buy myself a huge bunch of birthday flowers and I buy myself birthday presents too. :D

Isawahatonce · 06/04/2017 21:49

Hearts haha I saw that thread, I thought that was a funny coincidence Smile No-one will be eating the bum off my caterpillar, it's all mine! Grin
The M&S ones look lovely but they're £40 each Shock I was thinking more along the lines of this groceries.asda.com/product/character-cakes/asda-clyde-the-caterpillar-cake/400654 it may taste awful but I'd have a CATERPILLAR.

It would never have occurred to be that this was in the least unusual. I had a party for my 40th and arranged it myself.

One of the things I arranged was for a lovely cake! (Big enough for left overs!)

Isawahatonce · 06/04/2017 21:56

Scarlett I think it's a bit different if it's part of a party, isn't it? I remember my DF blowing up balloons for his 40th. I just think it's maybe a bit odd when I'll be eating most of it myself. My flatmate may have a slice or two but still. I'm still doing it though - that cake is mine! I've been convinced Grin

Oh I definitely would Isa cake is always a good idea!

Happy Birthday! Flowers

RiversrunWoodville · 06/04/2017 22:01

If you are in Northern Ireland op I am very happy to help the cat bake one for you, I have a baking addiction and usually end up doing my own (as DH is hopeless and the cats refuse)

TalkingofMichaelAngel0 · 06/04/2017 22:03

I bought myself
A lovely m&s teapot mothers day cake Grin

Isawahatonce · 06/04/2017 22:03

I bought myself one in my first year at uni thinking it was the only way to guarantee one... I ended up with 3! Happy days Grin

MumW · 06/04/2017 22:22

RiversrunWoodville
Just what I was thinking. E.Midlands rather than NI, though.

Everyone should have birthday cake - it's the law isn't it?

Happy Birthday. CakeWineFlowers

RiversrunWoodville · 06/04/2017 22:50

If you and cat ever come visiting there will always be Cake here op and a very happy birthday to you

Redlipstickismyarmour · 07/04/2017 00:45

The £40 M&S Colin is enormous, a normal sized one (serves 10) is only 7 and much nicer than Asda's Clyde. Do it! You can have your cake and eat it 😊

indigox · 07/04/2017 01:21

I bought my own this year, I didn't have a cake last year, or the year before because I expected my now ex-bf to make the effort and buy me one. I wish I'd learnt that if you want something you should go and get it yourself years ago.

hellokittymania · 07/04/2017 02:01

Nothing wrong at all with getting your own cake. At any time of the year. But especially on your birthday! Cake 🎂☕️🍰🍨

ZebraOwl · 07/04/2017 02:25

My cats have been known to buy me birthday/Christmas presents before now (they have excellent taste) so am sure your cat will be fully on board with getting you a cake. Maybe just don't let him pick the flavour...?

FairyDogMother11 · 07/04/2017 02:36

Please buy yourself a cake! I didn't get one this year so I spend all year buying little cakes to make up for it Grin
That said I'd probably still buy the little cakes all year round because I love cake Cake I hope you have a lovely birthday and an even lovelier cake x

EnidButton · 07/04/2017 02:41

If you go into M&S they have lots of £7- £10 birthday cakes on the shelves. Chocolate with solid chocolate stars and butter cream piping. Vanilla sponge with roses piped on top. Caterpillar shaped ones! Other fancy shapes. Get yourself in there and get yourself a lovely big cake.

And yes, you have to have candles! 🎂
