To be iffy about the cut-out shoulder craze?

Disclaimer before anybody says it: yes I know this is trivial!

This craze for clothes with the shoulders missing seems to have come out of nowhere. It's not that I dislike it - if it floats your boat then go for it. But so many clothes now have the shoulders missing that there seems to be nothing left to buy with shoulders!

Please tell me shoulders will come back in one day!

It's doing my head in too! I don't want cold shoulders; recently all the dresses I like have had bloody cold shoulders !

MooPointCowsOpinion · 02/04/2017 21:24

Bloody shoulders out everywhere. YANBU.

ligersaremyfavouriteanimal · 02/04/2017 21:25

I'm with you, often looks like the stitching has come undone at first glance!

TheStoic · 02/04/2017 21:25

Looks extremely cheap, imo.

MaximaDeWit · 02/04/2017 21:26

YANBU. I bought my first ever cold shoulder top today because I loved it from a distance but when I picked it up realised the shoulders were missing. I gave in tho and bought it and actually quite like the style

ragz134 · 02/04/2017 21:26

Oh how I detest this...
It isn't practical and I've yet to see anyone in real life look good in these.

megletthesecond · 02/04/2017 21:27

Yanbu. It does weird things to proportions.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 02/04/2017 21:29

I think it looks bloody awful.

I've yet to see any top/dress/playsuit look good it this style. It just seems to cheapen the whole outfit imho - I'm not sure why though.

Fruitboxjury · 02/04/2017 21:38

I can't bare It Grin

I think it stemmed from the awful cut out trend of a couple of years ago, another one I can't stand. Any kind of cut out (except laser cut design sometimes) looks cheap and tacky imho.

I also hate them because they will date clothes. I like to wear things as long as I want to / can, I have a feeling we will all be turned off these dramatically in about 12-24m time and several seasons worth of cold shoulder tops and cut out dresses will find themselves in charity shops and fancy dress boxes.

Figgygal · 02/04/2017 21:40

Hate it too
Makes everything look really cheap!!

GahBuggerit · 02/04/2017 21:40

I like it Blush i don't like the tops of my arms to be on show but don't mind the shoulder bit and gets a bit of air flow to help keep cool. Don't like the spaghetti strap type though

Bluntness100 · 02/04/2017 21:43

I agree, they look awful on. I've genuinely not seen anyone in one where I've thought "that looks nice" . It looks cheap , tacky and well, just plain silly.

This is one fashion that will go down in history as something to cringe over.

tigerdriverII · 02/04/2017 21:43

YABU. I didn't think I'd like them at all but tried on a grey marl top with a longer back and a bit shorter in the front. I know:?it sounds horrendous but I wear it with black jeans and boots and little bits of jewellery, and it looks fab. I'm 55 and fat so maybe not the cold shoulder target but I love it and have had lots of compliments when wearing it.

EweAreHere · 02/04/2017 21:45

Can't stand the look. It seemed to be popular for the last year or so, but I saw loads of such tops on lots of clearance racks last week ... I don't think I'm the only one who is refusing to buy them.

LemonBreeland · 02/04/2017 21:45

I bloody hate it. Such a strange style. Will never be my choice of top.

IamRonnieBiggs · 02/04/2017 21:47

There's so little choice that doesn't have them! Or bloody bardo (?) tops

I don't want to show my bloody shoulders!

DonaldStott · 02/04/2017 21:51

Don't mind the cold shoulder tops so much, but not my cup of tea. But I really, really hate the jeans with slits in all the way up, but even worse, the jeans with massive patches of material missing.

They just look bloody ridiculous.

Example attached.

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 02/04/2017 21:55

Those jeans! WTF is the point of wearing jeans if you still have to shave your legs?

Cold shoulder tops look tacky and I agree they will date very quickly. What is wrong with clothes that fit and keep the cold out?

Disclaimer: I am frumpy.

Notcontent · 02/04/2017 21:57

I think it looks ok on some tops but it's one of those looks that's reached saturation point so I will avoid it I think!

But agree that it's preferable to jeans with huge patches missing!!! That's just not a good look on anyone! Even 18 year olds with great legs...

onceandneveragain · 02/04/2017 21:58

I agree both that they look terrible, and that they will date quickly, rendering clothes unwearable. At least it is the right season now though - there were so many thick winter dress and jumpers with huge gaps in the arms over the last few months Confused - if I've gone to the effort of putting something warm on, it's probably because I want to be, you know, warm - not have the freezing wind and rain on shoulders and arms in the middle of December!

eurochick · 02/04/2017 22:00

I think they look ridiculous. I consider my shoulders to be one of my best features but still wouldn't wear one.

StayAChild · 02/04/2017 22:03

I've yet to see anyone looking really good in one. I think they make you look round shouldered or something.

WhisperingLoudly · 02/04/2017 22:03

Looks good on women with brown, toned, slim, angular shoulders. So a tiny minority.

DonaldStott · 02/04/2017 22:03

WTF is the point of wearing jeans if you still have to shave your legs

Fpmsl. Agree wholeheartedly.

ethelfleda · 02/04/2017 22:05

YANBU I hate this craze too
