To be iffy about the cut-out shoulder craze?

Disclaimer before anybody says it: yes I know this is trivial!

This craze for clothes with the shoulders missing seems to have come out of nowhere. It's not that I dislike it - if it floats your boat then go for it. But so many clothes now have the shoulders missing that there seems to be nothing left to buy with shoulders!

Please tell me shoulders will come back in one day!

Yeah, saw a few in M&S.

IMO it looks a bit cheap, like a cut-price gypsy-rose look, and just as unconvincing.

Wolfiefan · 02/04/2017 22:05

Cheap and nasty. Never once seen anyone look good in one. Yuck.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 02/04/2017 22:08

WTF is the point of wearing jeans if you still have to shave your legs

These were on the 'wish' clothing app the other day. I can't think why they're reduced Grin

EatsShitAndLeaves · 02/04/2017 22:09

Oops - not sure where my bold went there on the quote!

Elledouble · 02/04/2017 22:09

I hate them. They're bloody everywhere at the moment. I have an upper arm tattoo that I prefer to keep hidden at work (first world problems and my own fault, I know Grin) and every time I spot a top with sleeves they've got stupid cutout bits.

Can't help but feel it's an excuse to use less fabric (just like it's getting more difficult to get longer tops these days too). Maybe I just shop in cheap shops!

Mungobungo · 02/04/2017 22:22

I'm glad I'm not not the only one.
Trying to find something smart enough and professional looking for work but not hideously frumpy is hard enough without having to face every top having the bloody shoulders missing! If it's not a 'cold shoulder' top, it's a bloody 'bardot' off shoulder thing or some sort of tiny stringy strappy thing - none of which instill any semblance of professionalism for the job I do or conform to any kind of uniform/clothing policy.

And don't get me started on jeans with holes in. They come back around every 5 years or so and it gives me the rage.

That and the fact that body suits came back in... only a man who has never had to endure the horror of the body suit front-back wedgie and the hideousness of faffing with poppers or worse, poppers coming undone unexpectedly and spectacularly - would bring those bastards back!!

Sparklingbrook · 02/04/2017 22:25

I think they just look odd. What is the point of cold shoulder tops? Or weirder still-jackets.

sniffle12 · 02/04/2017 22:25

It makes you wonder who is buying them and convincing the designers to make more, given the general opinion on here!

Hate them too, especially on children, they look cheap and tacky imo

Sparklingbrook · 02/04/2017 22:28

I haven't seen any in RL that look good on anyone.

PenelopeFlintstone · 02/04/2017 22:29

I've got one on right now. I like it. Its something different. I've only bought one. You can get some funny corresponding tanned patches though!

Mustbeoriginal38 · 02/04/2017 22:30

Can't stand them either. I don't see the point. If you are going to go to the bother of wearing a long sleeved shirt/top why would you want cold shoulders.

One of the office girls at the school I work in was wearing what appeared to be a lovely shirt style blouse the other day. Until a closer look revealed it had no shoulders. It just looks daft. Added to the fact she was wearing a pair of totally impractical heeled sandals that she couldn't walk in it just made the outfit seem all the more a bad choice.

DonaldStott · 02/04/2017 22:32

the horror of the body suit front-back wedgie

Omg yes Grin I can remember the feeling of relief after pulling it out of the crevices Grin

MelinaMercury · 02/04/2017 22:35

I got a few cold shoulder t-shirts from Next last summer which I really liked.

I say liked because i still have randomly tanned shoulders in comparison to my pasty upper arms :o

MumW · 02/04/2017 22:35

So glad I'm not the only one who feels like this. Think they look a bit odd.

Sort of see it in summery blouses/tee shirts if you like that sort of thing but winter jumpers? No wonder they're called cold shoulders!

Mungobungo · 04/04/2017 22:55

Omg yes grin I can remember the feeling of relief after pulling it out of the crevices grin

But only for the split second it took for it to slide straight back in again!
Bloody awful

WorraLiberty · 04/04/2017 22:58

There's been lots of threads about hatred for cold shoulder tops these last couple of weeks.

I actually don't mind them, although I don't own one.

I did the first time round though, during the early 80s.

TickettyBoo · 04/04/2017 22:59

YANBU I loathe them - I went into Next too and everything was full of damn holes too! Wtf is that all about!? I feel old 😂😂

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 04/04/2017 22:59

Don't get it either. They just look odd those tops Confused

ohhereweareagain · 04/04/2017 23:00

I hate the style along with padded coats with a built in tight fitting central belt..😆

StrawberryMouse · 04/04/2017 23:01

Gah, everything seems to have random cut outs now or the kind of ridiculously low necklines that require plastic surgery / tape / smaller boobs than mine. I just want a party dress I can wear a normal bra with. Please.

user1471521456 · 04/04/2017 23:02

They are sunburn waiting to happen.

WorraLiberty · 04/04/2017 23:04

I have a suspicion that somewhere in India, there are rows and rows of warehouses that store the actual missing shoulders.

They'll be next season's must have nipple accessories.

You mark my words.

StrawberryMouse · 04/04/2017 23:06

I also don't understand those sleeveless coat things. Have seen a few on the school run and been baffled. Grin
