My dd went to a 3rd bday party today invite said from 12-2 was themed and fancy dress

Turned up at 12.00 and birthday child wasn't there and didn't turn up until 1 as parents had hired a themed vehicle for the child to arrive in and as it happens they went for a drive around the local area in said car.

So 25 kids were hanging around waiting for the party to start as no games/music/drinks etc could start as birthday child wasn't there

Luckily it was in a community centre and there was a slide for the guests to play on

Aibu to think that this should have been planned better and you shouldn't be an hour late for your own party

Obviously you YANBU, how weird and rude of them. I'm surprised people didn't leave to be honest, I wouldn't have waited with my kids for an hour

The child's grandparents and extended family were all there waiting too

To be fair the child's grandma was desperately trying to get updates on their location and trying to find stuff to entertain the children

What reason apart from showing off up fashionably late did the parents give? Did they apologise?

My dd is only 2.5 and was so excited to go to her friends party with the added bonus of being her fave character so she wouldn't have left

25 guests?? Themed vehicle?? An hour late?? There used to be a programme on telly about the spoilt overindulged children of mega rich parents having birthday parties - sweet 16 or something? It reminds me of that.

Apocalypse- it's not unusual for a child's party to be like this ime. My dd has never been an hour late or arrived in a vehicle to her parties but we spend a decent amount on her parties so that neither here nor there it's the hour late I'm 😳 at as I expect my dd to be waiting to greet her guests

Shy- they only said they'd decided on a detour as the child was having fun

No another vehicle to match there theme of the party it was a replica from a film, he arrived with a team of actors as his crew

2 weeks ago a friend asked to borrow a pirate outfit for her son - no problem, DS never wears it. Then she invited DS to her son's 5th bday party - gratefully accepted. Fancy dress, in a park with a huge pirate boat climbing/slide contraption.

Can you see where this is going? DS was the only Superman in a sea of pirates at the pirate-themed birthday party.

Still, he was easy to pick out of 50 kids

Sounds like potential spoilt brat terratory in a couple of years.
They were rude and selfabsorbed.
Who are we kidding these kind of things are less about the kid enjoying their birthday and more about parents trying to show off and be parent of the year.

I once went to the party of a little girl whose mum is famous (in a Katie price kind of way for having lots of cosmetic surgery) and she turned up having ridden through the village on a horse, there was a live band and a hog roast and everything!

They are actually really nice people but do like publicity!

Imperial - birthday parties are big in our circle this seriously isn't the bit that shocks me.

I've never hired/or intend to hire a vehicle and crew of actors for my dd but we spend on venues and party bags
