My dd went to a 3rd bday party today invite said from 12-2 was themed and fancy dress

Turned up at 12.00 and birthday child wasn't there and didn't turn up until 1 as parents had hired a themed vehicle for the child to arrive in and as it happens they went for a drive around the local area in said car.

So 25 kids were hanging around waiting for the party to start as no games/music/drinks etc could start as birthday child wasn't there

Luckily it was in a community centre and there was a slide for the guests to play on

Aibu to think that this should have been planned better and you shouldn't be an hour late for your own party

Alexandra87 · 25/03/2017 21:34

liftthatup · 25/03/2017 21:35

Nicpem1982 · 25/03/2017 21:37

Expat - I'm not sure if any one left there were a few people there so I didn't notice

I can't publicly say the vehicle as it would out me for sure

I'm beginning to think you're either someone with a very active imagination or you just live in a parallel universe where everyone is a total tit. You seriously post every week with a new story of a parent who has done something ridiculous.

Nicpem1982 · 25/03/2017 21:43

Pop cakes- actually my last threads we're asking for advice regarding a suicide in the family and asking for advice on helping my 4 year old niece who's struggling with the loss of her mom

Oh before that it was when we built dds mudkitchen I wanted ideas and prior to that it was recommendations for tools to teach fractions

So pretty bog standard I think - no parallel universe or over active imagination

More retro than Bumblebee?! For a 3 year old? Are you sure this wasnt all for the dads benefit?

MaisyPops · 25/03/2017 21:55

birthday parties are big in our circle this seriously isn't the bit that shocks me.

the majority of the parties my dd is invited to are not of the "church hall/soft play" variety

If preschoolers are used to having massive parties for 'their big day' so their parents can show off to other parents then its hardly surprising that the world must also revolve around said princes/princesses and they can show up late, parents can make a fuss about how 'sophie was simply DELIGHHHTTEED with everythinh so we just HAD to make the most of the ride' undertone: im also an amazing parent who is so responsibe to my childs needs and it also gives a great talking point with other parents once weve finally arrived

Sorry OP but (in a totally judgey mcjudgepants way) your social circle sounds completely obnoxious.

WorraLiberty · 25/03/2017 21:55

Imperial - I can't say what I will be outed

That ^^ did make me laugh, considering how much specific info you've given anyway Grin

I don't imagine there were many 3rd birthday parties today, between 12-2pm that were fancy dress, and the kid turned up an hour late, due to driving around in a themed car Grin

Nicpem1982 · 25/03/2017 21:58

Maisy- they can be obnoxious but they can also be awesome like any one I suppose

I've never been to a party where the bday child was super late

Worral - point taken the kid was in ecto 1

Howlongtilldinner · 25/03/2017 22:04

Can't believe that parents can hire themed vehicles and actors Shock (for a 3yoShock Shock) and not have drinks/snacks or some kind of entertainment (toys n stuff) as you arrived!

Showing off and flashy..heaven knows what the parents will have to come up with at 13..good job they've started trips to the moon..might have to wait longer than an hour next timeGrin

This is pretentiousness at its very worstHmm

GingerLDN · 25/03/2017 22:04

Yeah that's so rude! Was it Scooby Doo?

Bluntness100 · 25/03/2017 22:05

You don't do this, it's rude. You invite guests, you are there to meet them,.End of.....

MaisyPops · 25/03/2017 22:06

Nicpem1982
I was very upfront that the more i read the more i felt my judgey pants coming on. Grin
The lateness is plain rude.
The scale of the parties just leaves me with a mental image of keeping up with the jones. In a few years all the parents will be discussion about tutors and the 11+/private education ajd who has got their child into which selective school.

Yes, im well aware im.stereotyping here but the entire thing tells me more about the parents than the kid.

Nicpem1982 · 25/03/2017 22:07

We all own a pair of judgey pants maisy

Herby?

TheRealPooTroll · 25/03/2017 22:13

Rude but anyone who says they would have left with their excited 2/3 yr old and taken them away from all the other kids and the slide without the party they were expecting having happened really hasn't thought it through is talking bollocks

Only1scoop · 25/03/2017 22:20

Rude and incredibly tacky by the sound of it.
Awful.

Sedona123 · 25/03/2017 22:27

Ecto 1 is the Ghostbusters car I think? Would a three year old have even watched Ghostbusters? Definitely more for the parents benefit then.

Herhighness · 25/03/2017 22:31

Chitty Chity Ban Bang car, I bet.

cherish123 · 25/03/2017 22:35

How odd? Parents are obviously a bit weird! If I was the child's parents I would have skipped the ride around local area. The car may have been late to pick them u from home. In that case, the should have told them to go straight to the party and they could have got refund.
