My dd went to a 3rd bday party today invite said from 12-2 was themed and fancy dress

Turned up at 12.00 and birthday child wasn't there and didn't turn up until 1 as parents had hired a themed vehicle for the child to arrive in and as it happens they went for a drive around the local area in said car.

So 25 kids were hanging around waiting for the party to start as no games/music/drinks etc could start as birthday child wasn't there

Luckily it was in a community centre and there was a slide for the guests to play on

Aibu to think that this should have been planned better and you shouldn't be an hour late for your own party

Jeez I'm glad my DC are grown up.

Biggest party I did was for 5th. Swimming followed by junk food party in sports centre bar.

Shock Shock Shock

If this is real, then I would go so far as to say this isn't the experience most people on MN have of kids' parties.

I bloody hope someone improvised some games for the waiting kids to play, and that you didn't just all sit around waiting for birthday child to rock up.

What the fuck are those parents going to do when their kid hits proper milestones? 10, 13, 18. Bloody hell, when this kid hits 21 they're going to wrap up Planet Earth and give it as a gift, aren't they! Set your countdown clocks, people....

My kids are well past birthday parties but I am always amazed at the timing and the brevity of the parties my DGD go to. In my day parties were 3 - 6 (or thereabouts) and in those days kids were happy with jelly and ice cream, pass the parcel and a bit of running round the house.

My grand kids have been to parties 10 -12 in the morning (very strange) and 12 - 2 and one was 1 - 2 (could not believe that one!) Dunno why they bothered. Are you not worried OP that the mom here might be on MN and there would be no mistake about the circumstances. My 12 year old DGS had a 12th birthday today - and it was a cinema trip, then Nandos, GoKarting and back for birthday cake. Now that's what I call a party!!

Perhaps it was just bad/thoughtless planning...

Everything these days is about social media. No doubt there are lots of lovely photos of birthday child on Facebook now in their themed vehicle; but what about their little friends all waiting to play with the birthday boy or girl. It's a shame

GerdaLovesLili · 26/03/2017 17:10

Fab 1, Parker and all the Thunderbird crew?

Bonkers.

Most likely. With captions like 'This little man #soblessed #happybirthday #howbigishegetting #mylittlelad'.

Parties like this are always more about the parents and their desire for social kudos than the kid (who'd be quite happy playing with his friends)
