To ask what YOU do on Mothers Day?

What do you do? Do you visit both sets of parents (in laws and your own?) whilst celebrating the day as a mum yourself with your own children? Do you spend it just with your partner and children? Do you take it in turns each year with where you spend it?

My own mum lives to far away to visit for the day, but a card and flowers are always sent. I 💜 my mum!

DS is 6, so it will (hopefully) a cuppa and a snuggle in bed, whilst he makes his way through the box of maltesers DP always gets me.

Then just a normal day!

Nothing at all, both our mothers are dead have been for ages so it's no big deal. Seems to cause more trouble than its worth.

The last couple of years I've gone with my DCs, my DM and DF for a light lunch out (DF paying). This year I'm having my parents over here for lunch with me and my DC - this will be her first Mothers Day without her Mum as she passed away at the end of January, and potentially may be the last with my DF as he's been given a terminal cancer diagnosis.

Whatever we do, it's always laid back and relaxed and not a 'fuss' - we're quite a close family anyway, Mother's Day is in many ways just another day, though there will be a nice bouquet of flowers headed Mum's way!

My mum is no longer with us but DH's is. I'm cool about sharing a nice day with both of them & DS.

Dh will get over to visit mil at some stage over the weekend. I visit but not the once or twice a week visits he does.

We are going out as a couple sat night and I will visit my mum briefly Sunday morning and fancy a shopping trip in the afternoon.

Have dinner with my side of the family, the in laws are in Australia ( thank god)

That sounds nice. Last year I spent it with both sets of parents this year I'm having to do the same. I wanted to do it different this year and go out for the day if the weathers nice, just the 4 of us and have some quality time rather than rushing about squeezing in visits like we do each year.

Send a card to my Mum, make sure I remind DH in time for him to buy and send one to MIL. On the day, nothing particularly planned after opening card from DD. Last year it so happened we were out geocaching, it rained on our picnic and then it snowed. In March!

We go to my mums, my husband takes the kids to his mums (although she's on holiday this year) for a bit, we all faff about my mums - drinking coffee, bickering, looking up nonsense on the internet. Then my dad orders a big takeaway for an early dinner.

I'm doing roast for friends and their 4dsc. It was the in,y date we could manage for months!

My advice to everyone is marry an Australian, in law issues are a long way away

I get a hand made thing from the kids. Possibly some flowers. I go and visit my mum with kids.

That's about it. It's not a special day in our house.

Just a normal Sunday but I get a card (DH cooks everyday!)

We deliver cards and presents on the Saturday to the mums (nans). Then on the actual day we stay at home. I do nothing all day.
It's bloody lovely.

Normal day then visit the mums.

I loathe Mother's Day, a pile of over hyped bollocks.

I've always told my kids to ignore it, I don't expect a card, flowers or chocolates.

Dh will buy his mum a plant and a card but it's an average Sunday chez Diego.

I always take a jolt prior mother's day when I remember that I do not have to dash out and get a gift as my mother is dead.

My own Mum lived too far away to visit but I always sent a card and gift, while I was married we usually took MIL and widowed SIL out to lunch on the day.

Now DS lives a long distance away, but sends a card and gift.

This year for the first time, I'm going to make myself a proper afternoon tea, with French Fancies, cucumber sandwiches and a glass of fizz!

MIL lives away so won't be visiting I will see my mum on Sat. Both will get card and flowers and a phone call on the day. Usually we do nothing. This year I plan on a little lie in, having brunch I will plan menu and buy ingredients beforehand and kids (12 & 13) will cook it supervised by DH and we will all hopefully have a leisurely family day out without arguments in Keswick in the lakes just the four of us and our dog.

Dp is taking me and dc out for dinner can't wait

We go out for brunch then a walk in our local forest, just DH, me and the DC. We used to do the same as you OP, when I had my second DC I decided to put myself first. It was hard because it put everyone's nose out of joint but they seem to have accepted it now. I send a card and flowers to both my DM and my DMIL.

Ow that's a good idea prosecco and cake when we get back.

Every year for the past 10 years, I've spent Mothers Day watching DS2 play football.

Lucky me, eh?

I make a fuss of my mum - I buy her first class train tickets to visit me in London and we do something like the theatre and cocktails or a touristy day out and afternoon tea. This year we're going to see the Lion King at the Lyceum and then some drinks in the Shard. She always tells me not to spend so much money on her, but I am where I am in life because of her, what I've achieved is largely her doing.

I could do it any weekend of the year, and generally go to visit my parents at least once a month anyway, but life gets in the way of doing big stuff, I suppose. Mothers' Day is a very welcome jolt which reminds me how much I love her and just she won't be here forever.
