To ask what YOU do on Mothers Day?

What do you do? Do you visit both sets of parents (in laws and your own?) whilst celebrating the day as a mum yourself with your own children? Do you spend it just with your partner and children? Do you take it in turns each year with where you spend it?

Mother's Day is a bit up and down for me! Not everyone has a decent mother - mine is a total car crash and have been nc for 5 years now. Still doesn't make it easy though I always feel sorry for my children my dd twins have no idea about her and my ds still asks about her. All very sad. Dh mum is ok so we will nip and see her. We are fairly busy though tmz as it's swimming lessons and then a party at a play center. Looks like I won't get a lie in not that I ever do anyway!!!! Wink

Ragwort · 25/03/2017 08:24

No big fuss - I have sent my DM a card and will phone her, we meet once a week anyway so don't make a special effort to see her on Mothering Sunday - she is as busy as I am. MIL deceased.

DH and DS have offered to cook a meal might go out for a walk with DH if weather is nice, otherwise a normal Sunday - Church, chores and relaxing Grin.

IAmHumanAndINeedToBeLoved · 25/03/2017 08:25

NC for 5 years with my mother too.

So I shall have a quiet celebration in my head of the fact that she's no longer an issue for me.

I think the children and I going to walk down to a little nearby farm shop cafe for breakfast, and then their dad is picking them up for the day.

Won't be any cards or presents. Don't do any of that nonsense.

pipsqueak25 · 25/03/2017 08:34

nothing, don't see the point tbh, why make a fuss for one day Confused, shouldn't it be an every day respect and affection thing ?
but i know a lot of mums will lay the guilt trip on of they don't get shed loads spent on them and tomorrow evening there will be plenty of whinging on here too ! Grin

Crispsheets · 25/03/2017 08:38

I will probably go to an over 21 wine bar for lunch and then the cinema, avoiding all the families in restaurants with their Mothers Day menus.

LadyFlumpalot · 25/03/2017 08:38

Nothing really. Normally I'd pop over and give my mum a card, did that yesterday this year as she's going away today. DH may or may not remember to get me something from the kids. I shouldn't think he's remembered to send his mum anything. I probably sound really callous, but it's not a day any of us really celebrate, other than a quick hug and a "Happy Mothers Day" in passing.

AuditAngel · 25/03/2017 08:42

I have to take DD1 to karate at 9, then drop DH to work (he can't drive at the moment after a skiing accident in January) drop DS and DD2 to a dancing dress rehearsal, dump them with other mummies while I dash to collect DD1 from karate then back to dress rehearsal.

We have MIL coming over in the evening. To be honest, I am getting fed up that DH has 3 brothers (2 locally) and yet every year I do not get a choice about what happens on Mother's Day as it is all about his mum.

Don't get me wrong, I love my MIL, she is fantastic, but after 12 years of kids it is about time DH realised his mum has 4 sons, his children have 1 mum

BadKnee · 25/03/2017 08:44

Nothing. The kids wish me a Happy Mother's Day with a smirk before demanding breakfast. We laugh at the commercialization of it. I sometimes remember to say it to Mum when I phone but it makes no difference either way. My kids are either good or not, they love me, I love them. Nothing else needed.

gracielooloo · 25/03/2017 08:49

SooperdooperFlowers
Hope things improve for you.

esiotrot2015 · 25/03/2017 08:52

I'm working Sad
Hopefully will get something nice before I go but as I leave the house at nine it seems unlikely !

Eolian · 25/03/2017 08:55

I send my mum some flowers. Dc will have got or made me a card, might get some flowers too. Otherwise a totally normal day.

SellMySoulForSomeSleep · 25/03/2017 08:58

Working. Then hopefully home to tea being cooked by DH and toddler cuddles.
DH will go round to his parents while I'm working and I'm taking my mum out for lunch on Monday instead.

elQuintoConyo · 25/03/2017 08:59

For my DM nothing as we are very LC.

For me i get a card made by my son and nothing else. I don't like cut flowers, I have no need for gifts and more stuff. There is a lot of love in our house everyday so I know I am appreciated.

I'm abroad and it was Father's Day last Sunday, DH got a handmade card and a cake - covered in chocolate frosting looked like a heart-shaped poo Grin

We make more fuss for birthdays.

Juanbablo · 25/03/2017 09:03

My own mother died a long time ago so I visit my grandmothers. Actually I will visit one grandmother today and one tomorrow as she lives near my mum's grave and I would like to lay some flowers for her.

We've just moved house and are decorating and laying new flooring so tomorrow will definitely not be about me or stress free. Next year, hopefully!

Ojoj1974 · 25/03/2017 09:04

Absolutely nothing. Might get a card if the kids made one at school, DS has a hockey tournament and DH will take him. I will be at home with DD. Tototally normal day in our household. I sent my mum a card and flowers. MIL isn't interested in it....
However, I would love to get dressed up and taken out to lunch at Limewood House.....
Actually I think I'm going to book a table for two for my DD and me.

Livelovebehappy · 25/03/2017 09:13

I avoid overpriced restaurants, and avoid buying equally overpriced flowers. Normally give both mothers their gifts the day before and a quick call on the phone on Mother's Day, otherwise it tends to be business as normal. My DD (and sometimes my DS!) give me gifts, which I accept graciously as they enjoy doing it, but I'm in the camp that hates days like Mother's Day and Valentine's Day etc; you should think of your mother every day just by being kind and thoughtful and loving, and not just dedicate one day to being thoughtful.

Susiesue61 · 25/03/2017 09:14

I will get a lie in and breakfast, with cards and presents (apparently picked by the boys this year Grin ) DH will take Ds1 to football. Then I'll take DD to cricket training and we're going to MIL's for dinner -FIL is in hospital. I will drink wine and not help at all and it will be lovely!
My mum is miles away. I have sent flowers and the card is in my handbag

mogloveseggs · 25/03/2017 09:16

Church with dcs and dm. Then sometimes lunch out with pil (sometimes just dh and ds go). This year I'm working most of day.

Greenkit · 25/03/2017 09:22

I shall be up at 5 and working till 6pm, then home where my children x 3 will have cooked a roast dinner.

I have invited my mum to my house on Monday and I will spoil her

LexieLulu · 25/03/2017 09:29

My mum died a few years back, my husband will pop round to see his mum but I won't go with.

He tries to make Mother's Day special for me instead. I have two babies (age 3 and 10m), so well spend it together, probably go for a long dog walk etc.

We are going to go for a Sunday roast in a pub, but I've asked to do this the following week as I hate busy pubs.

I find the day a bit over rated (like Valentine's Day), but purely cause my mum isn't here we make a little fuss

corythatwas · 25/03/2017 09:31

MIL sadly died last year and my mother is too far away to visit.

gamerwidow · 25/03/2017 09:35

It's mostly a normal day but with cards and a bunch of flowers in the morning Grin I usually do something with my mum on the day but this year she wants to go for pie and mash so I'm taking her today instead because it's not open tomorrow. We never see my MIL because she lives too far away but if she was closer I'd visit her too because she's great! I'm happy to share the day with my mum and mil because we're all mothers together.

HollySykes · 25/03/2017 09:39

Cup of tea and some cards etc in bed then Dh will go and see his DM, later in the day we're going for a late lunch just us and the kids.

Bananamanfan · 25/03/2017 09:44

I hate mothers day. We will be at my ILs where will be making an unpleasant breakfast (varieties of pork mainly, I'm veggie) & will go over to my parents where my sisters & i will cook for my mum.
As well as all of the meal preparation, it's the pressure of being cheerful (& grateful) all day that makes me itch to be really badly behaved.

Emboo19 · 25/03/2017 09:46

It's my first Mother's Day as a mum, so hopefully the start of new traditions. Usually me and my dad would make breakfast for my mum, I'm still living at home and my boyfriends staying here, so him and my dad are making breakfast this year.

Ive then booked lunch for my parents, both sets of grandparents and my boyfriends mum and his grandparents. Thinking of going for a walk after lunch, depending on the weather!

I know a lot of people see it as a Clinton cards holiday or that you should appreciate your mothers all year, which of course you should.
But I always loved Mother's Day as a child, me and my dad planning what to do for mum. It's never been about expensive gifts, but we'd always make the effort to make or do something she'd appreciate.
I'm just hoping my dad's given the boyfriend some tips for me!!
