To criticise DHs homemade shoe rack?

I feel awful, he's just huffed off.
He's just made this shoe storage thing for our v small hallway. I wasn't keen on the colour or style really but didn't want to criticise him when he was actually doing something helpful for once. My only criteria was it must not be too big.

Now he's finished and put it in...and it's too big.
It's very helpful to have but leaves very little space coming up and and down the stairs imo. Or am I nit picking?

Wishiwasmoiradingle2017 · 10/03/2017 20:03

Do you have a dc with only 1 foot op??

Shoedisaster · 10/03/2017 20:03

THis one might give a better idea of the lack of space

Oh those cutie little shoes!

It doesn't leave too much space really, does it. Sad

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 10/03/2017 20:04

Aww it looks like he's made a decent job of it, I was expecting a monstrosity! Smile

Not a great place for it though, it does seem to leave very little space at the bottom of the stairs. Could it go against the other wall (So blocking only part of the stairs) or elsewhere (front door, under the stairs, utility, behind kitchen door?)

ChampagneSocialist1 · 10/03/2017 20:05

I see what you mean about it getting in the way. Could he tilt it forwards towards the wall to give more space

Petalbird · 10/03/2017 20:05

It does look too big unless you have some really big shoes that are not on there. Could have also done with being rounded at one end so you have more walking space

ligersaremyfavouriteanimal · 10/03/2017 20:05

I agree it looks tight, though a nice looking cabinet. Is there anywhere else it could fit?

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 10/03/2017 20:05

Xpost with the second picture. It is quite massive!

TheUnicorns · 10/03/2017 20:06

I think it's fine personally. Looks like he's done a good job too, I'd be quite happy with that!

WhereYouLeftIt · 10/03/2017 20:06

Thst does create a bit of a pinch-point. Is it worth running a book on when he'll bang his own knee on it coming down the stairs too fast? Put me down for Thursday morning Grin.

Shoedisaster · 10/03/2017 20:06

Wishiwasmoiradingle2017 how bad would you feel if I did?! I don't fwiw Grin

He has worked hard which is why I feel bad for criticising. It's just pretty big isn't it.

ParadiseCity · 10/03/2017 20:07

I was expecting a really shite thing but that is good! I could live with that and I'm sure you'll get used to the space. I have similar amount of space due to shoe thing and it's better than shoes lying about.

PragmaticWench · 10/03/2017 20:08

Could he take two inches off the entire back of it?

Nospringflower · 10/03/2017 20:08

It looks great even if it takes up a lot of space.

outabout · 10/03/2017 20:09

It looks about the right dimensions for adult size shoes. Perhaps a compromise is to actually use it somewhere else as being so close to stairs is not good anyway?
Looks quite smart though.

Shoedisaster · 10/03/2017 20:09

Oh shit I've just ripped one of the top bits off trying to move it! It's not the most sturdy Confused

Phalarope · 10/03/2017 20:09

It's huge. There will be a lot of shin-banging. But I think you probably have to be more grateful for it. Sorry.

(I would be doing ungrateful nitpicking about the design - isn't it just going to rapidly become some shelves of mud? I thought shoeracks were a bit more open and ventilated)

Crumbs1 · 10/03/2017 20:11

I feel sorry for men sometimes. If you wanted something specific and knew you wouldn't like is effort, why did you not make it yourself? You're being mean.

BettyBaggins · 10/03/2017 20:12

Grin Grin

Well that'll make it easier for him to lop a few inches off then. Tbh it looks good but yup I can see there are going to be bruises on knees. Bless him eh!
