Would you trust two 5 year olds with this?

So we've recently gotten a nice sofa bed for the living room. My 5 year old is desperate for a sleepover now with her friends. She shares a room with her brother and there wasn't really room or comfortable enough makeshift beds before. But it would mean there would be nowhere for me to sleep comfortably downstairs with them. My daughter is sensible for her age and will come to me if there's any problems but the idea of leaving two little ones downstairs makes me a little anxious!

Put her and her friend in your bed and you (and dp if there is one) take the sofabed.

I wouldn't have a five year old for a sleepover in the first place unless it were an emergency of some kind!

But if I did, then either I'd put them up in the room complete with big brother (assuming not a huge age gap), or else I'd make a big deal of training them with the new sofa bed, then I'd leave all doors to kitchen firmly closed, wedge the sitting room door open, my bedroom door open too, and dig out the baby monitor.

Our bedroom is even more of a no go as it has dhs very expensive office in that he has to use for work. Looks like we'll be delaying the sleepovers for a little longer then :(

Tbh 5 is too young imo for a sleepover. Mines been for one and its not somethinf ill be repeating or reciprocating for a while. She is too young.

Me and the mum of said friend are very close, as are the girls so I know she feels comfortable with me. My daughter has been to hers for a sleepover and they were absolutely fine. Didn't think they were too young at all, and we only live down the road from each other.

Unless it's a close relative or family friend, I wouldn't do sleepovers so young.

How old is her brother? Could he sleep downstairs or in with you for the night so DD can have sleepover in her room? My DS is 5 and has had sleepovers with friends whose parents are also my friends so I don't think she is too young, but wouldn't be happy to let a 5 year old sleep downstairs without an adult.

For me and my family the girls sleeping downstairs would be totally fine - what does everyone think will happen?

What specifically worries you about downstairs? Getting out the front door? Mucking about in the kitchen?

Honestly, chitofftheshovel honestly fuck knows what would happen if I left 5yo dd and either of her naughty lovely best friends downstairs all night but I guarantee something would happen

That sounds like I'm saying it's just her friends who are the naughty ones, I'm not, dd is just as terrible as they are!

Her brother is 2. He could come in our room I guess but he's hard enough to settle as it is without disrupting his sleep. But I'm sure it'll be fine for one night :)

I don't think it's too young and the only reason I wouldn't do it is because of potential mess on my brand new sofa!

Just out of interest, for those worried bout the 'downstairs' aspect of this...is there something to stop children creeping downstairs while you sleep normally?

For a while before opening this thread, I tried to think of ANYTHING I'd trust two five year olds with Couldn't think of anything tbh.

If you know the child and mum well, 5 is not too young for sleepovers (reciprocal babysitting). Downstairs is also fine, as long as both children feel happy and safe.

Children you don't know so well, leave it a few years.

All our bedrooms are downstairs. We are doomed lol!

I would bring ds in with you and/or you/dh sleep on sofa bed if 3 is cramped

Or I would have been fine with either of mine as 5yo on sofa bed other than the lounge being out of bounds from 8pm so would prefer one of the solutions above
