To go to the cinema on my own?

DD's away with her dad and DP will be out this evening so I'm at a lose end. I could ask a friend to go with me but I'm a bit flat and not great company. I really want to see Lion and tonight's a good opportunity. Would it be really sad to go on my own?

I used to go every week on my own - glass of wine, bag of choc. Fabulous. So relaxing.

Nope, I sometimes go on my own- last film I went to see alone was Manchester by the sea. Apparently Lion is a real weepy though (so I was told. . . )

Not sad at all. I often went to the cinema, theatre and the opera on my own.

This is one of my favourite things to do and I haven't had a chance to since I've had DC. Bucket of popcorn, sit at the front away from most other people, legs stretched out. Bliss!

I used to love going to cinema on my own. Definitely do it.

I don't understand why people feel like going on their own is a big deal. Of all the social things to do, logically it's the best on your own. It's not like you can talk to anyone once you're in there.

I know what you mean Purple but I do like to dissect a film after watching so that's generally where the social bit comes into it for me.

I've been several times on my own. Usually to see a big blockbuster but the great thing is about going in the daytime is that it's relatively quiet and no queues. If you went 8pm the same day, it'd be bedlam!

We went to see Moana this weekend and along with all the families, there was a middle aged woman on her own and 2 middle aged men! It'll be fine!

Why would it be unreasonable?

You sit in the dark and face forwards and don't talk.

It's the ideal activity to do alone.

Definitely go! Perfectly normal to go to the cinema on your own. I think it just feels a bit odd if you're not used to it - I used to feel like that about eating out but now I travel with work I'm happy to dine/cinema etc by myself. It's not like you can chat about it whilst the film is on - and you can come back here and give us your review after!

I have been on my own quite a lot especially if no on else wants to see what I do. Doesn't bother me but used to amuse me at a cinema I used to go to (now gone) when there were few other people there and someone always sat right behind me!!! No numbering on tickets, you could sit wherever you liked.

My local cinema used to give a 20% discount for single tickets on a Monday evening. I lived in a southern coastal town at the time and I believe it was a good way to encourage pensioners to go to the movies. I used to go most weeks.
Not sure if it still happens...

I went on my own for the first time a year ago. I now love it and actively look for films DS and DH won't want to watch.

I saw Jackie a couple of weeks ago and I would say over half the audience (is that the word I want? It feels wrong...) were there alone. Do it!
