That on Monday a Mum brought her sick child who was off, to school whilst...............

she picked up the older sister? But..........

I know she had to bring the younger one as she couldn't leave her at home on her own. She is in my DD's class. But, instead of standing at the gate and waiting to pick up her older Daughter, she came and stood with us outside yr 1's classroom whilst we waited for our children to come out

Then the little girl told us she had been sick lots and the mum said " and shes onto her 4th pair of trousers"!!!!!!!!

Then the little girl (6) went up to my friends 20month old in her pram! My friend asked politely if she could maybe just kept away

I am so puzzled. The child is still off today. So why on earth come and stand with us and our little ones when she could have waited at the gate away from everyone????

TBH you are very unlikely to catch the bug just by standing next to the child, altho if I'd been the mum I wouldn't have let her lean over the pram.

Generally I don't think gastro bugs are airborne tho.

And I have to say that both the child and her mother may have been wanting a bit of company.
It's very depressing, spending 24 hrs cleaning up sick/poo, and thinking "My god, what has my life become?". Maybe mother just wanted to be one of the human race again.

I am sure there cant be many of us that would want a child who had a very bad tummy bug near are children !!!!

I just think as she wasn't collecting a child from yr 1 there was no need to stand there and she could have stood by the gate as her other chld is a lot older

Do yuo know, I thought before starting this thread and worded it so carefully, re read it and thought there is no way anyone can have a go at me!!!!

The child had bad sickness and diarrhoea, a bit different from nits!!!!!!!!

My child has had nits, she has also had Meningitis, Epilepsy, got Hydrocephalus and was Physically sick in July and went on to have a seizure and be ventilated

so yes, she has pretty much had everything!!!!!!!!!

Muminfife, Obviously if she had no help, she had to bring the younger one to school, but don't see why she had to come and stand with the year 1 Mums and kids

No point passing it round the class

I think I might have been a bit surprised - at our school parents generally keep ill children on their own if picking up siblings and let others know.

Thing is she probably didn't think - had been at home going a bit stir crazy and probably worried and bored as well. Give her the benefit of the doubt.

well I would have done it if I couldnt leave my dd at home

of course she had to bring the ill child to school, I didnt say there was anything wrong with that

But as she was picking up her 10 year old, she didnt need to come down the path to were the yr 1 parents stand and the children come out

she has kept her off school so she doesnt pass round a bad stomach bug, but then brings her down the path to yr 1 to see her friends!

and yes, our chldren are going to get illnesses but you don't put them next to child with a stomach bug and say "Oh it doesnt matter, she will have a bug one day anyway"!!!!!!

Just didnt make sense to me!

surely the sibling at school will also be pssing the bug anyway,sorry don't really have a problem with what she's done,except maybe the peering into the pushchair.

No one is going to get ill from standing next to this kid.

why not send her to school then? She was waiting to see her friends, to go and chat with them as she would at school

so why do you keep your child off with a bug then???

but she might pass it on to her sister anyway.. if it is that easily caught.. i dont think they are that easily caught.

some of these sickness bugs are quite easily caught and passed on. That horrible Nor-whatsit (?) bug is passed from vapour off the poo/sick I believe - although I accept not from just breathing? And it's incredibly potent. But then maybe I am biased since I have a sick-phobia and having my children vomit over me/near me etc. is one of my worst nightmares.

her sister is in the junior part of school anyway, but you don't keep away from some one just in case they are going to get ill, thats a bit different

How is it spread?
Tummy bugs caused by a virus are spread by droplets breathed out through the nose and mouth or by your hands. Tummy bugs can also be caused by bacteria and can be spread by eating and drinking contaminated water or undercooked food, or by poor hygiene, like not washing your hands after going to the toilet or before eating. It can also be passed by direct contact from person to person.

so it can be spread by her going up to her friends and chatting and playing with them (I know Im sad doing research!!!!! Im bored lol)

anniebear I think you are getting a hard time. But I think if she had thrown up 4 times that day it would have caused quite a bit of disruption in Y1, leaving aside the infection issue.

you keep your child off with a bug as they are too poorly to cope with a full day at school

bugs go around

someone could sneeze on you at the supermarket

simply NOT a big deal IMO

well obviously she had to keep her off anyway. (I got the impression the trousers weren't changed coz of sick!!!)

She must have been quite bad as I thought she would have been back in school today but she isn't

I am beginning to think I am being OTT, but then the other Mums looked shocked when she was telling us about her Daughters very bad bug whilst her Daughter was playing with their Chrildren!!!!!!!!!!!!

actually, luckily for her, she didnt seem terribly ill with it and was playing with the younger children, maybe she had brightened up in the afternoon

anniebear, I'm with you totally. I understand totally that we might catch something out and about/in the supermarket etc., but why put other people at risk from catching a bug when you don't have to?

yes! of course you can catch anything anywhere

But you don't deliberately let you sick Daughter go and play with little ones and then wait for her friends to come out, when all she had to to was stand 30 seconds away at the gate

let's face it the bigger sister will be incubating it by now

so they're all stuffed anyhoo

maybe there is some plastic space-type suit we can buy for these occasions
