SanFran you could have bloody warned us!!!!!😁

FlyMeToTheMoonLiterally · 05/02/2017 22:18

Has anyone seen this? Very funny

TheClaws · 05/02/2017 22:21

OMG, SanFran. I wasn't sure that was even human. Ta so much Wink

amispartacus · 05/02/2017 22:23

It's interesting that he's focusing on this issue so much. I would have thought that the economy was the biggest thing to focus on and talk about...

He's placed himself in a win-win with that tweet
yes but his tactics are laughably transparent, plus he's so sulky and defensive, how can he expect anyone to treat him with any respect whatsoever?

woman12345 · 05/02/2017 22:30

Ginger do you mind if I post that Munich post article on another thread?

Formerpigwrestler9 · 05/02/2017 22:32

twitler is funny, I think I like so-called president best right now though

maggiethemagpie · 05/02/2017 22:32

It's interesting comparing the trump tweets with all the replies saying 'you're a loser' 'national embarrassment' etc with the Obama ones pre inauguration, even when people don't agree with Obama the tone is so much more respectful. But then Obamas not posting stupid shit about the 'bad people being happy' and the like.

Trump supporters are saying 'well when Obama did xyz no one cared (somthing vaguely similar to something Trump is doing at first glance but not when you really look in to it), but everyone is slating Trump for it....

Well yes. Because Trump is a twat and Obama wasn't.

PacificDogwod · 05/02/2017 22:33

His supporters lap it all up though, transparent or not... Hmm

FlyMeToTheMoonLiterally · 05/02/2017 22:39

I think that Trump's dumbed down language will actually aid his downfall, I think the people who swung it for him were very reluctant and probably only voted for him because they always voted Republican and couldn't bear to vote Democrat, but they think he was a poor choice and his dumbed down language plus disrespect for the legal system is going to make them dislike him even more

merrymouse · 05/02/2017 22:48

Why Trump might regret his tweets.

amispartacus · 05/02/2017 22:49

If something happens, I would blame the person who carried it out.

IF that person was influenced by Trump and it was carried out ON Muslims or judge, then Trump has American blood on his hands.

I dunno, FlyMe, I hope you are right. I worry that what many people are looking for are (seemingly) Easy Answers, Simple Truths, America Great Again - without any kind of differentiated analysis on how anything is to be achieved.
He's a demagogue, although I suspect he actually believes in his own Greatness.

Dictatorship 101

Life is more complex than 140 characters.

OP posts:
PacificDogwod · 05/02/2017 23:08

Indeed.

I like Easy Answers and Simple Truths as much as the next person, but realise that Life tends to be a bit more complex than that.

It's just a shame that this particular apparent dictator seems to have been elected democratically Hmm

Trump. It's like 1984's 'Perpetual War' to control the masses. .

I guess this is a question of whether we still have faith in humanity? I remember reading a post in the EU referendum threads (I've been a long time lurker) about how disappointed the poster was because she thought we were entering a brave new world (not like the book!!) and saw the EU as a coming together of not only cultures but minds and hearts. She saw it as humanity evolving so the fact that Brexit happened made her reassess humanity itself. In the same way voting for Trump seems like hitting the self-sabotage button but the real question is do we trust humanity enough to not follow through with the sabotage project? I mean not everyone who voted for Brexit was a far right hard-liner and I'd be very surprised if everyone was who voted for Trump. So I guess now it's about hoping that the swing voters will see the carnage that's unfolded and be disapproving enough to go to the other side (resist the Dark side! sorry couldn't help but have a Star Wars reference there); and for the Democrats to win back the senate in 2018. Well, here's hoping...

The Star Wars analogy is interesting...the prequels dealt with the Senate and the take over, the rise of the Emperor, the new hope, the Empire Strikes Back (Trump?) - so who will be our Jedi?

acrossthepond - and if we were going to quote the Bible to them (the entire establishment, not just Trump). Pretty much describes exact situation we are facing at the moment.

Habbakuk 2:4

See, he is puffed up;
his desires are not upright-
but the righteous will live by his faith-
indeed, wine betrays him;
he is arrogant and never at rest.
Because he is as greedy as the grave
and like death is never satisfied
he gathers to himself all the nations
and takes captive all the peoples.

Will not all of them taunt him with ridicule and scorn, saying,
"Woe to him who piles up stolen goods
and makes himself wealthy by extortion!
How long must this go on?
Will not your debtors suddenly arise?
Will they not wake and make you tremble?
Then you will become their victim.
Because you have plundered many nations,
the people who are left will plunder you.
For you have shed man's blood;
you have destroyed lands and cities and everyone in them.

Woe to him who builds his realm by unjust gain
to set his nest on high,
to escape the clutches of ruin!
You have plotted the ruin of many peoples,
shamjng your own house and forfeiting your life.
The stones of the wall will cry out,
and the beams of the woodwork will echo it.

Woe to him who builds a city with bloodshed
and establishes a town by crime!

We are one world - but so many different people and views. Sometimes I wish we could have a global event, common experience and maybe a realisation we are not alone in the Universe - so we can pull together.

I do wonder if the future of humanity is going to be like Star Trek.
Remember this speech. I can't see Trump saying it. I could imagine Obama saying it

"Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind. “Mankind.” That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can’t be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it’s fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom… Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution… but from annihilation.

We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to live on! We’re going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!”

www.google.co.uk/amp/www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/02/13/trumps-radical-anti-americanism/amp?client=safari

America has to be about an ideal.

If it isn't about an ideal, it's just an old European colony where the indigenous population never fought back because too many were killed; where, lacking 'natives' to oppress, they managed to import slaves.

America only transcends that by being the country that believes in something better.
