Breaking News: Pro-Trump protesters are rallying outside of Trump Tower in New York City. @BryanLlenas

woman12345 · 05/02/2017 19:29

Ginger great article, thanks.

GingerIvy · 05/02/2017 19:31

You're welcome. I thought it was very interesting. Scary, but interesting.

On a more amusing note -it looks to be less than 100 people "rallying" for Trump. People just walk by, raise an eyebrow, and walk away.

GingerIvy · 05/02/2017 19:32

And of course - it's only being covered by Fox News. Grin

that's a rather chilling read Ginger

GingerIvy · 05/02/2017 19:40

Kitten - it is. Sometimes it's like shouting into the wind, isn't it?

woman12345 · 05/02/2017 19:41

GingerIvy had family who were in Germany then. The normalisation also impacted on the Jews, as in a relative said of that time, we thought:' How can they do this, we have always lived here.' The reason so so many died, was in part due to this normalisation. Absolute evil cannot be believed. Had a lovely little feisty elegant Granny in law who made it over land to Israel and travelled all the way back to Poland to persuade family still there to leave. They wouldn't believe her on the danger, and didn't survive.

woman12345 · 05/02/2017 19:42

Normalise at your peril, and that goes for here too, although to me the English are even worse at challenging racism and fascism, atm, sadly. Didn't always used to be so supine. (1978 punk rock against racism I was there Grin)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/02/2017 19:43

oh bless! look at their little protest! Isn't it sweet?

BiglyBadgers · 05/02/2017 19:43

I am just reading the article linked from the @LAreviewofbooks. A couple of bits I wanted to highlight so far...

"Hitler used the tactics of bluff masterfully, at times giving the impression of being a feckless Chaplinesque clown, at other times a sleeping serpent, at others yet a trustworthy statesman. The Weimar establishment didn’t know what to do, so they pretended this was normal. They “normalized” him." - sounds familiar

"... the Reichstag Fire was not a Hitler plan to excuse a takeover through martial law. It had indeed been the work of a Dutch man, Marinus van der Lubbe. But Hitler, ruthlessly and savagely, took advantage of it, instituting martial law and crushing electoral democracy. There would have been another excuse. Once in power Hitler was going to go on maximizing it until the “final solution.” - this is exactly what I can see happening here. Just one terror attack and he will go for it.

BiglyBadgers · 05/02/2017 19:45

Sorry, when I said 'here' I ment with the current Trump administration, not in the UK...At least not right now...

GingerIvy · 05/02/2017 19:45

Absolute evil cannot be believed.

And that's it, isn't it? Right there. Surely nobody could be that heinous, so obviously he must not be..... Hmm

Trump seems to be about destroying the middle class: press, culture and the Frank Dodds thing looks like all out financial scam freedom on mc savings and pensions.

You can't have an active political and intellectually engaged bourgeoisie under fascism.

"According to the Highway Patrol, 74% of the 30 domestic violence related homicides in Missouri in 2015 involved a firearm. The American Journal of Public Health said when a gun is present in a case of domestic violence, there is a 500% greater chance of an intimate partner killing his or her partner"
