AIBU in thinking the mess is fine

The house is a mess. It's mostly washing piles drying and colouring books and toys and books, general Christmas debris.

AIBU to say it's FINE. Leave it. It's not killing anybody. Or am I being a lazy cow?

Personally I tidy, I don't like mess, but if uoure happy with it, then it's your home and you can do as you please. Doesn't matter how others behave in their own homes.

I am constantly tidying because I need my own surroundings to be orderly to feel relaxed and calm. It doesn't bother me in other people's homes though and I don't see any problem with leaving it at all if it doesn't bother you. I'm jealous, in fact. Wish I could be more laid back about it.

Christmas debris never killed anyone. My living room looks like an explosion in a toy factory! I think as long as it is not unhygienic who cares! The DC are enjoying slowly working through new toys and that way everything gets played with before we slowly find it a home.

I have lived with mess since Christmas Day but I can't stand it anymore! Have had to tidy main areas except dcs rooms as they keep them how they like. They have to tidy up on hoovering day. Tomorrow will probably be the day I have to clean.
I end up feeling stressed out and overwhelmed if the house is untidy and after that unclean. I'm not sure why as when I was below late 20s I lived in a shit heap.

I hate mess but my children go back to school Tuesday, I'm on m.l so meh it will get done at some point. I bribed my children this morning to help have a quick tidy for a pound each

I try and keep one room orderly, but there is usually a degree of Xmas detritus everywhere else till new year when the tree comes down, mess is part of the holidays !

Can each person take a pile of dry washing upstairs? Colouring limited to one table? Don't worry about the toys for now (or could limit to certain areas).

All Xmas toys are not being put away...they're just on the living room carpet but tidied neatly in the corner when not being played with. We've also got a few boxes here and there that haven't been recycled yet. I don't like a lot of mess but I think everyone is a bit knackered from Christmas and I don't really feel like doing a big clean.

Mess is perfectly fine. Do you want your children to remember you as a mum who spent quality time with them, or a mum who was constantly tidying up?

Its fine!

My house was spotless from 22nd - 25th Dec.

I cleaned again on Christmas night briefly just so I could be totally relaxed in Boxing day lazy mode.

Its descended again now, but I am not spending my entire holiday doing housework! Sod that. I have designated tomorrow morning to the WHOLE family to do a bit of a clear up.

Today I am about to sit down to glass of sherry and a bacon buttie

We have xmas bags of presents in the living room that I'm taking up one by one through out today.

Sounds like my house - so long as there aren't dirty plates festering under the wrapping paper, it's fine. As I read once, no-one says 'I had a great childhood, my mother hoovered every day'.

Of course it's a bit lazy, but that doesn't mean you're unreasonable. What's wrong with being a bit lazy during the holidays?

I can't stand the mess though and shout at everyone to tidy up would whizz round with a plastic bag and shove it all away (to be dealt with later) so I could sit gazing at an oasis of calm with a bit of Christmas cake and a cup of tea.

It was our little boys 1st christmas and my plan was to leave the tree up as long as possible but he got that much stuff for christmas I had it down on the 27th to make room for all of his toys!
It's your house have it how you like bit I always feel I need my house tidy for NYE as my mum always says if it's a mess going into the new year it will be like it all year round

Yesterday my house was really tidy.Today DC are back from their Dads and the place is wonderfully happily trashed.

I wouldn't worry. I always have clean washing piled somewhere.

If it's bothering you maybe pick a room and tidy it so there's one cosy area. I'd wait until close to DCs bedtime though. Pointless otherwise.

Lol Mega except I'm arsing around on here not spending quality time with them. Washing is away and I've cleaned the surfaces in the kitchen and mopped the floor. Lounge, dining area still look like bomb sites only toys, colouring, Christmas baubles and socks, books, pile of DHs crap instead of building debris.

I follow the 'shove it into another room' approach in evening so I can be calm in the lounge.

Although right now I have left house in a right state as I just could not be arsed before I went out. DP is home late tonight. We will have curry and a tidy lounge by the time dp is home. And Dd will have an ella's ready meal for tea and I don't even feel a little bit guilty. Work tomorrow. Xx

I'm fed up with putting things away only for them to be taken out again, fed up of tidying up, washing and washing up, I've resigned myself to live like this until I go back to work on Tuesday

Mess and clutter gets on my wick and I can't relax around it. There is always a pile of ironing ready and waiting here but I managed to get Dc to take xmas toys upstairs from the pile next to tree. The house has been hoovered, dusted and is looking neater. I can relax and have poured a deserving glass of cider.
