To ask how often you drink alcohol?

I really fancied a glass of wine this eve (long day!)

I've realised recently that I'm consuming more wine and some weeks I'll have a glass of wine on 5 or 6 out of 7 nights!!

How often do you all drink and how much?

OP posts:
madein1995 · 30/11/2016 18:11

Normally 2 or 3 but usually about a bottle per drinking session. Been less recently as been working a lot and had less chance to drink. Am off on friday so will prob have a few glasses tomorrow evening

Mrsmorton · 30/11/2016 18:12

Lots of people will tell you that's too much. As a HCP I'll tell you that's too much. However, I'm sitting in bed with a glass of red so...

Try to have some alcohol free days (I think 3 in a row is a good thing). I'm perfectly honest about it being my crutch but am happy to go without if necessary and not feel deprived.

My mother is an alcoholic so I've first hand experience of too much too much.

The answer to your question is too much. But I don't really care.

NickyEds · 30/11/2016 18:12

I drink a lot I think. I drink twice a week normally but will have 3 (small)glasses once and a bottle the other time. Sometimes I'll have more if it's a really big night out.

FuzzyCustard · 30/11/2016 18:13

A glass of wine about twice a year. I'm just not that interested.

DragonMamma · 30/11/2016 18:14

Usually 2 or 3 times a week but a bottle each time although I have been cutting down and not quite finishing a bottle.

This week I've had a glass most nights though, but only the one.

DeleteOrDecay · 30/11/2016 18:14

Literally once in a blue moon. Last time I drank was back in July and before that April.

Elphame · 30/11/2016 18:15

Most nights I'll have a glass or two of wine.

CoraPirbright · 30/11/2016 18:15

Most nights which has kind of crept up on me and I really think its too much. Am now making an effort to go back to what I used to do which is only to drink on a Friday and Saturday evening. I think drinking on two nights out of 7 is pretty good so that is what I will strive for.

Anatidae · 30/11/2016 18:16

The last drink I had was about two years ago, when we were ttc. I had horrific hyperemesis while pregnant, didn't want to drink anyway and then the last year we've been co sleeping and the thought of a hangover is unpalatable. I'm not TT - I probably will drink in the future but I'm fine without it for the foreseeable.
If you think you're drinking too much then why not try to stop for a bit? Not a dry January with a binge after, just stop. Consider yourself a non drinker for a bit? See if you like it.

You'll get a range of answers on here, from people who are TT through to those who drink heavily. There'll probably be a few side arguments about how much is healthy. But really what it comes down to is how it impacts you - if you feel it's too much it probably is.

anyoldname76 · 30/11/2016 18:17

i drink a bottle of wine most Friday and Saturday nights, i sometimes have a small brandy or baileys depending on what weve got in on a week night

grounddown · 30/11/2016 18:18

I drink a bottle of red on a Saturday night when the DC are in bed, I look forwards to it all week and thoroughly enjoy every drop.

I have been through stages where I drink most nights and i could happily sink a glass or 2 each night but I find that alcohol makes me anxious and short tempered if I drink it a few days on the bounce and I hate feeling like that.

HardcoreLadyType · 30/11/2016 18:18

I drink on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday.

Over that period, I will usually have 3/4 of a bottle of wine, and perhaps a sherry or a gin and tonic, so about 8-10 units in all.

TheDisreputableDog · 30/11/2016 18:18

Usually one double G&T Friday and Saturday, occasionally a small glass of wine if I'm out for lunch in the week. Less than in the past, DH has stopped drinking for medical reasons which has probably influenced me to cut down too

SENPARENT · 30/11/2016 18:20

I usually have a beer mid week, share a bottle of wine with DH on Friday and Saturday and sometimes have a couple of drinks on Sunday, but usually try to have 3 dry days per week.

Now Christmas and when we go on holiday - that is another thing entirely...

Wine WineWine Wine Wine Wine hic!

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 30/11/2016 18:22

A (large) glass of wine on a Friday night and a couple of glasses of wine on Sunday evening. We usually go out on a Saturday night and I tend to be the one who drives, so I don't usually drink on a Saturday (my choice). I can't drink during the week as I would be a mess at work the next day - on a Sunday I tend to have two small glasses of wine early in the evening with a large roast dinner. I'm hopeless if I drink after 8pm - I just fall asleep.

Before we had the kids, dh and I often shared a bottle of wine most evenings. I have no idea how we had the stamina, although we were in our 30s rather than our 50s.

Flumplet · 30/11/2016 18:24

A bottle of wine very 6 months or so.
Very few and far between. I have other vices (food).

DamsonInDistress · 30/11/2016 18:24

I have a measured G & T twice a week (35ml jigger). For a good quality gin that amounts to 3 uniots a week. Christmas will be an entirely different matter!

Natsku · 30/11/2016 18:32

I've noticed lately its been more days a week than not but I try to have at least two days without a week. I'm very much using it as a crutch right now as I'm horribly anxious and stressed.

baconandeggies · 30/11/2016 18:32

1 or 2 glasses once a fortnight or so... After a few hours it tends to make my heart race and cause anxiety though recently, if I have any more. odd.

mando12345 · 30/11/2016 18:33

If At home all week then a bottle of wine a week generally, that's six nights a week with one glass, then one night off.

If I've been socialising in the week and have drunk more then I won't drink at home that week.

This works for me as I do like a drink and having experience of family members drinking too much I do set myself limits.

madein1995 · 30/11/2016 18:33

As pp have said though, will be very different over xmas

Lilaclily · 30/11/2016 18:34

I've gone through periods of drinking every night , and now trying to just drink twice a week , Ihave also done 6 months with nothing before

Bertucci · 30/11/2016 18:38

We don't drink mon to thurs but get through a lot over the weekend as we're invariably out or have friends here.

If it wasn't frowned upon, I could easily drink every night!

hyperhypermum · 30/11/2016 18:41

Usually the best part of a bottle of wine on Friday & Saturday nights. If I'm on holiday or it's Xmas or something I will drink more. Occasionally will have the odd glass mid week, contemplating a glass of red now actually as it's freezing and the fire's on.....

ChaChaBlah · 30/11/2016 18:41

One glass of wine on a Friday, another on a Saturday and occasionally a measure of gin at other times. I see it as something for when I am relaxing. If I wasn't breastfeeding I would probably have one a night just because I find being at home with a baby all day hard work and a glass of wine signifies "me time". I look forward to when I can have say 2 glasses of wine in an evening and not worry that I will then have to feed!
