I really fancied a glass of wine this eve (long day!)

I've realised recently that I'm consuming more wine and some weeks I'll have a glass of wine on 5 or 6 out of 7 nights!!

How often do you all drink and how much?

On a typical week I drink on a Friday and a Saturday night and have a bottle over the 2 days. If going out (rare!) I will drink more. And occasionally I will have a glass on a weeknight but that is probably once every few weeks.

JuniDD · 30/11/2016 19:37

Very seldom, although we've recently having a naice bottle every now and again which I'll have one glass out of. I can see it would be nice/easy to have more but I'm not in the habit and trying to lose weight.

PurpleDaisies · 30/11/2016 19:38

Usually a couple of times a week at the most. Mainly either a glass of wine or a gin and tonic.

humanfemale · 30/11/2016 19:40

Used to drink nearly a bottle of wine (or sometimes a whole one) at least twice a week. I stopped and have been sober for 61 days (not that I'm counting!).

Alcohol is such a tricky one to call. I knew I had a problem with alcohol (just wine) even when I only drank half a bottle, two nights a week. I would spend a lot of time thinking and worrying about it, feeling guilty, obsessing, feeling ashamed even though many people would have looked at my quantities and frequency and said there's no problem.

I have friends who drink more than I ever did and clearly have no 'problem' - there is no negative chatter for them and they seem to be able to take or leave it.

PrincessConsuelaTheSecond · 30/11/2016 19:40

I did go through a phase where I pretty much drank every day, 2 glasses of wine and soda. I never used to drink at all really, but it became a habit with a stressful job, not helped that all of my co workers and friends also drank daily. When my DM died it became a source of stress relief.

Now it's 1-2 times a week. I'm much thinner and much healthier for it too!

MalbecAndLindt · 30/11/2016 19:41

Before becoming pregnant, I used to enjoy a couple of bottles over the weekend and was often partial to a whisky. Used to have several alcohol free nights a week. Dislike being drunk but actually do enjoy a glass of wine.

Last time I had a drink was June 17th (day before my BFP) Grin

I actually miss having a glass on the weekend and look forward to being able to have one again next year. Won't be as much as before though, not with a baby in the house. DP rarely drinks.

Lalunya85 · 30/11/2016 19:44

2 nights out of seven, amounts ranging from a couple of glasses of red wine to half a bottle of red wine + g&t + a few drams of whiskey. The latter would be a really big night for me and happens maybe once every couple of months (possibly a bit more now with the festive season approaching).

AcrossthePond55 · 30/11/2016 19:46

Very rarely these days. I used to drink about once a week, a glass or two of wine or a cocktail. But there have been three people in my life that have turned out to be alcoholics and in the past 2 years their drinking has spiraled out of control. Two are now sober, two are not.

It has absolutely put me off drinking. I have a hard time enjoying even a glass of wine because all I can think about when I drink is the way they act when they've been drinking. It makes me sick, literally.

chipsandgin · 30/11/2016 19:46

I talked to a doctor friend a very long time ago when I had a job in the City which involved a lot of client facing socialising (with a lot of endemic drinking) plus had a pretty active social life. He advised two nights a week with no drinking to give my body a chance to recover! I've stuck with that my whole life (apart from long dry spells for pregnancy and BF!).

I don't think it is a big deal at all, but then - like you I don't know many non or occasional drinkers so my view is also skewed am finishing off a bottle of prosecco right now . Might be giving it a bit of a rest in the New Year as am a bit of a fatty right now!

AcrossthePond55 · 30/11/2016 19:47

That should read; But there have been four people in my life

Squiff85 · 30/11/2016 19:49

Some weeks it can be every night, some weeks its 3 out of 7. Its at least a friday & sat though.

PurpleMcPants · 30/11/2016 19:52

Rarely have anything, probably averages out to a drink a month. In the last year I've found I have a condition which is made worse with alcohol but fortunately as I don't drink often it's no problem to avoid it.
DH is the same, never drinks at home and rarely drinks out. He's just brought 4 bottles of wine back from a work thing (Christmas gift) and we both sighed and wondered what to do with them.

Greengoddess12 · 30/11/2016 19:57

Usually 2 glasses a night but do have dry days. Fri/sat/Sun more coukd easily drink a bottle. I wish that I had hangovers or felt bad the next day but I don't and I rarely get drunk.

I agree with you HumanFemale it isn't just about quantity it's attitude as can easily have non drinking days and no way would I drink before 7 pm.

However life is stressful and busy and a glass of wine is my treat. Never smoked or eat lots. No drugs so coukd be worse.

Every woman I know drinks and most more than me.

pieceofpurplesky · 30/11/2016 19:57

Normally only at the weekends. Maybe a glass or two of wine unless I go out and have a bit more.
However my dad arrived today with a bottle so enjoying a midweek glass of red.

Cary2012 · 30/11/2016 20:03

I really want a tumbler of Baileys now, over crushed ice.
And some of those red lindt choccies.

Can easily down a bottle of Prosecco on a Saturday night, and often do. But don't drink rest of the week.

gottaloveascamhun · 30/11/2016 20:17

None at a. I stopped drinking 3 months ago and hardly think about it now. It was hard at first but I realised I didn't need or want it anymore. Waking up with a clear head, losing weight whilst enjoying cakes and saving money are nice too.

BrassicaBabe · 30/11/2016 20:18

Oh heavens. I'm a drunk compared to most of you guys Blush. I drink every night, maybe 2 glasses of wine, with likely rather more on a Friday and Saturday

SilenceOfThePrams · 30/11/2016 20:20

2 glasses of wine and a sherry on a Sunday.

A big glass of baileys knock-off 3 nights a month (period pain).

A glass (ie 1/6th of a bottle) of wine in the evening if I have visitors (so maybe 2-3 weekends a year).

Half a bottle of wine plus baileys when one drinky friend visits (once a year!)

notagiraffe · 30/11/2016 20:20

Right now way too often. Two glasses most nights. But that's unusual. I usually have about two or three glasses a week. Just very stressed at the moment in every direction and so it helps me unwind after work. I know it won't last. When work pressure is over, I'll be back to one or two a week. After Christmas

Greengoddess12 · 30/11/2016 20:22

Brassica you sound like my kind of bird! Smile

ChickenVindaloo2 · 30/11/2016 20:23

None. Ever. Since 20 January 2015.

I used to drink at least two bottles of wine most days. (And hold down a professional job). I was over the limit every morning. On my last binge, I said some unforgiveable things to my parents and smashed up stuff in their house.

Life is much better. Sometimes I dream I had a drink and I'm always glad to wake up.

For anyone struggling, I recommend Alan Carr (not the tooth guy!) - "How to Control Alcohol".

I think there are more and more of us realising alcohol is a false friend. A life without it is really not as hard as you would think.

Usernamegone · 30/11/2016 20:25

Rarely maybe one/two drinks a month when I fancy a drink

trappedinsuburbia · 30/11/2016 20:26

Maybe once or twice a month now and then only a couple. My body really can't tolerate much now and tbh i'd rather have an early night and wake up with a clear head.

GoofyTheHero · 30/11/2016 20:27

5/6 nights out of 7.

BestZebbie · 30/11/2016 20:30

Maybe 3 or 4 single drinks in the last 6-8 months?
I didn't deliberately intend to cut down to that extent - I used to drink (one) spirit+mixer once or twice a week, but stopped completely when I was TTC/pregnant, and never got back into the habit after so long without it.
My last two drinks were the toast at a wedding and a stiff G&T after the day that the baby did a poo in the local swimming pool. :-)
