The standard of baking in this series is the worst since I started watching it, 3 or 4 series ago. However, I have to leave this thread now, as I'll be watching it on iplayer tomorrow!

They are pretty poor Bakers compared to those on previous series.

The pastry was rather disappointing. Definitely a step down from previous years.

I'd eat it, though.

Having a few shoddy pastries amongst the good makes for better TV though doesn't it?

If everybody baked everything to perfection every week it could get a bit boring.

I always assume they've selected an assortment of interesting folk who can all cook a bit, rather than 12/10 (how many were there?) exceptional bakers.

They aren't great bakers... they aren't great tv either. Do you think the producers are trying to make it a bit rubbish for a big comeback next year? I haven't really enjoyed this series as much.

I have a real hankering for a rum baba now though.

I wonder if they are set up to fail, though? They are always rushing, there's clearly not enough time allowed for some things to be actually successful.

I was just saying to my partner, this whole series feels a bit of a damp squib. Not sure if the bakers aren't so good or just subconsciously detaching myself since this is probably the last series I'll watch. Nothing has looked visually appealing tonight...
