So not an Aibu but wanted to see other people's experiences. What's the strangest/funniest substitute you've had delivered with your home grocery delivery? Don't know if I'm allowed to name the shop...

I'll start;

Instead of breast pads I got nappy cream

Instead of pre- made infant first milk I got follow on milk (delivery driver didn't tell me there was a substitute so I'm glad I noticed before giving the baby it)

One of my friends received frozen raspberry cheesecake instead of frozen raspberries

Mateus rose wine instead of a nice bottle of champagne (that was a gift for someone)

A quorn 'steak' slice thing instead of steak

Carbonara sauce instead of curry sauce

Ooh and tinned cherry tomatoes instead of fresh - didn't know they existed!

I recently got a tin of soup instead of a tin opener, to make matters worse it wasn't even a tin with a ring pull.

Hahaha I'd love to know how these substitutes are chosen!

Almond essence instead of vanilla extract. A StarWars light-up Jedi head instead of a StarWars water bottle. The best one was sirloin steak instead of ribeye, obviously at no extra charge 😀

A two litre bottle of Coke instead of a pack of toilet rolls.

I couldn't figure it out either.

Crab sticks instead of crab meat....I refuse to accept that crab sticks even contain any real fish
Newborn nappies instead of size 4 nappies - surely it would make more sense to sub a bigger size, not the smallest size available?!

Vegetarian rolls (higgidy ones with feta and red pepper, they are lush!) and vegetarian quiche and a vegetarian pizza, so you'd have thought there was a clue in there somewhere - replaced respectively with sausage rolls, quiche Lorraine and a meat feast pizza.

Sigh.

I ordered sanitary towels and got sent mens disposable pants

In ordered garlic and herb seasoning and was given chicken nugget breadcrumb coating instead

Ordered sliced sandwich ham and got sent a large pack of pork chops...

I once ordered 5 bananas and 5 big bagged bunches arrived - I refuse to believe that they ran out of loose bananas - they went back. Another time the Mirror was delivered instead of The Telegraph - no thanks. Two recent items I didn't refuse were a whole chicken when I ordered 1 breast and 2 50cl bottles of Amaretto at no extra cost instead of one 70cl bottle

My sister works for a big supermarket and she told me that at her supermarket the subs are chosen by the picker so i dont understand how these can be subs.

Plenty i would struggle with a sub for champagne because i dont drink so dont know much about alcohol. Maybe they didnt have champagne in the store so the person picked whatever was next on the shelf.

I got 5 squeezy mustards instead of 1 tomato sauce. I refuse to believe there wasn't any tomato sauce at all in the store!

Funny subs! Often get meat substitutions for vegetarian food even though I have it noted in my preferences. Some substitutions are just so hard to fathom and it does make you think what on earth was the picker thinking? I ordered cocktail sticks and got cocktail sausages, vegan healthy cake squares and got a nicely filled animal fat gateaux, organic curry powder and got a ready meal chicken curry. I'm sure plenty more than are not just springing to mind. Least me and delivery driver laugh. Only really annoys me if its integral to the order items, ie I'm making a curry and the list is all the ingredients except the curry powder which has been replaced by the chicken curry. Now that annoys me because a key ingredient is missing!! What do I do now with the other stuff esp if fresh n meal planned.

I posted my recent one on here, ordered 200g brie from the deli counter - they delivered 2Kg of brie from the cheese aisle.

Instead of dog poop bags I got pampers nappies. I assumed it was a joke but it's happened more than once so maybe it's a 'computer glitch' suggestion? I tried putting the nappy on the dog, but she was having none of it......

i got wheatgerm bread coated in oats as a substitute for gluten free bread a few weeks later i got a call from my friend who worked in tesco asking me if this was my order (i ordered the same basics most weeks so was highly recognisable) apparently they had no size four nappies and the machine was trying to get her to provide size three! she was double checking my son wouldn't fit in a size three before she override the computer to put a sensible sub in so they can override it but i think her supervisor had to clear it (also a friend)

Apparently the hand scanner offers suggested alternatives and they have to choose one. Obviously the algorithm isn't great and the feedback isn't fine tuned.

I had a no substitute for the whole milk I wanted. Couldn't believe they didn't change size or type!

As in I just git "no suitable substitute" on the paperwork and nothing sent. Other things in the order were substituted though.

Quorn shepherds pie substituted with normal shepherds pie

A kids toothbrush for toothpaste. To apply with a finger presumably. A birthday cake for my brother with a chocolate brownie pudding thing that had to be heated in the oven.

Also 180 dishwasher tabs (2x90) with 144 (2x72) for the same price.

I got ibuprofen instead of paracetamol last week. Had to send it back as can't take ibuprofen. I did ask the driver if they couldn't have just sent a different brand of paracetamol? Most substitutes I get are just a different brand or different size of pack to what I've ordered.
