to keep quiet about this or should I tip her off?

Work colleague / friend is getting married on the the weekend, big do costing a fortune at a popular high end venue. I've just found out via a family member that the venue was inspected by environmental health last week and scored 0 - urgent action required. Head chef has apparently already gone, possibly sacked. The score has not yet been published on the food standards website but due to the nature of the venue there is no doubt it will be big news when the story breaks as they host a national team
I don't want to say anything but I am worried that if the story breaks a day or two before the wedding then it's going to be worse than if she found out now and had time to talk to the venue and seek reassurance.
On the other hand it could take longer than a week for the news to break by which time she will be married and away on her honeymoon!
Does anyone have any experience of how long it takes for the score to be published after the date of inspection?

Keep quiet and hope the venue get their act together before her wedding. It's too late to change venue now so no need to cause her distress when she might not need to know.

Usually if it's rated that bad they will be given a set time (a few days, possibly a week) then have re inspection.

Possibly not even allowed to operate in that time.

Depends on what it is.

Oh no that sort of thing would really bother me if I was a guest. I'd want to bring my own sandwiches. Can you ring environmental health and ascertain if it's going to be shut down. Wild horses couldn't make me eat at a place scoring below 3. And that's at a push.

They are still operating, score is official and EH are closely involved. I would hate for her wedding day to be tainted by the story breaking a day or two before. I'm just going to have to keep my fingers crossed for her!

I'm a guest but I'm not worried - now that it has been inspected and the issues highlighted it will probably have the cleanest kitchens in the area by Saturday! I know that not everyone will see it this way............it's appalling that this should have bee allowed to happen in such a venue, they have numerous functions rooms, and have multiple weddings at weekends. When you pay top end prices you should be able to expect top end standards.

The reasons for the 0 are irrelevant really - the issue is that it's going to be a big news story and take the shine off her lovely venue, many of the guests may not want to attend if they hear it on the news the day before. Lots of gusts are staying there for two nights and making a weekend of it (and it doesn't come cheap).

ExP was an environmental health officer. The whole office would plan evenings out at restaurants that had got poor scores on the basis that they would actually be the most hygienic and the staff would go the extra mile. With that score they will probably be re inspected before the wedding as improvement notices often specify changes which need to be made immediately.
The only issue is that her view of the wedding reception could be tainted by the poor initial inspection. This will be reported in local media, they never report re inspections as they are not "news". However They cannot change the venue due to imminent wedding so I would keep shtum.

If I was you I would contact the venue personally to get reassurance that the place is clean and how they can show guests that it is a safe place to eat at.

I am very squeamish about food prep failings and might end up bringing my own food and therefore wasting a meal that had been paid a lot for. Best to check as early as possible.

I would tell her. As a host I would want contact the venue and find out what measures they were putting in place. Also I would want to know if the measures being put in place would affect my event eg finding out about last minute menu changes being necessary.

Some of the guests may have weakened immunity whereby what would be an upset stomach normally could be far more dangerous.

If you tell them then your family member may quite rightly lose their job if they found out through their employment.

There's nothing she can do about it now, it's far too late to find somewhere else. Besides, as you say, the kitchens will be clean as fuck by the weekend now they've been inspected. Don't mention it at all.

Has anyone else had contact with the venue (her parents maybe? Matron of honour?) if so I'd contact them & let them know. They might be able to follow it up without upsetting the bride?

However, if I was the bride I'd want to know. I'd want to talk to them & see what measures have been put in place & see who will be doing the catering as the chef is no longer there & it's not always easy to get a replacement chef.

Erm, well considering we know that the press trawl here for stories and it's not going to be that hard for them to work out which national stadium venue had an EH inspection last week I imagine the story will break before the reception now. Was that your intention?

It's far too late for her to change the venue now or to get any changes beyond what the venue is already doing. All it would do is give her a great deal of anxiety and worry and put a big pall over her wedding day. Which I suspect is the intention TBH. The OP is a bit too gleeful for my liking.

Don't tell her and keep your fingers crossed your posting hasn't tipped the press off. I don't believe anyone who genuinely cared about this wedding being spoiled would have posted this.

The venue is not identifiable from my post (deliberately so).
I had to change my wedding venue 7 days before my own wedding and it was very stressful, I wouldn't wish that on anyone and I don't want my friend to have her day tainted if the story breaks this week. I've kept quiet so far but I still think I might be unreasonable in not warning her.

I meant that if your member of family found out through their role before it became public.

Has the information been released into the public domain?

A venue which hosts a national team which is high profile enough for the press to be interested in a food hygiene rating pretty much narrows it down to Wembley or Twickenham...
