Advert showing santa/fc isn't real

I can't quite believe that an advert like this would have been allowed ? Park christmas ad on the television this morning showing one families christmas eve at home, kids hang their stockings before bed then showing the mum filling them and eating the food left out for santa/Fc. Then goes on to show the kids catching this happening, any one else think this will be too much of a give away if it's watched by believing children ? Just not nessecary whatsoever I don't think.

Seriously? These sort of adverts have been shown for years in varying formats. Trust me, they know it's you before they're five.

Voteforpedr0 · 29/09/2016 22:35

This one in particular takes it to another level and I don't know many under fives who know that.

My kids didn't know when they were 5 I had to tell my dd at 11 before she started high school. I've a 5 yr old now and he firmly believes in Santa. I must be an expert liar

MoonfaceAndSilky · 29/09/2016 22:36

I haven't seen it but that doesn't sound good Sad

Trust me, they know it's you before they're five. Really really not true Hmm

Haroldplaystheharmonica · 29/09/2016 22:36

They bloody don't! All kids I know believed for much longer than we expected them to. I had to be the one to start dropping hints with my eldest and it was obvious he had no idea. He was over 10...

BadTasteFlump · 29/09/2016 22:37

He's not real? 😱

MillionToOneChances · 29/09/2016 22:37

That's awful. My kids believed until 8 or 9.

ElsaAintAsColdAsMe · 29/09/2016 22:37

Trust me, they know it's you before they're five.

Confused a lot don't.

I think if the kids were paying attention it's easy enough to explain away. Better than showing santa having to save through a catalogue all year to buy presents.

Voteforpedr0 · 29/09/2016 22:42

Moonface - it is awful I'm not sure how to go about making a complaint to the asa

What time as the advert on? I think that is key - if before say 8pm then it's really unreasonable. My 10 and 8yo still believe (I think!)

Voteforpedr0 · 29/09/2016 22:49

It was during the day very unreasonable

PinkyOfPie · 29/09/2016 22:49

I wonder how many kids believe and how many kids say they believe because they don't want to upset their parents.

My mother would tell anyone I believed until I was 10, when really it was about 5, but ironically I thought it was important to her so kept up the lie ConfusedGrin

Velvetdarkness · 29/09/2016 22:51

An advert that tells the truth? Whatever next?!

Yabu, op. Fc isn't real. Why should everyone be required to collude in your lie?

thisagain · 29/09/2016 22:51

Both my girls firmly believed until they were about 9 and then kept up the pretence (I case the presents stopped) until they started secondary school.

PinkyOfPie · 29/09/2016 22:52

I'm sure the exact same thing happened last year with PayPal advert, people were up in arms! TBH I dont think companies have a responsibility to keep up with what parents may or may not tell their kids, you get kids at school blabbing that Santa Isn't Real just handle this in the same way you would that!

myownprivateidaho · 29/09/2016 22:57

Fair enough if you want to get your kids to believe in a myth, but a bit off to expect the rest of the world to creep around to keep up the lie!

Voteforpedr0 · 29/09/2016 22:58

Velvet darkness- you sound like a huge big barrel of laughs.

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 29/09/2016 23:02

Christ it's starting already...

DocMcFanjo · 29/09/2016 23:02

Well I think YANBU OP.

Haven't seen the ad but I very much believed till age 9 or so and once I did find out I spent a good 6 years being uber-sensitive to any possible "outing" of Santa on my little brother's behalf.

Any company that uses a Santa exposé as their premise is a Scroogey meanyAngry!

Velvetdarkness · 29/09/2016 23:03

Votefor - I'm hilarious Grin

Pseudonym99 · 29/09/2016 23:03

I've watched the advert on YouTube. Where does it say Father Christmas isn't real?

DocMcFanjo · 29/09/2016 23:03

And all those of you being po-faced are big Scroogey meanies too. Humph!

PinkyOfPie · 29/09/2016 23:05

Velvet darkness- you sound like a huge big barrel of laughs

Yeah velvet you and your truth telling are so dull Wink

PinkyOfPie · 29/09/2016 23:06

pseu it's because it shows the parents putting out presents and eating the carrots etc

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 29/09/2016 23:06

Haha I like the sound of velvet
