Advert showing santa/fc isn't real

I can't quite believe that an advert like this would have been allowed ? Park christmas ad on the television this morning showing one families christmas eve at home, kids hang their stockings before bed then showing the mum filling them and eating the food left out for santa/Fc. Then goes on to show the kids catching this happening, any one else think this will be too much of a give away if it's watched by believing children ? Just not nessecary whatsoever I don't think.

Yeah, just because you choose not to believe or partake, let's ruin it for everyone else who does wish to. hmm

Nobody's forcing you to watch adverts!

All this talk of greed, mine are far from and they are so understanding that Fc has got so many to buy gifts for that they may not receive everything they ask for. It's so magical and brilliantly innocent actually.

It is mad to piss off parents who are really into Christmas while trying to flog stuff to make Christmas even more expensive magical.
It would save me some money if ds stopped believing. Perhaps I should show him the ad till he clicks. I thought there was an unspoken agreement that broadcasters didn't try to expose the myth. You can choose not to mention it at all, but if you do there is no need to rain on someone else's parade.

Those who believe receive!?!

Jeez.... it truly is a ' greedfest' isn't it? All about what presents you get

Well, if people who are going to secondary school believe in mythical beings as some on this thread say, then I think the company is doing a public service.

The use of the term "santa" is a vulgar Americanism

Report
kenicka · 30/09/2016 07:22

Blanche - it's also used in Scotland.

It's fucking stupid advertising, as soon as my kids stop believing, (and I kid you not I had tell the oldest two at ten - I obviously am a very convincing liar!) I stop getting them as much in their stockings.

Kids believe anything you tell them if you say it convincingly enough, that's why kids of religious people believe in God.

What's the ad for ?
E mail your complaint to advertising standards and the company.
Most people whinge about something but don't do anything about it.

Ridiculous to make a complaint.

Don't worry, this ad will be soon lost in a sea of full on tacky retailmas ads anyway......

Those who believe receive

Yes, unfortunately not all children who believe do receive. That's a the trouble with all fantasy belief systems, some poor sod always loses out. Santa is just a symbol for Christmas, as Micky is to Disney, it all means the same thing though - time to spend a ridiculous amounts of money or your children will be sad. That's what the advert was about, it's just dressed up as 'magic'.

Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas, but the whole Father Christmas thing has gone too far in terms of commercialism. More and more parents are getting into serious debt every year instead of just admitting 'he's not real, we'll get what we can afford'. That's the issue when FC brings Jimmy down the street an Xbox, or top of the range bike, and only gets your child a few token items. Guess they didn't 'believe' enough to receive.

If it was on during school time & not a kid's channel then I can't see the problem tbh.

Jeez there are some real joyless fun sponges on this thread.

OP go with the he only comes if you believe and parents of non believers don't want their children to miss out, that's what I was told if I questioned it.

Believed till 10 or 11 and never stopped pretending to just in case Xmas Wink

I saw that advert and thought the same thing, they made it v obvious that the mum was actually Santa
My DS is only 2 so isn't particularly aware yet but I think that would annoy me if he was a bit older.
I think it's a bit magic ruining if that makes sense?

They are only little for a short time, it's so sad to ruin the magic Sad

That Christmas Paypal advert had a lot of complaints, so Paypal only ran the advert after 9pm, so I think it is worth complaining to the ASA Voteforpedr0.

Trust me, they know it's you before they're five.

Sadly in your case that may be true.

Not in mine though.
