Supermarket trollies... AIBU

I think that parents/ adults should not be allowed to put older children inside supermarket trollies for health and safety reasons. I am a bit OCD and this totally winds me up. These little shoes go into toilets, step on all sorts including spit whilst walking out and about then they come to the supermarkets and get to stand in the trolley with the same shoes on! 😳
AIBU to think this should be a no no!

Surely most things are in packets? And you would wash any fruit etc that's not packaged?

Also the trolleys are usually kept outside where birds can shit on them etc. They're hardly sterile to start with

Trollies are kept outside. I'd say most of them have a good showering of fox piss on.

You are completely unreasonable based on your use of the phrase 'a bit ocd'. You have either been diagnosed with a mental health issue which no-one in the know would wish on their wort enemy, or you are a picky twat

It really doesn't bother me. I work on the premise that trollers are grubby anyway so any food is unpackaged or washed before eaten.

Some older children are in them because they have sn and there is no other way of getting them around the supermarket. Supermarkets have very few or no trollies for older children with sn.

YABU. I'd be more worried about the handle of the trolley and whether or not the previous user had washed their hands after sneezing/taking a dump. Everything you put in the trolley is wrapped.

Shoes are the least of your worries.

Those trollies are never cleaned.

Raw meat from broken packets, spilt dairy produce, lingering bacteria and viruses from ill and unhygienic people.. The list is endless.

And they are left out overnight, so sunken clubbers often throw up over them, if you are lucky the rain will wash the worst of it away.

That's before you start dwelling on the wildlife.

No bother, as long as you don't mind shopping while my 2 y/o DD has a massive, loud tantrum in the next aisle because she wants in the trolley not in the seat.

Trollers are filthy anyway, but I don't think it's particularly safe for children to sit in them. Far too easy to tip them over.

Trolleys live outside and they are never cleaned so they are hardly strerile to begin with.

If you knew what a lot of supermarket warehouses looked like then you wouldn't be worried about the germs from a child's shoe getting onto your food packaging. Plus the amount of customers who handle the food with unwashed hands or drop stuff on the floor and put them back is high.

Also you can't be 'a bit OCD'. Very offensive.

I think I'd prefer my 19 month old in the trolley rather than screaming the whole way around the supermarket. Most of the time he's happy to walk or go in the seat but occasionally goes in the trolley.

Not only that but the packaging is probably germy anyway! Think about where it's came from and how many times it's been handled on the way to and in the shop!

When you have washed and disinfected your trolley, please steer it carefully to the 'grips' aisle and fill up.

Sometimes it is bloody difficult enough having to shop with a child without all the judgemental twats weighing in. Mine has ASD and when he could still fit in the trolley, if he wanted/needed to go in there, he would go in because there are even more judgemental twats weighing in when he has a meltdown.

I have seen a few children fall out of trolleys (yes, even the deep ones!).

The seats are there for a reason and it's annoying for everyone to hear your child screaming because they want to go in the trolley basket but it's even worse for people to see a child crack their head open on the supermarket floor.

All you have to do is be clear they either go in the seat or they walk, they get it after a few trips to the shops (obviously excluding children with sensory needs around sitting in the trolley seats)

Maybe you should consider home delivery, op.
