Supermarket trollies... AIBU

I think that parents/ adults should not be allowed to put older children inside supermarket trollies for health and safety reasons. I am a bit OCD and this totally winds me up. These little shoes go into toilets, step on all sorts including spit whilst walking out and about then they come to the supermarkets and get to stand in the trolley with the same shoes on! 😳
AIBU to think this should be a no no!

YABU on the dirt front at everyone has said.

But it isn't safe for children to be in the main part of the trolley. I try to remind myself that it isn't my issue if I see it.

Yabvu for saying "a bit OCD"

Yabvu for everything else too, trolleys aren't clean, food is wrapped. Shop shelves and warehouses aren't clean. It's out of your control, as are other people's children and their shoes, so get a grip and let it gk

Being too big for the seat doesn't mean they are able to walk.

I hate seeing kids in trolley's because it's dangerous and might tip over.

But like others have said, the trolley's covered in germs anyway AND your food is package Hmm

Just how tall are these foxes to be able to wee on a supermarket trolley? Do posters just make up this stuff for effect?

I don't really have a view on children being in the trolley bit but it didn't used to happen. Children used to be in the seat - or walk alongside. Now some parents just do what they want whenever they like.

I used to work in a supermarket. TBH, I preferred kids in trolleys, rather than running around, knocking stuff over, etc.

No offence intended by saying a bit ocd, I am and its crippling but I am working on it. So saying a 'bit'makes me feel its better than it was/ can be. I did not mean to wind anyone up

Leccy: you probably right!

lying you've obviously never seen a fox spray urine.

Many urban foxes around here and it's a unique smell. Our store CCTV has picked them up many a time.

Alabastard, you're right, I haven't. I now have visions of them scooting up to them, standing on their tippy-toes before cocking a leg (do they do that?) and spraying the trollies... Grin

Think you're getting a hard time OP - I hate seeing children in the main bit of trolleys too

Take boxes or bags for life to line your trolley if you hate the idea of dirt. Like most people here, I don't see an issue as trollies are dirty anyway and food in generally packaged. I've witnessed and treated a baby who broke and lost the tip of a finger in a tipped trolley incident. Older sister was swinging about on the edge of one and tipped it on it's side. I used to tell customers not to put their children in the main part of the trolley or let them stand on the sides or edges, but it goes in one ear and out the other, or you get a filthy look or a mouthful of abuse.

Never seen a child fall out of the trolley section. I've seen a couple fall out of the seat including my own DS even though he was strapped in.

Ha!!!

I had spent two hideous nights in hospital with one of MY Dc this week and been stuck there unable to do weekly shop, then, my older DD also said she was unwell and off school.

I had to go to supermarket, we had nothing in, and put them both into blankets into a large trolley to quickly grab essentials.

This woman walked past me as I was struggling, (no sleep for two nights sick with worry etc etc etc) anyway this woman walked past - with a MASSIVE cats bum face and made a really pointed stare at my DC in the trolley. I dont normally like to be cruel about appearance but she looked like a witch - sorry.

It made me feel sick to be honest. I thought what a horrid nasty cow.

I wonder where op lives.

anyway I would like to say people who can admit and have such issues - please control your facial expressions or don't shop in the day time when your facial expressions could cause serious harm and offense. Smile < PA

As PP have said - trolleys are foul. Stop kidding yourself that the worst thing they will see is a pair of children's shoes.

Grown drunken teenagers adults climb into them and get wheeled around by their mates. They get left outside in the rain and knocked around the car park. All kinds of food including raw meat gets spilled, leaked and left in them.

Yes all of the above is gross so you need to be aware of it and clean any good that might come into contact with a trolley, and stop worrying about children in them.

Yabu and quite pathetic: "a bit OCD"? What does that even mean?

I would rather my child/ren in the trolley than running off/knocking things of shelves/being a general pain in the arse.

You're being precious.

This reminds me of when my XH and my XILs thought it would be fun to drag three kids, two with ASD and ADHD, round a load of shops on a Saturday afternoon and wind up in tescos cafe where they let the kids play in the trolley cupboards while they had a cup of tea. (Kids weren't bought anything).

At some point they noticed eldest DD was missing. When XH found her she was gleefully sat in a trolley going up the travelator.

She was about 7 and my heart still plummets to think what could have happened. I've never let him have all three together after that.

When ever using a trolley with a baby seat i always used a wet wipe and placed a blanket down before popping my daughter down.Just thought it was common sense. Can you imagine the amount of poonamis and baby sick that could have happend in those things.

To be fair theres no stopping dirt especially outside all you can do once they start crawling around is make sure their hands are cleaned before they put anything in their mouth. Then again stopping them from eating something unsanitary is also a challenge especially when they have only just started the lets stuff everything in my mouth phase.

There's dirt everywhere when you think about it,people touch them selves then the food packaging in stores and it gos all around and everywhere. There are very dirty people like how theres very clean people. At the end of the day all you can really do is clean your hands often.

Lol Humidseptember, it definately was not me! I dont look like a witch neither do I make faces at ppl who do this, I just find it unhygienic. With all the talk about foxes and drunkards, this tops it because I see it.

I am glad there is a minority who agree with me.

Yanbu on the dangerous side!
The warning signs are there for a reason.
I used to work in retail and have seen it happen.
Not nice.
I'm not insulted by your 'slightly ocd' comment either.
Not everyone is diagnosed with ocd.

I agree op although the parents that do it will be along to say yabu as birds shit on them as well as rats pissing in them..bollocks. packeted shopping etc goes on kitchen worktops so any gob or shite from the underside of a shoe goes in the trolley. Whilst I acknowledge that a parent of a child with sn may need to put a child in there for various reasons, I think it's usually not the case. I don't often see it though tbh

I don't mind. I'd never put my kids in a trolley simply because they'd trash the food I put in. (One asd). Food is generally packaged. Or put in a bag. Each to their own. For all I know there's a kid in my online shopping trolley...
