AIBU to have left a note? Parking dispute

Diagram attached. Neighbour basically has always parked their car in a strip of land right outside our house which is not a parking space. They have a garage but have two cars so park one of them on this strip of land.

We have been tolerant of that and have not complained in the past, despite that they have never asked if it is ok to park right outside our house. They often come back late at night banging their car doors repeatedly which is right by our daughters bedroom and wakes her up. They are also know to have let their visitors park behind them which is infront of my car so I have to ask them to move when I want to go out.

Over the past couple of days they seems to be parking the car further back so that it encroaches on where I reverse my car off my drive (diagram isn't good but it's very tight)

Last night when I returned late they had parked it so far back that I couldn't get on my drive without hitting their car, so had to park on the street. As it was late, I left a note saying:

"hello - didn't want to knock the door as its late but I couldn't get my car on the drive tonight as your car is parked so far back that it's blocking our drive. Please could you park further forward - Thankyou"

When I left for nursery this morning I noticed the note was gone but the car had not been moved. When I returned the car had been parked so far forward it was parked on part of House 2's garden. Said neighbour then appeared from his house saying very sarcastically that I must be a terrible driver if I could not get my car on the drive with his car in that position and the note was not necessary.

AIBU?!

Do you own this piece of land?

Id be inclined to start blocking him in if he's going to be a tosser. Then negotiate.

I'm not sure - I assume it's a turning space for me to reverse my car into to get out as its very tight but I don't think we own the land. I will have to contact the landlord to have a look at the deeds

You may not need to do anything, House 2 might want to take it up with him themselves!

Not likely Rebecca - House 2 is occupied by a very elderly lady that rarely leaves the house and has dementia so doubt she will want to raise an issue (although I want to raise it for her!!)

I don't think you can complain about them parking where they currently do if there are no legal restriction, annoying as it is. However you need to be able to get onto your drive. Is your house the last one he block?

That's what I thought six - I wouldn't want to be disturbed at 11pm by a neighbour. However said neighbour said it was rude and not necessary

You can get the deeds immediately online from the land registry. It's really easy but it costs £3 or something like that.

It all comes down to ownership to be honest.

I'd ignore for now but either block them in, or get them to move right away if.you are blocked.in.

Are there any double yellows or anything? Also check deeds etc.

Where should the neighbour be parking? I'd there parking for 1,2 and neighbour somewhere else?

No double yellows as its like a mini cul de sac if you see what I mean. Neighbours garage is further on down from mine, next to house 1 & house 2 garage. Thankyou!

So the bit where you park is clearly your drive, but the bit where he parks is "up for grabs" / public?

Next time he parks inconsiderately, measure where end of his car is, then when his car is not there, put a large carboard box there in the exact postition and ask him to manoevure into your drive without hitting box...

Sounds like car owner is a bit sarky, so I am asking if they also rent?
Checking the deeds is a good idea. If it is not a parking space could the landlord put up a no parking sign? Clutching at straws I know.

Next time they do it, ask them to move their car. At whatever time of day it happens to be.

They just forfeited all rights to polite consideration!

Yes they do rent. The previous occupants who owned the property used to park their second car there too so I am assuming they told them it was ok to do so (however previous owners were more considerate).

Just a thought, could you just start parking your car there? Might stop them parking there and you certainly wouldn't have trouble getting out of your drive, although they might start parking on your drive and that would be a whole new thread.

Planty - my dad sometimes parks there when he visits just to prove the point that it is not the neighbours exclusive parking space. In return the neighbour has parked behind my dad and my dad has had to ask him to move when he wants to leave

YWNBU. One of our neighbours does this sometimes and it drives me mad. Instead of being able to reverse straight out of our space, you end up having to do 20 small manoeuvres.

Your note was pleasantly worded, no problem at all. Why do people (i.e. your neighbour) feel the need to be so arsey? I can never understand this sort of rudeness. The correct response on her part should have been to apologise and make sure she doesn't part so insensitively in future. At worst she could have ignored it without being unpleasant. I am grrrr on your behalf.

Excpet I would leave it casually in the way of him parking, and accidentally fill it with a bag of cement.
I am willing to bet he will drive over it!

to be honest, if he reacts like that to your polite note, you aren't going to get anywhere with him. I would just ring his bell and wake him up when you get in if her needs to move.

Your note was polite but unless you own the land I'm not sure you can tell anyone not to park there. The fact it's outside your garden is meaningless.
