To think Creamfields organisers should have some consideration?

All day today has been accompanied by an uber annoying thumping techno base. I can't open my windows as its so loud and this kind of music gives me headaches. I thought it was my neighbours teenager. On further investigation it appears to be Creamfields. We live 5.5 miles from the festival site. Friends as far away as 7-8 miles can also hear it.

Local fb pages are full of people complaining. Police have told us they can't do anything as Creamfields have "a license to play music until 4am" It went a touch quieter at 11 when the main stages shut off but I can still hear it. It fades every so often then thumps back just enough to disturb me.

AIBU in thinking that their license should not allow them to disrupt everyone within an 8 mile radius until 4am?

I'm also pretty sure they are pumping out a volume that way exceeds safe levels. Have complained to noise department but it doesn't look like they will do anything.

I have lived in my current house for 4 years. I've never had issues like this before. We have heard occasional bits but nothing like this. It's insanity.

I'd just focus on the money it will be generating for the local economy.

I know listening to that thump thump is annoying, but at least it's temporary.

Ear plugs, eye mask, Night nurse. You'll be reet.

They will have EH officers (both private and from local authority) on site all weekend checking the noise levels - standard at most festivals like this. Noise will be reduced immediately if it breaks the acceptable levels. The problem is likely to be the weather if it is still and calm the noise is likely to be louder than in previous years! I also find if it's windy it can also have the loud and quiet effect.

I would invest in some bikers which are amazing and soft earplugs which will cut out slit of the noise... I use them whist at festivals and they enable me (a very light sleeper) to get some shut eye!

Bloody hell, I'm the world's lightest sleeper and would struggle even with earplugs, but for one weekend?

It's funny, cause at the festival it sounds dead quiet.

If it's more noticeable than previous years. We live near a stadium and sometimes you can hear every word and sometimes you can barely hear anything. All the correct rules will be being followed so not a lot you can do. Buy ear plugs if you can stand them or leave a radio or TV on I find I can fall asleep listening to that better than listening to the thump thump from outside.

We live near where leedsfest is held. I really can't get upset over one weekend a year. And yes some year it carries more. I assume the weather effects it.

YABU but I understand why, it's awful to be kept awake. We were in Cornwall recently and a festival kept me awake until 5am for 3 days - "D"P slept through it blissfully

In live in a village where several neighbours think its acceptable to have DJs in their back garden and play loud music late at night several times a year without any notice. Neighbourly relations are not good between some of us!

However, one weekend a year, when you know in advance when and how long it'll be going on for isn't too bad. Can you not arrange to be away that weekend in future - visit family or camp for the weekend?

Probably a bit controversial but I think this is the quietist year it's been ! We can normally hear it from the afternoon onwards - but so far nothing. Even drove past on the motorway last night and could see the lasers but didn't hear a thing. Personally I don't mind it - it makes a change to have something so local and as pps have said its only one weekend a year. They also give local residents free tickets too. Maybe you should go one year and join in

We live closer to Donington than you live to Creamfields.

When the wind blows in the right direction it's like having Ozzy in the garden. Other times, not so much.

However, when the wind blows in the right direction, it is also like having Nigel Mansell haring it round the village hour after hour after hour.

Which is very very annoying.

Normal for me as grew up with Glastonbury going on each year. The traffic is more of a problem, you can just get ear plugs for the noise!

It is insanity OP. My life now is more Shaun T Insanity than Oceanic Insanity.

If I were you I'd go away for the weekend. It happens every year I think? Better still rent your house out as an air B and B to festival goers and make yourself some cash out of it.

My DS is at creamfields this year for the 1st time and having a ball. Sorry not helpful.

I know it's irritating but it's only once a year and people nearer by will be having it much worse than you. If we want to be able to go and have fun at loud public events, whether it's a firework display or a rock festival or a football match someone somewhere who isn't remotely interested in it will be inconvenienced by the noise, traffic, whatever.

Sometimes you are the one benefitting, sometimes you are the one being mildly inconvenienced. That's how life works.

Festivals don't bring money into the local economy as the festival is self contained, with food, camping, shopping all on sight.

As for why you should have a nights sleep disruption as it's only for one night is beyond me.

Op make sure that you get on to the licencing and get the noise reduced and stopped earlier it isn't necessary for the noise to be so loud or for so long into the night.

I used to love the local concerts nearby and listen in my garden, but other complained to the council and got the noise reduced and shortened from stopping at 11pm to 10:30pm, so it can be done.
