To think Creamfields organisers should have some consideration?

All day today has been accompanied by an uber annoying thumping techno base. I can't open my windows as its so loud and this kind of music gives me headaches. I thought it was my neighbours teenager. On further investigation it appears to be Creamfields. We live 5.5 miles from the festival site. Friends as far away as 7-8 miles can also hear it.

Local fb pages are full of people complaining. Police have told us they can't do anything as Creamfields have "a license to play music until 4am" It went a touch quieter at 11 when the main stages shut off but I can still hear it. It fades every so often then thumps back just enough to disturb me.

AIBU in thinking that their license should not allow them to disrupt everyone within an 8 mile radius until 4am?

I'm also pretty sure they are pumping out a volume that way exceeds safe levels. Have complained to noise department but it doesn't look like they will do anything.

I have lived in my current house for 4 years. I've never had issues like this before. We have heard occasional bits but nothing like this. It's insanity.

So YABU and NIMBYish it's unreal.

Advicepls7080 · 28/08/2016 20:02

What is NIMBY?

chough · 28/08/2016 20:03

Not In My Back Yard

MonkeyBrainsInPickle · 28/08/2016 20:04

4am is not mental. It's actually pretty early for a rave Confused

Most disappointed. I can't hear the thud in Orford.

Raced back from Bolton especially, just so I could come here and say "I can hear it too" Grin

Everything is the fault of the new bridge at the moment! Late for work, bins not being collected on time, more litter on the streets, shops closing down. And now Creamfields being too loud.

We have at least another 2 years to blame the bridge for everything... Grin

We can hear it really well tonight, it's great!
I wonder if they'd go on for longer if we phoned & asked nicely?

leccybill · 28/08/2016 22:50

Really, two more years for the bridge? Blimey.

Dizzybintess · 29/08/2016 00:11

We are camping in tarvin this weekend and we were seriously worried we would be able to Hear it but thankfully not. Hope you get some sleep OP

heron98 · 29/08/2016 05:37

Well there's been an illegal rave in the woods behind my house all night. Pretty loud but it's just one night so I have ignored it. Got some good reading in though as I couldn't sleep!

BaronessEllaSaturday · 29/08/2016 11:37

BrianCoxReborn not a million miles away but far enough to not be the same, It's the other side of Preston.

Puzzledconfusedandbewildered · 29/08/2016 11:56

I used to live near a major festival location, a lot closer than you are to creamfields, and just sucked it up for the sake of one weekend a year. If I had a migraine I'd decamp to my parents several miles away.

MontePulciana · 29/08/2016 17:11

It used to be in Liverpool, well Speke..was much better then! Best weekend of my life was at Creamfields 2005. Hope the kids of today are having a blast.

MrJones1977 · 29/08/2016 17:23

Festivals will generally always cause some disturbance. I live near Goodwood so have to compete with awful traffic, an influx of morons and low flying noisy aircraft(granted this year was better on the aircraft front due to the Shoreham tragedy) Some organisers are willing to give out some form of compensation, although this is generally cheap or free tickets(I believe that's what happens with Glastonbury and I got free tickets during Design Far in Wales when I was a bar manager right next to the venue)
I do think YAB - a tiny bit - U as Creamfields has been going for some time. However, contact the organisers and see if they provide compensation for local disturbances. Other than that it is a case of just sucking it in and dealing with it

Lucyellen81 · 29/08/2016 17:31

I'm with the majority here YABU, I've just come back from Creamfields as an artists guest and met a lot of the event management and production team and having being involved in some smaller events I promise you every rule and regulation is followed. It is only 1 weekend a year and 70,000 people plus about 5000 staff did have an absolutely wicked weekend. Should all those people miss out because far less people object? Not really! Weirdly I actually left the site a couple of times and commented at how we couldn't hear the music from the A56 so you must have been very unlucky. I wish my amazing weekend didn't cause issues for residents though but not that sorry I'd not go Grin

SooBee61 · 29/08/2016 17:37

Love Mouikey's suggestion of investing in some bikers. Makes it sound like Altamont!

Ackeeandsaltfish · 29/08/2016 17:37

How many of those 70,000 are suffering from the effects of the excessive sound level of the music? Probaby some suffering temporary threshold shift if the music was disturbing people 5 miles away. Let's hope no one has permanent hearing loss.

Ackeeandsaltfish · 29/08/2016 17:38

Probably!

ivykaty44 · 29/08/2016 17:50

I just don't get why due to 70000 people wanting music till 4am that residents have to suck it up and have a sleepless night.

Why can the music be so that at least people can sleep? What about people having to work? It's fine saying go away but there is a cost attached to go away.

Advicepls7080 · 29/08/2016 18:01

It was disturbing people 14 miles away also so it obviously mustn't have been within regulations.

Didn't disturb me but I know people it did!

DecaffCoffeeAndRollupsPlease · 29/08/2016 18:12

I've worked in a cafe at a fair few festivals and would be sent to the closest shop at least once a day for crew and cafe supplies, so there's a bit of money for the local economy. Also, every festival I've been to as a punter in the last few years I've gone offsite in the daytime to explore the local towns as I get bored of being at the festival itself. Again, money spent in local economy. Don't know how significant that is though.

Just another perspective.
