it's like listening to a six year old when my neighbour is in the garden, he's in his 30's but goes in the garden is out there for a couple of minutes then he calls her several times, loudly, i don't know her real name, so i guess she is mum -. she calls him by his name but responds in a tired mums voice sort that you would use when a dc whinges and pesters.
sorry, if i sound a bit bitchy but it makes me smile, so what do you call your dp /dh/ dw ?

I call him by his name. He calls me by mine.

I have a friend who calls his wife 'Mummy' and she calls him 'Daddy'. I couldn't do that at all.

We have a completely nauseating habit of calling each other pet names beginning with P - so at the moment, I'm Pootle, he's Peony and DS is Pickle.

I used to call him 'babe', I hate it but we met young and it's a difficult habit to break. I've been trying to call him by his name instead but unfortunately I realised the other night that I was calling him 'Daddy', even though DS was in bed

Is it crazy to be so annoyed by my own habits?

My 'ils' call each other 'mother' and' father'. And they aren't even together anymore!
When my dh was a child he had to call them by their names not mam /dad!!

No pet names for me and DH. Although the lad I work with, if his wife calls he answers the phone with 'Alright Bollocks'. She calls him 'bitch' apparently.

I really detest working with him. He has made me hate coming in to work, even though I have been here for nearly 10 years. Job interview today. So fingers crossed, I won't have to put up with his shit for much longer.

I now call him DH, his initials are JW so it causes a few puzzled faces but we like it.

I call dp snotface (drop dead Fred reference) and he calls me jiggly bum. It sounds a bit offensive from the outside but they're terms of endearment really

We address each other using terms for meat products. My favourite for him is "Scrag End", he often calls me "Chump Chop".

hag 'snot face' 'jiggly bum ? my nickname would be very outing but it is nice and i love it and its variations, mummy and daddy from the mouths of anyone over the age of 10 sounds a bit bleugh imo.
when i was growing up our neighbours used to call each other 'm' for mother and 'f' for father cue, 'would you ask 'f to pull some radishes from the garden please?' in a very la de da tone [ they grew veg in the garden] but once in door were effing and jeffing like troopers

DH and I call each other babe or love.

He's daddy, I'm mummy and as we live with MIL she's nanny. If someone refers to me by my first name in DD presence I ignore them. I don't want her calling me or DH by our first names. It's a respect thing.

diddy why do you think dd would call you by your first name if she knows you as 'mummy' ? so, when someone speaks to you, you are mrs diddy , or mummy , surely dd knows you first name anyway. no disrespect intended as everyone is different but i'm interested. [and nosy]

I have about a dozen different names for him, he answers to them all, lol. Same for the DC, no one ever answers to the wrong one.

Until this thread I hadn't realised how many it was! No one seems confused by it, I'll have to ask them.

I call him by his name

Only ever call DP daddy when sending the kids to find him or passing DD to him. Otherwise he's his name or babe when the kids are up. When they are in bed we call eachother by various insults

I call him by his name most the time, sometimes the odd pet name like babe, Hun etc.

He calls me Ethel... That isn't my name... I cant remember how it stared but it started when we was about 18/19 and has just stuck over and now when he calls me my real name I think "what? Who's that?" haha!

When talking the kids we call each other mum and dad.

We call each other abbreviations of our first names.

Didn't realise how much we call out to each other using our names until our dc started doing it.

They are preschoolers and often call us by our first names, especially when we're around other mums and dads as they've worked out we probably respond quicker. They also call us the normal mummy, mum etc and also mama which is odd as I have never used that term.

I don't find them using our first names disrespectful. They're just copying us.

What about the bank manager, doctor, a teacher, your friends? Do they all have to call you mummy if your children are in ear shot?

My Grandmother calls my Grandfather 'father', which is strange because everyone else calls him by his firstname, including his children and grandchildren.
