it's like listening to a six year old when my neighbour is in the garden, he's in his 30's but goes in the garden is out there for a couple of minutes then he calls her several times, loudly, i don't know her real name, so i guess she is mum -. she calls him by his name but responds in a tired mums voice sort that you would use when a dc whinges and pesters.
sorry, if i sound a bit bitchy but it makes me smile, so what do you call your dp /dh/ dw ?

I call him a daft mashup of his first and last names. You lot would probably find it toe-curlingly cringey. Smile

He calls me 'Sweetheart' or 'Waffy'.

If someone refers to me by my first name in DD presence I ignore them.

Not really? That's really odd!

I had assumed that most children go through a phase of calling their parents by their first names.

We have loads that we use regularly. I have about 7 names for DP and he has about 12 for me - none of which are even close to our actual names Grin

Some are sickeningly cutesy, others are totally weird but it's always fun. We respond to every single pet name without fail, and even better, DP is bilingual and some of them we use in both English and DPs other language. No one ever has a clue what's going on!

We call each other Weasel. I can't remember how it started, but it works for us.

I worked with a man who called his wife 'Chewy' - short for Chewbacca because she's so hairy!

It's the way my parents did it. I still call my mum, mum or Granny in the presence of my daughter I wouldn't dream of referring to her directly by her first name. When I'm around my friends with our children we all refer to each other as mummy or if speaking to our children about one of them they are eg Lola's mummy. If my bank manager, dr or a teacher at her school when she goes referred to me by my first name is be mortified. I'd be Mrs Williams to them. Called me old fashioned but I think people can be to familiar.

My grandparents did the same

Erm, that's because she IS your mum. Why would you call her by her first name Confused

Grandmother calls my Grandfather 'father', which is strange because everyone else calls him by his firstname, including his children and grandchildren.

My grandparents did the same. Only they were man and grandad to their grandchildren

DH and I call each other all sorts of things. We each have a main nickname which gets used most often, which would out me so I won't share them. But we also use general terms of vomit enducing endearment - babe, darling, sweetheart, gorgeous etc. And occasionally we use real names. But not often.

When talking to the children we say "show it to to daddy/mummy" or whatever but don't address each other as such.

That's the point. I wouldn't and I wouldn't want my daughter calling me by mine

When I'm around my friends with our children we all refer to each other as mummy

So, if you are all hanging out together at someone's house, do you say things like, "Would you like a cup of tea, Mummy? How about you, Mummy?", or, "Let's meet at Mummy's house next time, shall we, Mummies?".

I call him a short form of his name - he does this for me too. My mum calls him by his first name and it sounds so odd to me! Don't know why! Grin when referring to me to our daughter though he calls me mummy.

I call him by his actual name or by a version of his nickname which is a shortening of our last name.

He calls me Baby Girl. Or Dave Grin

My grandad called my grandma Mummy, which I found very confusing, especially as he referred to her as "(your) mother" to my dad and "(your) grandma" to us.

It was many years before I learned that 'mummy' is something like sweetheart or darling in his mother-tongue. It had never even occurred to me that it was a version of Mammali, which was what Grandma called him, and which was obviously a pet-name!

Dh and I boringly refer to each other by our given names, except when we leave each other notes or in cards, etc, when we use cryptic initials. These refer to cutesy preDC pet-names, which we keep secret from our dc. Drives them nuts Grin

Usually I just talk at him with no name. If I use a name it's his actual name, or honey or beebeebawbaw, obvs. Or Crisp. We use strange voices rather than strange names and half the time we sing to each other rather than talk. I have started doing something very irritating which is kind of talking to DH through the baby eg 'maybe daddy will change your nappy this time?' 'Daddy will give you your lunch' when I want DH to do either thing. Hate myself sometimes Grin

I read once that if you always call your partner 'mum' or 'dad' when talking to each other, it will ruin your sex life because you begin to permanently view them in a parenting role.
I certainly couldn't call my husband 'dad' in bed.

Babe, baba, bubs, dick and douche 😂

He calls me similar.

Unless he's being ridiculous or super silly in front of dd then he gets an exasperated "daddy!"

I just call mine by his name or if I'm talking about him to DC I say "your dad/daddy" (DC have quite a large age gap so the youngest still says daddy).

We use our names, pet names make me cringe. We will say Mum or Dad if we are speaking to the DCs eg "Where's Dad?".

With friends it's generally firstnames all round. Doctors etc I'm happy for them to use my firstname too although. I think it's important for children to learn early on that we go by a variety of different names and titles at different times depending on relationship and circumstances.
