Having pub lunch at our local with DH and the children, 3 and newborn baby.

DD(3) has been swimming with DH all morning and I've been on a cluster feeding marathon with the baby since 5am. Hence we are all pretty tired.

DH technically working this afternoon, so was sending some emails on his work phone. I was on MN on my phone. Baby asleep and DD happily occupied on the iPad playing a children's game while we waited for our food to come.

A woman walks past on her way out for a cigarette, stops at our table and rolls her eyes, saying "the modern family" sarcastically, before walking out.

It just felt so mean and judgemental of a tiny snapshot of our day. I don't think we spend excessive time on our phones etc, and DD had colouring books and reading to keep her entertained as well- but it made me feel self conscious for the rest of the meal.

You don't need the approval of anyone. Screw you fags-lady.

Just be glad that you brightened her mean-spirited day just a little. So she could feel better about her lemon-sucking judgement.

It's the sort of thing we'd say as a family if we all have our noses stuck in devices at the same time. From a complete stranger? Totally her problem, not yours, as she knows fuck all about you.

But I'm well aware it's none of my business, so I say nothing (obviously) and concentrate on my own family.

I wish I'd remembered to bring the tablet out when we just went into town for coffee. As it was the dds played hangman, whilst ds sat under the table twiddling a bit of ribbon attracting gawpy starers, and I practised my best scowly face. It was NOT relaxing, and now my head hurts from the scowling.

Ignore, she doesn't have a clue. I have a child free friend who posted a rant on Facebook a while back about a child in the doctors waiting room with an iPad and how unnecessary it is, in her day it was colouring books and crayons. My DD has plenty of things that weren't around "in my day" that's no reason not to use them now, times move on and if playing an iPad game keeps a child still and quiet for a while in a boring situation for them then what's the problem.

She said it sarcastically but you should take it as a compliment - yes that's how modern families spend SOME of their time together. I'd have followed her outside discreetly, pausing while she is mid-fag. Then I'd comment that it's a good job such a large portion of the cost of cigarettes will go towards her lung cancer and emphysema treatment...

Some idiots cannot comprehend that some of us can go only go on holiday because we can still do a few hours of work here and there. So you give an ipad to your kid in a restaurant? Instead of letting your child wait miserably for the food, being told off for being disruptive, or running around the restaurant and being a nightmare?

Oh OP I posted this to someone else already but
I had the same the other week cos I had DD and DS glued to Peppa Pig in an ex pat pub (empty bar us and one other guy) Sod the fact that we had been at the park for FOUR hours. Some random approached me after DH had nipped out to escort our eldest back. He then (in German) offered to play with my children.
DD2 DS Me:
He spent some time trying to explain paper, rock, scissors (which mine know) when DD just said (in German) Black hole. I win!
repeatedly until he gave up.
DH came back and said Can't leave you alone for 5 minutes Kimmy.
Was all very strange and his problem. He said he and his kids always interact without evil technology. We did wonder if he was trying to beat Peter Andre for Dad of the year, why he was in the pub alone . There are judgy people
all over and they only ever see a snapshot. Don't sweat it.

Term time is madness and the 11 yo barely remembers she has an iPad, but in the holidays we sometimes take them out with us.

On Wednesday we went from one thing to another all bloody day from about 8:30 until about 6 (dentist, piano, swimmimg, eye test & ice skating - chemist, supermarket & dropped stuff of at a charity shop). We talked about all sorts, all day in the car & whilst waiting etc but at lunchtime we sat mostly in silence each with our iPads. If looks could kill I'd be 6ft under. Poor child clearly gets no attention & no conversation 😳🤔🙄....whatever 😁

So Worra would judge away too, but hey ho 😁
