To be pissed off with MIL

So my mil has obviously been running her mouth to my BIL about my opinion on him getting his 17 year old gf pregnant he is 43!! My opinion of course is absolute disgust!!
Subsequently his now deleted me off fb.. I'm not so much bothered about that but the fact she asked my opinion and ran straight back to them with it!! Should of just lied and said I was ecstatic for them..

Sounds to me like you're better off well away. As long as DP/DH isn't affected then leave them to it :)

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 18/08/2016 16:28

Hmmm. What he is doing takes cradle snatching to a whole new level. Bleurgh

Whatthefreakinwhatnow · 18/08/2016 16:29

You slagged him off to his own mother?! I'd have stated absolutely neutral and kept my opinion to myself......

RainIsAGoodThing · 18/08/2016 16:31

I have family members who love nothing better than to stir shit too. You're right, in future you should just lie and say you think it's great.

Wigglewogglewoo · 18/08/2016 16:32

getting his 17 year old gf pregnant he is 43!!

That's absolutely disgusting Confused Why was that relationship even allowed in the first place?!

Ginmakesitallok · 18/08/2016 16:35

Why didn't you want him to know how you felt? Yabu

davos · 18/08/2016 16:37

So you slagged him off to his mum and surprised she told him?

I am assuming she told him in a 'the whole family is disgusted' kind of way.

I have always that if you are talking about someone and you would be mad if it got back to them, you should stop talking.

CannotEvenDeal · 18/08/2016 16:37

Have you ever expressed an opinion about it to bil?

I'd they differed wildly then I see his point

CannotEvenDeal · 18/08/2016 16:37

*if

davos · 18/08/2016 16:37

Why was that relationship even allowed in the first place?!

As much as I agree that it's disgusting? Who exactly could stop it?

Doinmummy · 18/08/2016 16:39

Your MIL should be disgusted with him too. Sounds all very childish to
me (not the pregnancy - that's awful) running about telling tales and shit stirring . I wouldn't worry , if BIL says anything to you , I'd reiterate my thoughts , I'm sure you're not the only one to think it's all so wrong .

Doinmummy · 18/08/2016 16:41

I wonder what the girls parents think?

Beyinbonnet · 18/08/2016 16:49

I never slagged him off to her!! I merely said that getting a 17 year old pregnant when ya should know better is disgusting!! Even his sister and brother were shocked!! They've been in a relationship for 8 months she's just turned 17 in May!! Fair enough be in a relationship but to decide to have a baby in that short space of time at such a big age gap im sorry but how the hell are you meant to hold your tongue!! It's not normal!!

Ew. Poor girl. I'm guessing you're not the only one who's said something not entirely positive to either BIL or MIL. He'll be doing a lot of FB deleting.

DoNotBlameMeIVotedRemain · 18/08/2016 16:53

You've posted it on here before. Perhaps the girlfriend is on Mumsnet?

blitheringbuzzards1234 · 18/08/2016 16:56

I've found that it's all right for MIL to criticise darling BIL but not to join in. Sometimes I say, "can't think where he gets it from!" then MIL looks at me with something approaching a sense of humour despite her regular confusion. But that's as far as I'd go now because she's very contrary and a regular sourpuss if she's in a bad mood.

Memoires · 18/08/2016 16:57

You don't know that that's what happened though, do you? She asked your opinion, which is entirely reasonable. Then maybe he had a row with her about it because she agreed with you and she said "Lots of people thinks it's awful" and he demanded to know who and she mentioned your name among some others...

Anyway, you're better off.

Benedikte2 · 18/08/2016 17:01

Give MIL the benefit of the doubt. She may have told him everyone is disgusted and when BIL challenged mentioned you were in agreement with her.
I'm sure MIL asked your opinion because she was not happy with the situation herself to start with and wanted confirmation she wasn't BU.
Casually mention to MIL that BIL has blocked you and was it something she said re your conversation. Would be interesting to hear where exactly she is coming from.

MunchCrunch01 · 18/08/2016 17:02

it's a bit of a tragedy, MIL being a PITA aside, for the 17 year old and the baby. Maybe it's an exceptional love story and I'm being cynical but there's something so creepy about a person that old going after somebody so young.

LaurieFairyCake · 18/08/2016 17:03

Ugh, poor woman. He is grotesque.

Sparklesilverglitter · 18/08/2016 17:08

Your better off away from it all.

Yes it's not ideal to be pregnant so young but live and let live I say so would of held my toungue as they'd be no judgement from me.

davos · 18/08/2016 17:10

So you told her it was disgusting. And she told him.

Why say it m, if you wouldn't say it to his face?

davos · 18/08/2016 17:10

The random 'm' shouldn't have been there Grin

Eatthecake · 18/08/2016 17:10

Your better off away from it all.

Situation isn't ideal but I wouldn't of judged, different strokes different folks.

Me and dh have 19 years between us I'm sure some of you would say that was disgusting too
Nanna and grandad have 25 years diffrence again I am sure some of you would pass judgement on that too

glueandstick · 18/08/2016 17:11

Ahhhh Facebook.
