To think it should have been Jess?

I didn't watch Gilmore Girls first time around, but recently saw it on Netflix - and I'm hooked. While I kind of like the fact that Rory remained single at the end (independent and off to a fresh start), AIBU to think that Jess was 'the one' (and yes, I have an age-inappropriate crush on him).

Logan - entitled, spoiled, womanising little MF and Dean - HUGE potential to be future drunk husband who beats Rory up on a regular basis. Your thoughts......

Personally I hope Rory has found love with a completely different person and remains friends with grown up Jess. Assuming he has moved on.

Also hope Lane has the fulfilment she deserves now the twins are older.

I'm team dean all the way xx

Sorry bank missed that post and a bloody good thing too Agree with Lane finding fulfilment; always saw her as a bit 'dull' but a PP made me realise that compared to Rory, her life has been rather restricted.

*Dizzy^ ! Noooo! He really is abusive! or would be if this was IRL

I really loved Lane ... given the restrictions she faced she was such a rebel! Can't see any other outcome other than her being kick ass (and an awesome Mum) in the new series - I think she could do anything she wanted.

Again... re-watching I think the way Mrs Kim treats her is at best inadvisable and at worst verging on abuse but in a way I think it is similar to the Emily/Lorelai dynamic - she wants the best for her and thinks she needs to control her to ensure she doesn't make any mistakes - rather sad really. Also mirrored in the relationship with her MIL and the slack she cuts Lane at the wedding if I remember rightly (not up to re-watching that bit yet?).

I think I first watched the series around the time I lost my Mum though, and so the whole series is thick with nostalgia about Mother-Daughter relationships for me (at the end of the day, it is one of the most important, if not the most important, themes of the show).

I think Mrs Kim was one of the best characters. When we met her she was a charicature of a fierce, rigid, religious zealot mother but she developed real depth and compassion as the series progressed and her love for Lane became very apparent.

And unlike other protagonists whose names shall not be mentioned (but the initials are EG and LG and they are female relations of Rory), she was capable of change.

SerenDippitee · 13/08/2016 19:53

Liiinoo completely agree - definitely one of the best written characters. Her mellowing in later seasons was totally plausible, especially once we saw her fraught relationship with her own mother (remember the fake Buddhist wedding that Lane had to have?!). She realised that she was going to lose Lane altogether if she didn't change her attitudes; something that Emily never really grasped.

Has anyone mentioned what a thoroughly unpleasant person Taylor is? Small-minded and manipulative and takes so much pleasure in upsetting people for no good reason. I'm watching the episode where he tries to put a spanner in the works at the last minute before Lorelei and Sookie start renovating the Dragonfly and I just want to punch him in the face!

Liiinoo · 25/08/2016 16:24

LawrenceS

A bit like Anne in Run Away Home - poking her nose in and being self righteous. Let's start a Marlow thread.

If Rory had any sense she would have gone after Kirk. Brilliant character. How many jobs can one person have??? Grin

Team Jess!

LawrenceSMarlow · 26/08/2016 13:16

Liiinoo there's a thread in Children's Books about "The Marlows and their Maker", has potential for diversifying Wink
