To think it should have been Jess?

I didn't watch Gilmore Girls first time around, but recently saw it on Netflix - and I'm hooked. While I kind of like the fact that Rory remained single at the end (independent and off to a fresh start), AIBU to think that Jess was 'the one' (and yes, I have an age-inappropriate crush on him).

Logan - entitled, spoiled, womanising little MF and Dean - HUGE potential to be future drunk husband who beats Rory up on a regular basis. Your thoughts......

siena Yes, Lane was a bore - although that guy she went out with for a while was 'alright' Grin. But, like, Jess is mine....

I am 100% Team Jess. He's the only one who is Rory's genuine intellectual equal. I'd really like to see them get together.

I feel very sorry for Lane. It's made clear that she's just as bright as Rory but she just doesn't achieve any of her potential. I was pleased when she got out of the Seventh Day Adventist college and began to make her own way but she just ended up working in Luke's, married to Zack (who is unbelievably stupid) and with twins by the age of 22. She isn't even fulfilled by her music any more. I really hope that the new series shows her getting a bit more out of life.

All four feature-length episodes will be on Netflix from 25 November - Black Friday and a holiday weekend in the US.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 11/08/2016 14:55

seren. Now I feel bad for Lane! And yes, Zach was a tit!

I can partly sympathise with Emily in certain moments, but after growing up with a mother who is very similar, it really is all her own doing. Lorelai is constantly reacting as a child because she is transported back to that stage in Emily's presence. It is typical stately homes stuff, and while in isolated incidents Lorelai is clearly in the wrong, she has her reasons for reacting the way she does.

Lane is an interesting character because of the life she ended up living. Mrs Kim put so much effort into instilling values and pushing Lane down a particular road, that she completely missed the point and Lane ended up doing exactly the opposite of what Mrs Kim wanted for her. No Korean Doctor. Just Zach, married young, two babies, working in Lukes.

Whereas Lorelai, with her questionable morals and her lack of parenting of Rory (all in Mrs Kims eyes) produced a young adult who got into Harvard, graduated from Yale and had a career.

I did love Hep Alien and Zach though. And I overthink GG too much. On my 4th watching of the entire series ahead of the new episodes. Blush

CloudPirate · 11/08/2016 16:40

I was watching the one last night when Lorelei and Emily go to a spa, and I got so annoyed at how bratty and ungrateful Lorelai was being when Emily was excited about spending time together. It was also really sad when they had the whole conversation about Emily not having the relationship she wanted with her and no-one told her she could be friends with her daughter, she'd just done her best to do what was right for her and be a good role model Sad

I

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 11/08/2016 19:12

Agree, CloudPirate. Emily tried, and at times Lorelai just sabotaged her efforts while claiming to be just a bystander to her family's crazy.

And the new info about Milo Ventimiglia has put me off entirely. If I hear anything about Christopher, I won't believe in love anymore.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 11/08/2016 19:24

noncommittal. We don't know it's true about Milo, and Christopher is so downright gorgeous, I refuse to believe he's ever even had a crap, let alone anything worse. Agree on the Emily front; they did pay for Rory's education but the sulky resentment of having to do Friday Night Dinner (which they frequently left early/got out of entirely) was a bit ungrateful. And Emily had her own shite to deal with in her frankly horrible MIL. I always enjoyed those interactions; it was then that we saw the Lorelei in Emily. I wish they were all posting on MN. Who would get the shorter shrift, Emily or Lorelei?!

Oh maaaaaan! Oh the spoilers! Oh I'm so gutted. Shock

MoreGilmoreGirls · 11/08/2016 19:37

I agree Jess came good in the end and would have been a good fit for Rory, glad she turned down Logan and ended up on her own. Always thought Loralie should have been with Chris (swoon). Did feel for Emily but she was her own worst enemy. Loved the interaction between her and Loralie in "I am Kayak hear me roar" but then she reverts to type. It's a shame

MoreGilmoreGirls · 11/08/2016 19:38

Not that I've watched them all about 6 times Blush

Msqueen33 · 11/08/2016 19:45

I loved this show. Second time watching I thought Lorelei was a serious brat. I may have to get Netflix just for this though. I love Sookie but that could be my love of Melissa Macartny.

Notimefortossers · 11/08/2016 19:47

YABU for watching Gilmore Girls

almostthirty · 11/08/2016 19:48

Im team Logan Blush . Is it wrong I'm seriously considering getting Netflix just for GG? and how do I persuade dh it's a good idea?

MotherKat · 11/08/2016 19:48

Team Jess, he was dreamy.

greathat · 11/08/2016 20:00

Gilmore Girls kept me going through hyperemesis. Love it

Andylion · 11/08/2016 20:05

Always thought Loralie should have been with Chris (swoon).

Yeah but -

SPOILER ALERT

  • The whole Gigi thing pissed me off. Grow up, don't call the mother of your daughter, (who raised Rory all by herself with no help from you because you were still a manchild) because you can't handle you own second child.
Liiinoo · 11/08/2016 20:06

Really they were all horrible egotists. I watched it when my DDs were younger than Rory and was ok with it, but watching it now I am horrified at Lorelai's shockingly narcissistic parenting. The apple didn't fall far from Emily's tree - and Rory is very similar.

The scene when Lorelai talks to Dean after Rory and him split up and says 'we are still friends aren't we' makes my flesh crawl. It's Emily and Christopher all over again. The thought of me saying that to a DD's ex is excruciating.

As the mum of two 20 something girls my mantra is pretty much - what would Lorelai do? And then not do that.

Dean, Jess, Logan, Luke, the lovely Max all had a lucky escape - Gilmore women are toxic.

But I still love, love, love, love the series and cannot wait for the new episodes.

LizKeen · 11/08/2016 20:13

The stately homes threads deal with Emilys all the time!

I agree that Lorelai was a brat on many occasions, however, Richard and Emily failed to accept Lorelai's life choices. Yes it was hard for them, but Rory was 16 when the series started and the still hadn't got over it. In sixteen years!!!

They undermined Lorelai awfully when Rory left Yale, and there was always the undercurrent of the dreadful disappointment Lorelai had been. Get over it already ffs.

Lorelai is always on the defensive with them, guarded and waiting for their next disapproval. Then they act all reasonable as if she has never had any cause to be that way, which is the ultimate manipulation. Patronising and belittling her all the time.

AndYourBirdCanSing · 11/08/2016 20:13

LOVE Gilmore girls. Just rewatched it all in preparation and was surprised to think she should be with Christopher this time- I used to be team Luke first time round. Her and Christopher just 'get' each other. Loved Jess and how he grew up but I think Logan did as well

Dean's a dick

Msqueen33 · 11/08/2016 20:35

I love Luke. He's a consistently good guy. Bit dumb over the thing with his daughter and not telling Lorelei.

Kit2015 · 11/08/2016 20:47

I have found my people!
Love Jess.
Rewatching it on Netflix atm. And I can't belive that now I am finding Lorelei annoying and quite self centred. The whole thing with Max?
Also some of Rorys actions are quite self-centred to. I had never thought about it before.

Viviene · 11/08/2016 20:50

Netflix is only few £ a month and they used to do free trial month. I have been with them for years though - awesome stuff.

Oh, team Jess here.

Bank. While I fully endorse your advice, I suspect you might be on the wrong thread....unless of course, you are chastising Dean.

YABU for watching Gilmore Girls

It is notime tosser who is on the wrong thread. I was watching GG as I read and typed! I see I've been deleted for how I shortened the name though.
