Just been screamed at by my neighbour

Because I asked that she stop buzzing my flat when she doesn't have her entry key with her after 7pm.

I have 2 small DC. She has 2 older DC. There seem to be people coming and going all the time from her flat. Her dad (I assume) and her sister are around a lot. There is always an adult in her flat with the kids. I appreciate she works and the council only gives out one set of keys. You have to buy more.

However, when she goes to work and returns late she routinely buzzes in using my number. As does her visitors. I can only assume so as not to wake her own children.
There are 4 flats on each floor so she could choose either of the other 2 to buzz but it's always me.

Tonight she buzzed and it woke both my children. I quite often have the buzzer on mute but forgot to do it tonight.
I let her in but said 'please don't buzz my number again. I have young DC and you wake them up regularly by buzzing'
She then knocked at my door and proceeded to yell at me in a mix of French, Arabic and English about how rude the English are and it's just courtesy to let your neighbour in and this is why everyone hates this country etc.
I slammed the door in her face to avoid punching her

I just really don't understand how some people's minds work. I never would buzz a neighbour that I knew had small children in the evening and if I was desperate and had to I would apologise profusely!

Next time she buzzes don't let her in! And then turn the buzzer off.

flanjabelle · 09/08/2016 20:59

Yanbu. Cheeky mare!! Report her to the council if it continues, she is making a nuisance of herself.

Lemonlady22 · 09/08/2016 21:00

i would get up at 4am everyday for a week and buzz her flat....see how she likes it!

GettingScaredNow · 09/08/2016 21:03

Haha Lemon - however this would involve getting up 2 small children and going down to the entry door to buzz. And knowing my luck they probably have it on mute.

Just gobsmacked at the reaction!

What a bitch - put it on mute for a while and never buzz her in - she will soon stop and eventually you can leave it on again as they wont bother if it doesn't work- ignore the silly grumpy cow

PJBanana · 09/08/2016 21:08

I'd be tempted to get petty and buzz her flat every time you come home preferably late at night or bright and early in the morning.

If I were you I'd just put it on mute and don't buzz her in.

YANBU.

PregnantAndEngaged · 09/08/2016 21:18

:O What a cheeky bitch. YANBU!!

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/08/2016 21:18

She's a special snowflake. Definitely on silent from now on. Perhaps tell your visitors to text and only call if they have no answer from you?

Lilmisskittykat · 09/08/2016 21:22

Well I'd be pressing that buzzer at every opportunity!

That's so rude and unreasonable

EweAreHere · 09/08/2016 21:22

YANBU. She should know better. She sounds like a selfish entitled cow.

cheapskatemum · 09/08/2016 21:22

YANBU and I'm guessing she doesn't ever buzz the other flats because they never answered/let her in in the past when she tried.

KC225 · 09/08/2016 21:24

As mummyof says. Put it on mute and have your guests call you to be let in.

ohtheholidays · 09/08/2016 21:27

What a nasty piece of work OP.

Like others have suggested report her, make sure you report her reaction today as well, never let her or anyone visiting her in again and stick your buzzer on mute.

Entitled cow,I hate people like that.

Lorelei76 · 09/08/2016 21:44

oh that's so not on!! I would be telling her so in no uncertain terms.

I would also suggest that you put the buzzer on mute - however....just to be aware, I live opposite a block who have similar issues and one family actually took to just yelling up at their window to get whoever was home to let them in.

I ended up going round there and doing the "nice" bit first - saying to them please just text each other, but it was happening at 2am so they did look embarrassed and apologised.

So just to be aware, if you mute your buzzer, yes I guess she will try others first, but then if she pisses them off she might resort to shouting up to the flat.

though I don't know why she can't do the texting thing either...yes it requires people to keep an eye on their phone but surely much fairer all round.

The council only gives out one set of keys. You have to buy more
So there is a simple solution to the problem then, what a cheeky bitch!!

I am so glad I don't live in a flat any more. When I did I didn't even have the option of muting the buzzer and it was quite normal for a certain couple of people to press one button after another and if you answered they would ask you to go and knock on their friend's door to see if they were in.

The thing they didn't realise is that if their friend had been in they would have answered the buzzer themselves as the buzzers were so loud that at night you could hear them being pressed in turn.

PersianCatLady · 09/08/2016 21:48

how rude the English are
Yet pressing someone else's buzzer and waking their kids isn't rude in her culture then?

User543212345 · 09/08/2016 22:18

Can you speak to the council about her? It's antisocial behaviour and needs to be stopped. We had a neighbour have his customers friends buzz our doorbell all hours of the day and night and the police got a closure order on his flat - nobody, not even him, was allowed in his owned flat for 3 months.

Theres legislation to stop this - get the authorities involved!

SoleBizzz · 09/08/2016 22:21

Nice bit of racism there from buzzer bitch

GettingScaredNow · 09/08/2016 22:25

Buzzer bitch Grin that right there is her nick name!!

It was more the casual racism and weird hatred of her chosen country that pissed me off. also that is exactly how STBXH talked all the time so red rag to a bull for me
I do not understand it.

Your country is so shit you leave to come here. Cos it offers a better standard of living. Then complain at length about how shit it is here and how much you hate it... Why not leave???

I might well call the council tomorrow.

The keys are a £15 REFUNDABLE deposit. Tight cow.

OP posts:
SoleBizzz · 09/08/2016 22:34

I'd report her for racism

Lorelei76 · 09/08/2016 22:36

they are refundable?! Wow. I understand if she really doesn't have the £15 spare but if that was the case, she'd have told you, I imagine, rather than blither on about how you should happily let her in...

Why does she not buzz her own flat if someone is in there? Confused.com.
