To be unimpressed with schools idea for forgetting P.E kit.

My DS who is 9 didnt have his P.E kit in school Monday as I forgot it, not thinking it a problem though as they don't do P.E on Mondays.

However, this Monday, they decided to do sports day practice and as DS didn't have his P.E kit (he lost it in school the week before half term but that's another story, but it must be in school somewhere!) they told him to borrow another boys.

The other boy was on holiday and has been fairly good friends with DS but they are very different builds, DS being stocky and the other boy slim. But I don't think it's ok for the school to tell him to borrow someone else's kit. I wouldn't want someone else borrowing DS's kit, possibly damaging it or whatever.

wouldn't bother me unless it was humiliating for your boy to not fit into slimmer boys kit. But teachers prob didn't consider this.

Especially if this is the first time this happened - they could have just made him sit there while the others do P.E. I think that is standard practice, as I recall "I forgot it at home" was a popular excuse for the less sportsy kids.

Our school has a A3 poster on each door with names of kids who forgot their kit.

This could have been me! We forgot the PE kit on the first day back after half term too! And I wondered if they were planning on doing sports day practice as it wasn't their usual PE day.
They didn't so all was well but - our school have a 'bank' of kit that can be used in such situations, they then ask for it to be washed and returned ASAP and they also send a note home making you feel like the worst parent alive for having forgotten!

Glassofwine that's a good idea on the schools behalf. Much better than having to wear manky spare kit or sit out.

I don't think they should use lost property as then when the parent or child goes to look for their lost stuff it won't be there.

Not ideal but the simplest workaround when no doubt trying to shoe-horn pe into a busy day. Who's to say after finding an available adult (if there is one) to go thro the lost property box, that anything would fit? Whole class waiting for this to happen if they're off down the field? Or what if they only get a 45 min slot in the hall? Time is precious. Make sure he has a kit.

Then please supply schools with banks of kits and shoes in varying sizes. Tesco are quite good value.
Please wash these on a per use basis on behalf of the school.

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I would hold the school responsible if the kit was damaged and demand they replace it but otherwise - I don't have a problem.

In my DD class, the PE kit is only washed once a HT (they are all 5 and not particularly sweaty), so I wouldn't notice anyway. If they were older, I would expect it washed by the school so my DD didn't end up in someone else's sweat! lovely image...

All kids here are reminded to have people kit in school at all times as they have sports days and sometimes ad hock rounders or cricket -

Your son borrowed a kit - I hope the friend is kinder than you are for lending their stuff and hope DS brought it home for you to wash and iron as a very greatful thank you?

Taking someone elses kit really doesn't sound like a good option.

Do the pupils have to have a pe kit available all week? I thought you send your children with kit on the pe day - is that not how it works now?
