Beach-ready 'down there'

mumoseven · 01/06/2016 12:38

Did I really just see an advert for some razor, where a woman was coyly telling a story about getting naked at a BBQ and was worried about being BEACH READY DOWN THERE?
WTF?

LucyBabs I've never been told I should be hair free, it's just my personal preference.
Maybe you haven't been told this by another actual person, but the message is all around us - and it's not always subtle (as in...'Are you BEACH READY?')

Dozer · 03/06/2016 14:11

It's odd when people claim it's "my personal choice", eg because it's "cleaner" or "more comfortable" and don't wonder why so few boys/men make the same choice.

There are costs (time and money), discomfort and even health risks.

Iggi999 · 03/06/2016 15:15

Dozer, it's like the phenomenon that many women have unpleasant sounding, tricky to spell surnames that they are grateful to whisk off on marriage, yet only a tiny percentage of men have similarly annoying names.

BartholinsSister · 03/06/2016 17:26

Some men shave their faces, for similar reasons.

VestalVirgin · 03/06/2016 17:39

Some men shave their faces, for similar reasons.

Men shave their faces for similar reasons that women shave their pubic hair for?

But then, why don't (most) men shave their pubic hair?

I shave my face. It's reasonably safe to do so, and the stubble there doesn't chafe.

Completely different for pubic hair. The stubble is hell, having infected cuts covered by underwear, thus healing slowly ... just not the same.

Voted! Grin

Still 76%

Petal40 · 03/06/2016 19:25

All these comments make for interesting reading,my mind is mulling things over, for example, why is there no razors aimed at a mans testicles or the surrounding area?does he not need to be beach body ready too?....I've never heard of a man shaving pubic hair....do they? If not why not?....why do I do it?? I genuinely don't know,I just always have....it's not even like anyone sees it,husband if he's not in the dog house may,but that's it...

BringMeTea · 03/06/2016 19:41

Loving your work people!!

MrsNutella · 03/06/2016 21:09

I have been voting a lot and I asked DH if he has a preference. He does, he likes a clean shave, but only underneath and only if I want to. If I don't he doesn't care at all. But he did say that he tries to keep himself trim for me too he would never ask me to shave or trim.

But DH does shave his armpits. I don't really know why, he just does and it is common here in Germany. DH is German and covered in hair and I'm British. It's interesting considering the stereotypes Grin

sleepyhead · 03/06/2016 22:58

Actually, I think the whole hair-removal nonsense is becoming so universal that men (younger men anyway) are being influenced to some extent.

I saw recently and realised that I couldn't remember the last time I saw underarm hair on tv from either sex.

Gubbin · 03/06/2016 23:29

Couldn't believe this ad hasn't been banned since last year and was on really early the other day so my 9 year old daughter saw it! Luckily she didn't ask about it but buggered if I want to have this conversation with her at this age! It's really properly offensive!

MadameDePomPom · 03/06/2016 23:31

I've never heard of a man shaving pubic hair....do they?

These days they most certainly do! At least a significant number of the ones I've met.

Can't say it's a look I fine very attractive.

katand2kits · 04/06/2016 00:24

My husband has only done it the once, the night before he had a vasectomy, and he just used a razor with a beard trimmer on it, he did not require some special pubic shaving kit.

JaneJeffer · 04/06/2016 00:29

Yes they do, it's called manscaping.

fatmomma99 · 04/06/2016 01:51

(sorry, sorry, sorry, not RTT, but it's nearly 2am, and i need to go to bed) but just to say after reading page 1 (and I will read the rest tomorrow, I promise!) that there was a thread recently about was it ok to be on your period when you are waxed DOWN THERE and I posted suggesting that ladies just be the ladies they are and not the children they used to be and got several biscuits.

So page 1 of this thread is VERY reassuring to me and my bushy pubes!

How embarrassing if this post has moved on after page 1 to the trimmed ladies of MN!

HemlockStarglimmer · 04/06/2016 07:50

Still at 76%. But that is still far and away more than any other option on the poll. Star Star Star Star Star

littlejeopardy · 04/06/2016 08:02

Late to the thread, but this advert has angered me every time I see it. Voted on the poll and I love your work ladies.

DH and I both trim down there occasionally. For me, I just don't want hair noticeably peaking out of my bikini, and more importantly, a trim can give DH easier access for oral sex (tmi?)

LurcioAgain · 04/06/2016 08:21

Vote early, vote often! Have just done my bit.

(NB, the more we try to fix the poll - and presumably the folks at Wilkinson Sword have the intern getting RSI trying to do the same thing - the smaller a percentage difference 10 clicks on their website makes, so it doesn't surprise me that the poll now seems stalled on 70%)

LurcioAgain · 04/06/2016 08:24

Sorry 76% - seem to be unable to ty[e this morning.

wheelies · 04/06/2016 09:14

Anyone else think it strange that the recent fashion for men is to have beards came about as a backlash to the fashion for women to remove their pubic hair. It's like nature rebelling.

ClaudetteWyms · 04/06/2016 21:39

I love this thread, this is why I love MN! I have voted in that stupid poll a few times, it's all complete crap - most women like a full bush Wilkinson Sword, so fuck right off with your stupid offensive adverts!

And I'm really shocked to hear men have started shaving their armpits - when did that happen? I have a bit of a thing for men's fluffy armpits

Chippednailvarnishing · 04/06/2016 21:43

It's down to 75%, come on MN get voting...

LurcioAgain · 04/06/2016 21:59

" I have a bit of a thing for men's fluffy armpits"

Thank goodness it's not just me. And I love a moderately hairy chest to snuggle up to.
