Beach-ready 'down there'

mumoseven · 01/06/2016 12:38

Did I really just see an advert for some razor, where a woman was coyly telling a story about getting naked at a BBQ and was worried about being BEACH READY DOWN THERE?
WTF?

Total sexist bullshit. Where's the equivalent men's ad in blue?

It's not "free choice" to remove body hair. There is social disapproval for not doing so. many more women, especially younger women, now remove pubic hair since, for example, online porn came in: they didn't just all decide to do so in a vacuum.

NeedACleverNN · 02/06/2016 21:37

petal if that's how you want your body that's your prerogative. Beach ready shouldn't have to mean plucked naked like a chicken. It should mean however you want your body to look like. Natural, pink, blue, glittery, styled like a fish or bald.

JaneJeffer · 02/06/2016 21:41

Wow, I just watched the ad, it's terrible! Hadn't seen it on telly. Off to vote again Smile

Petal40 · 02/06/2016 21:42

So twice a week,3 times at a push I shave the lot off.under arms legs, and noodle, but the stuff grows back dead fast, so my question is,you ladies with a full bush, just how long does it grow to?????and if it stops growing how does it know when to stop...no one wants fanny fur down to yr knees

NeedACleverNN · 02/06/2016 21:43

I trim mine if it gets irritating but actually I've never shaved it off. It never gets that long and it certainly wouldn't reach my knees.

Fink · 02/06/2016 21:45

Thanks for the link. I note that whichever style of pubes you vote for, you still end up with two massive chunks of pube further down the leg at uneven points (cunningly disguised as leaves). I think that should actually be the next fashion thing. Grin

AuntieStella · 02/06/2016 21:46

"just how long does it grow to????? and if it stops growing how does it know when to stop...no one wants fanny fur down to yr knees"

It knows when to stop in the same way that your eyebrows and eyelashes know when to stop.

It's fine for an individual to decide he/she wants to depilate round their pubis. It's not fine to tell those who don't want to that it's 'unsightly' (even if you are a razor-making company)

Petal40 · 02/06/2016 21:47

needaclevernn,I've always always got rid of the stuff,I'm surprised mine does still grow back.youd of thought it would of got the message by now...as for beach body ready, sadly I'm more beach ball, than beach ready but sssshhhh don't tell anyone x

Like I said petal you want to remove your hair that is your choice. I don't yet I'm the one that has to hide to not receive comments or made to feel weird.

Beach body should be for everyone. Not just the hairless

littleshirleybeans · 02/06/2016 21:57

Fur-free here Grin
I prefer it, I feel cleaner. It hurts like holy hell to get it all waxed but to me, it's worth it.
I shave my legs and underarms a few times a week as well.
I just see it as something I do, like brushing my teeth.
I do it for myself as its MY preference.
But each to their own! I haven't seen the advert but I know it would annoy me!
And I'm somebody who would spend time scrubbing/waxing/shaving/tanning/toenail painting etc before leaving the house going on holiday Grin
But that's just me. I like to feel well-groomed and I wear make up all the time. I wear eyeliner and mascara 24/7.
But each to their own!
If dh or anyone made a comment or told me to wax etc, they'd get another think comingWink
(Ok I know that didn't actually make sense but it bought it was funny anyway Grin)

Petal40 · 02/06/2016 21:57

It's how companies sell stuff, make you feel bad about yourself so you think you need their product....it's all bollocks..

thatsthewayitgoes · 02/06/2016 21:57

79%! Heads will roll in the marketing department tomorrow at wilkinson sword....!

SauvignonBlanche · 02/06/2016 22:00

Oh no, it's gone down to 78% !!

PlymouthMaid1 · 02/06/2016 22:10

And even my five more votes haven't upped it.

Akire · 02/06/2016 22:15

It's odd because surely everyone buys razers for legs or armpits and knicker line. Fully logical reasons to buy reason for. Why just focus on using it for your bits?

Chippednailvarnishing · 02/06/2016 22:19

Just voted and it's gone down to 77%

BartholinsSister · 02/06/2016 22:27

When your company is called Wilkinson Sword, you wouldn't want 'heads to roll'.

Sushi6 · 02/06/2016 22:39

As if the advert isn't annoying enough, that bloody woman's voice really grates! Oh and at 6 months pregnant I can't see if I'm 'beach ready' and that's good enough for me! 😆

Iggi999 · 02/06/2016 23:04

So Petal if you really have to ask whether pubic hair stops growing before it reaches your knees, does that mean you never actually had any yourself, did you start shaving as soon as your hair started growing?

Iggi999 · 02/06/2016 23:05

75% I think a backlash has begun!

OnceThereWasThisGirlWho · 02/06/2016 23:11

Can't find the ad anywhere! Also voting though...

Although I'm all for "au natural" I wouldn't mind a quick word with God (or with the process of evolution Wink) to explain perhaps some of us don't need quite so much down there. Quite uncomfortable without giving it a once-over with the old sit on top lawnmover every month. Annoying.

LemonRedwood · 02/06/2016 23:14

I just voted twenty a few more times. Sticking at 75%

Arseface · 02/06/2016 23:24

I'm congenitally both fluffy and lazy. I also have dark hair and pale(ish) skin.
The only times I've been called up on this are by boys at school in my teens and when giving birth to dcs 3&4 (twins) at 39 by bloody midwives!

Petal40 · 02/06/2016 23:24

Iggy999,ive just always shaved it off.automactially like anyone shaves their legs...I've never given it a second thought till today....someone said in a past post that all this shaving it off was down to porn.....I've only ever seen a tiny bit of debi does Dallas ,and I'm sure she had a bush..
